Admiring book covers and bookmarks, shared by you!

Welcome to INSIDE AND OUT. This feature includes two of my absolute favorite book-related things: bookmarks (inside) and book covers (out)! I’ve invited guest posters to share their favorite book covers and bookmarks here on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Sign-ups are always open (see bottom of post)! Check out past posts here.

Tell me a little about yourself: I’m Alexa, 26, living in New York. I was born in the US, moved back to the Philippines and lived there for 12 years, and then finally returned to the US in 2010. I got married to my husband in 2013, and he was able to join me in the US in late 2014. I’m constantly have my nose stuck in a book, particularly because I spend so much time commuting! I love writing stories, organizing (my books, my house, my clothes, anything really), traveling (to places I’ve never been and places I’ve seen before) and blogging (because it’s so fun)!

Talk about your blog (what you blog about/kinds of books, features, etc.):   I’m an obsessive reader, always in search of my next bookish adventure, and I like sharing my thoughts on what I’ve read on the blog! It is my safe place to share my opinions, concoct fun events and features and even get personal occasionally. I mostly talk about YA novels, but I do on occasion feature adult and MG novels too! I also have a couple of features that I enjoy – Tunes and Tales, {Bookish} Style Files, Books in Real Life, to name a few.

Favorite genre: My two most read genres are fantasy and contemporary! But I do dabble in a little bit of science fiction, dystopia, and paranormal when the mood strikes me.

Three books you recommend most often and why:

  • Incarnate by Jodi Meadows – I’ve been a huge fan of Jodi and her debut series since I first picked up an ARC in 2012. It’s a great mix of science fiction/fantasy, and it also has interesting themes of life and reincarnation. I always feel like lots of people would enjoy this (and I’ve been proven right countless times!)
  • Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – I’m sure this surprises no one, as I’m a very vocal supporter of Sarah’s. Her debut novel is an excellent read for fantasy readers, and the series just continues to get better with every book. If you want a new fantasy series to love or if you’re a new fantasy reader, this is an excellent book to pick up.
  • Eon by Alison Goodman – This novel, and its companion, is amazing! It’s got dragons. It’s got a kickass main character, who is one of my favorite heroines ever. It’s got excellent integration of Asian culture. And it’s a really, really great story!

Anything else to share? Personal plug for something coming up? Just that I love your blog, and everyone should be following it, if they aren’t already. As for events coming up, I have two book-centered events happening in January (though you’ll have to wait till then to find out the details). The Flights of Fantasy Reading Challenge will be happening once again, and I also have the Book Blogger Love-a-Thon happening in February!

What book do we have here?  Madly by Amy Alward

Have you read it yet? If so, how was it?  I’m only starting it this week, but I’m quite excited! I honestly have been wanting to read this one ever since I first heard of it, so I’m looking forward to finally getting to discover this story for myself.

What makes this cover a favorite?  Before I snagged a copy of my own, I always found my eyes drawn to the lovely colors of this cover! I love the suggestion of potions, and I love the seemingly hand illustrated logo/symbol that’s imposed on top of it.

What kind/style of covers do you usually pine over (script fonts, bright colors, realistic, etc.)? I love brightly colored covers, I love illustrated covers and I love covers with excellent typography. I’m not so keen on covers with photographs of real people on them, but there are certainly exceptions to that rule.

What bookmark did you chose?  I’m obsessed with Happy Hello Art bookmarks. I was half-tempted to show you a photo of my full collection, but I decided to just show you Captain America in honor of the newly released Civil War promotion posters and teaser trailer.

What makes this one special to you? Captain America is my favorite of all the Avengers, and I can’t wait for Civil War! I love that these bookmarks are a subtle, adorable way to celebrate my fandom (in all different areas of entertainment).

Where’s it from?  I already mentioned it, but Happy Hello Art. It’s an awesome Etsy store for cute magnetic bookmarks, and I’m constantly watching for new additions that I must add to my collection.

What kind of bookmarks do you prefer (paper, magnetic, quotes, etc.)?  I clearly have a preference for bookmarks that are magnetic and adorable, like these. But I also like metal bookmarks! There’s something great about their solidity. And my friend Danica (who I’m still coaxing to set up an Etsy shop) does great hand-lettered/illustrated bookmarks that I’m also obsessed with.

Thanks so much for joining Inside & Out, Alexa! I’ve also been pining over this book cover; I hope the inside is just as great as the outside!

Join in the fun!

Sign-ups are temporarily CLOSED. I want to work through the remaining people who have already signed up and then take a bit of a hiatus towards the middle of 2016. Hope you understand! Stay tuned for when sign-ups re-open for later next year.
