TTTimageTop Books I’m Looking Forward to for the 1st Half of 2017

Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review.

headerThese are some of my favorite TTT prompts because I remind myself which books are actually – FINALLY – coming out in the first half of the year. I’m good about adding books on Goodreads if I’m even somewhat interested, because I don’t want to forget about them, but even then… I tend to forget about them until they come out. Regardless! Here are ten eighteen books I’m excited about for the first half of 2017, minus any ARCs I already have. They all have release dates between January 1st and June 30th.

Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han | April

I LOVE THESE SO MUCH. This family is my favorite. I was so happy when Jenny Han announced an unexpected third book in this series because the ending of PSISLY was a bit open-ended. I was generally satisfied with it but I also couldn’t be happier there’s another installment. GIMME. Now.

Literally by Lucy Keating | April

One of my favorite movies is Stranger Than Fiction, where a man (Will Ferrell) discovers that there’s a woman narrating his life and writing it as a novel. He tries to break free from the story and live normally while trying to find the woman writing it. This book is like a YA version of that movie and it makes me so happy.

The Adjustment by Suzanne Young | April

You could look at all the books in this series – both prequels and sequels – and think the author is just pushing it. But believe me… you’d be totally wrong. Each book in this series, regardless of where it falls in the order, has been fantastic. The world is growing more and more in each book without making me feel burned out. Needless to say, I really can’t wait for this installment!

Once and For All by Sarah Dessen | June

Obviously a new Sarah Dessen book is worthy of this list! I was nervous when she released Saint Anything and said she may not write again. (Seriously the worst thing to hear from her!) I absolutely love the wedding/event-planning plot of this book and the cover is SO CUTE. I’m ready for this new Dessen for sure.

Windwitch by Susan Dennard | January

I really enjoyed Truthwitch, even though my love for it faded a little over time. I have to figure out a way to reread (maybe audiobook) or recap the first book before starting the second because it’s totally out of my head now. I have this one preordered so hopefully I’ll get to it sooner rather than later in 2017.

Wires and Nerve by Marissa Meyer | January

Iko is easily my favorite secondary character in The Lunar Chronicles and reading about her in the form of a graphic novel sounds PERFECT. I can see her story being so great in that medium. I really should preorder this one too, now that I’m thinking about it… And I also still need that coloring book…

By Your Side by Kasie West | January

I’m bummed to see a lot of early mixed reviews for this one. Many are saying this is their least favorite Kasie West book. As you know, she’s one of my all-time favorite authors… so I’m still letting myself get excited for this one! I usually leave one of her books waiting on my TBR so I always have it to read when the mood strikes, so I’m more likely to read PS I Like You before this one actually.

The Young Wives Club by Julie Pennell | February

First of all this cover really just makes me want to eat cake and/or go to a wedding. Good thing I’ll have about a million to attend over the next two or three years. *cough* Anyways, this is an adult fiction book that made it onto my radar recently. The story is about a few young wives who come together to get through whatever obstacles they’re facing, especially in regards to romance and ~life happenings.~

The Other F-Word by Natasha Friend | March

I saw The Kids Are All Right a few years ago and really enjoyed the premise. Kids who were born with the help of a sperm donor decide to track down their biological father – both in that movie and this book! I love it. Clearly 2017 is the year of moves I liked being turned into YA stories, eh?

Secrets of a Reluctant Princess by Casey Griffin | March

Yeah I can’t lie, the sparkly cover caught my attention first! I’ve always enjoyed the dramatic lives of rich kids in rich towns (Beverly Hills!) doing rich things. This premise sounds fun because the main character is basically faking the beauty and the popularity until she falls for a nerd. I hope this one’s good!

Pretty Fierce by Kieran Scott | April

I love me a new Kieran Scott/Kate Brian book. This got added right away without even reading the synopsis. KS has been breaking out of the “norm” a little bit, with her recent foray into the mystery-horror-thriller genre(s). This book falls into that lump of a category I just created. I love that the MC is the daughter of assassins, on the run!

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett | April

This is another that was added to my TBR without thinking about the synopsis. I loved Jenn Bennett’s debut so much and was really eager for her sophomore novel, whatever form that may take. To top that feeling off, the book actually sounds phenomenal. A girl moves into the town of her online crush and doesn’t tell him? Sure, sounds like some drama later on for lying… but I’m sure the tension will be high.

Royce Rolls by Margaret Stohl | April

This is a new one to my TBR but I couldn’t resist the reality show premise. Again, I have a fascination with the rich/famous people in these books, so it was inevitable okay? It obviously seems like a spoof on the Kardashians and what would happen if their show was cancelled, they lost their money, and the family fell apart. I’m down to give it a try for sure! Plus the cute coverrrrr, come on.

Fireworks by Katie Cotugno | April

I’ve only read one book in Katie Cotugno’s backlist but it was a really powerful one. This book sounds more up my alley than her debut does, so I have a feeling I’ll be reading it quickly! I love the 90s and boy bands more than most music (seriously I listen to NSYNC every day still), so I’m sure this will be perfection.

Say No to the Bro by Kat Helgeson | May

Okay so obviously the idea of auctioning females off for any reason sounds pretty terrible, but it does kind of sound like the makings of an interesting book! Anything surrounding prom dates and people competing in challenges makes me pretty excited to read. We’ll see how it fares. 😉

Windfall by Jennifer E. Smith | May

This one sounds so good. I absolutely love that premise (so obviously I’m alsooo very glad that my favorite author, Kasie West, has a book coming out with a similar lottery-related plot!). The cover is also much cuter than her other books too which is obviously really important just a bonus for me.

The Unlikelies by Carrie Firestone | June

I still have her debut sitting on my shelf (whoops) but I think this one sounds super cute too! I heard mixed things about the humor in her first book but from what I heard it sounds like my sense of humor, so we’ll see haha. In any case, I love any book with elements similar to The Breakfast Club so we’ll see where this one lands!

Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index by Julie Israel | June

Yes this has been on a few lists for me in the past because I loved the synopsis so much before there was even a book cover, and then I talked about the book again when the cover art appeared… because COME ON it’s so cool! I think this may be one of the books I’m most looking forward to off of this list.

  1. I’m curious about The Adjustment as I’ve never read that series but I kinda want to. Fireworks looks good ? and I love the cover of Windfall. Nice list.

  2. I just read P.S. I Like You and it was FANTASTIC!! It was my first Kasie West book. I feel like the storyline is cute but I don’t see much of a plot if they’re just stuck in a library? Still excited for this book nonetheless! As well as Windfall and Literally – i loved Dreamology! Adding some from your list to my tbr!

  3. Thank you for the recommendations! I just pulled a bunch of fantasy recs off Cait’s blog, and yours is the one to go to for contemporary clearly 😀 I love the sound of Alex, Approximately and Literally (I’m going to have to look up that Will Ferrell film too, reminds me of the Truman Show).
