The Bookmark Lit Bulletin was created to wrap up each month and prepare for the next. I share my life happenings, book haul, books I read and reviewed, posts I shared, challenge updates, and more from the previous month. I also let you know what may be coming up on the blog in the coming month. You can read past bulletins here and learn more about the feature here.

Special things in this month’s bulletin:

(Harry Potter series, John Green’s books, a few by Sarah Dessen, etc.)

TBR Pile Challenge – Exceeded

Goal: Read one “backlist” book per month, totalling 12 books.

Goal: Reach the “my precious” level of audiobook listening (35 or more books).

(Fairytale) Retelling Challenge – Completed

Goal: Reach the “big bad wolf” level by reading 10-15 retellings and/or fairy tales.

I knew that this goal would be manageable because I planned to read all of the Lunar Chronicles books this year, but it was still a bit close. Happy to finish though!

  1. Princess of Thorns – Stacey Jay
  2. A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J. Maas
  3. Between the Lines – Jodi Picoult
  4. Ella Enchanted – Gail Carson Levine
  5. Stardust – Neil Gaiman
  6. Mirrored – Alex Flinn
  7. Cinder – Marissa Meyer
  8. Scarlet – Marissa Meyer
  9. Cress – Marissa Meyer
  10. Winter – Marissa Meyer
  11. The Isle of the Lost – Melissa de la Cruz
  12. Penny Dora 1 – Michael Stock
  13. Fairest – Marissa Meyer
Flights of Fantasy Challenge – Exceeded

Goal: Read 20 fantasy books in 2015.

I included the Lunar Chronicles books because they have fantasy elements, but they are really sci-fi retellings at their core. Even if I didn’t include them, I would have met my goal! Fantasy was kind of subjective for me with this one.

  1. Siege and Storm – Leigh Bardugo
  2. HP Sorcerer’s Stone – JK Rowling
  3. HP Chamber Secrets – JK Rowling
  4. Princess of Thorns – Stacey Jay
  5. The Darkest Part of the Forest – Holly Black

  15. Magonia – Maria Dahvana Headley
  16. Cinder – Marissa Meyer
  17. HP Half-Blood Prince – JK Rowling
  18. Scarlet – Marissa Meyer
  19. Truthwitch – Susan Dennard
  20. Cress – Marissa Meyer
  21. Six of Crows – Leigh Bardugo
  22. Winter – Marissa Meyer

Secret Sister Project

dec ssAs usual, my Secret Sister killed it. This was a super cute Christmassy package! That gingerbread-patterned fabric across the bottom is an apron that she made herself! (HOW DO YOU DO IT?!) She included a souvenir bookmark from Ireland, which was just too cool. I got a Christmas countdown mug with my favorite hot chocolate mix. She also included candy and a cookie cutter shaped like a stocking. I’m really excited for the books she sent; they’ve been on my wishlist for a long time: Where’d You Go, Bernadette and Being Sloane Jacobs. There was also nail polish, washi tape, washi tape bookmarks (!!!), and excellent socks! Amazing as always.

Broke & Bookish Secret Santa

santa decOh man this was such a great package! My Secret Santa was KATIE from The Book Sphere and she did such a great job. I got a Panthers mug and SO many hot chocolate supplies, including peppermint stir sticks  and marshmallow bits to shake in. She also gave socks (excellent and comfy AF) and chocolate. Three books from my wishlist were also included: The Mediator, Unremembered, and Daughter of Smoke and BoneSo generous and awesome!

real life

2015-12-04 23.18.09December was another busy month for us. We finishing putting up Christmas decorations and went out to get our Christmas tree. The second week of the month featured a very sad funeral for a close family friend. He was only a few years older than me 2015-12-07 20.56.32and it just hit me harder than expected. Amidst all of that, my dad had a company Christmas party to attend with my stepmom. I “watched” my sister that night for them because she doesn’t like being home alone at night, even though she’s 14 years old. Chris and I took my sister to the Lego store and out for dinner that night, then her and I watched The Descendents. She made me read the book so obviously I had to watch the movie, which technically comes after the book chronologically. We had our company holiday lunch the following week, which was fairly fun. The food was decent and it was nice to leave the office for a few hours. We headed to Providence for my friend’s birthday on the 19th, and that was so much fun. We all have kind of reached the point where we would rather spend time together playing games and sleeping over, than going out to the bar to celebrate. THEN THERE WAS2015-12-19 22.21.07 CHRISTMAS WEEK! My boss decided to take my coworker and I out for lunch because we literally had no work to do in the few days before Christmas. Christmas Eve involved going to Chris’s parents’ house for a few hours, then my aunt’s house. It was fun to see our families, exchange gifts, and eat food. Chris’s sister had to work on Christmas day so w2015-12-25 13.03.13-1e got lucky and only had two houses to visit that day. We ended up sleeping late, being lazy, exchanging gifts with each other, and then going to my Nana’s house for Christmas. We had some food and opened presents with my mom’s side of the family. Afterwards, we went to my  Dad’s house for presents. We really got spoiled this year! The week following Christmas was pretty busy too. We decided to2015-12-28 15.09.16 take a day off and go to New York City for the day, but we regretted that choice! It was crowded, we did almost NOTHING we wanted to do, and we got home late. Overall, it was a lame day that we wish we didn’t do. The next night, we went to a Harlem Globetrotters game! It was so fun; Chris had never seen them before. For New Years, we went to my friend’s house to hang out, eat food, and watch the ball drop. We kept it simple again!

THIS SHOW MAN. Chris has been on a major Marvel kick lately (and that’s trickled down to me, of course). We decided to start Jessica Jones after seeing sooo many people talk about it. It’s SO GOOD. We binged quite a few episodes in a row because we really wanted something that was genuinely binge-worthy. We’ve been trying to pace ourselves but it’s hard.

aziz ansari master of none myposts i hope aziz wins an emmy for this role

I love Aziz Ansari and heard even more wonderful things about Master of None. We’ve only watched the first couple of episodes because we really want to savor this one. It’s so funny, as expected. I can’t wait to keep going.

christmas s1 elf santa claus the santa clause

We didn’t watch as many holiday movies as I expected this year, but we did hit all of the basics. My favorite of all is The Santa Clause. It was fantastic as always. I also watched A Christmas Story for the first time in my life (!!!) this year and it was way better than I thought. Some other holiday movies we watched: The Year Without a Santa Claus, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Elf, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.chall

next month in my lifeI’m not a huge fan of resolutions because time is made-up. Days and years and minutes help us keep track of things, but I think they’re too arbitrary to base things on. The “new year” doesn’t signify much for me. I will usually make goals for the year and use it as a general idea of timing, but I don’t subscribe to a lot of the same thoughts on it all. Anyways, I plan to R-E-L-A-X in January. I’m guessing we’ll get plenty of snow, which usually sucks. As of right now, we have literally zero plans this month. Thank you world.on the blogYou’ll see the usual Top Ten Tuesdays on here, as well as two new faces for Inside & Out. I kicked off the month with my Statistics Survey and obviously this lovely BL Bulletin is happening right now, including year-end wrapping up. I have TWO wonderful posts in my Organization Series coming up – Planners (how I use them now) and Reading Notebook(s). I’m on a blog tour for The Imposter Queen and will be featuring a Cover Colors post for it! I’m honestly thrilled with how it came out, so I hope you all enjoy it! The month has a lot of reviews because I wanted to TRY to start fairly fresh for the year… didn’t really happen though. I may have a Five on Friday, but it depends on how fun my life is for the first half of the month 😉 If not, it’ll be a Currently post or Reading Recap.

  1. WOW!! What a year you’ve had, lady!! So much awesomeness!! I’m really impressed with how well you did on your challenges. Some day I’ll learn how to do charts like that to show statistics. I stare at them adoringly every year when other bloggers use them, but I’m just totally clueless on how to (1) make the charts, and (2) find the criteria to enter into it. 🙁 Have a wonderful weekend! ♥
