Make Me Read It | Readathon Sign-Up and Poll

Posted June 11, 2016 / Book Challenges, Features / 17 Comments

Last year’s Make Me Read It Readathon was actually quite successful for me! It pushed me to read a number of books that I kept putting off for one reason or another. I will be including a few from last year’s poll, some now-published ARCs I have sitting around still, and a few from my Must Read in 2016 Challenge.

Hosted by Ely @ Tea & Titles and Val @ The Innocent Smiley /// July 9th through 16th

Look at the books you own, either physical, e-book or ones you’ve borrowed from the library and pick out a few you really want to read, or feel like you should read. It’s up to you how many you pick, personally I’d pick a few more than you expect to be able to read in a week. Example: if you think you’ll only read two, pick out five books or if you think you can read seven, pick out ten.

Make a list of these books on your blog, or make a video, or a Goodreads shelf or post a picture on Instagram—whatever is easiest for you. Then get friends, other bloggers/booktubers etc. to vote on which books you HAVE to read.

When the readathon comes along, you read the books in the order of most votes. For example, if one book gets 10 votes—you read that first, then the one that got 7 and so on. If there’s a tie, then it’s your preference. The goal is to read as many as possible.

Now that you know the deal, here’s the fun part! You get to vote on which books I’ll be reading. Since it’s a week long, I’ll narrow the list down to the top 10ish options, depending on if there are any ties. Usually I can read around that many books per week but I have no idea what my plans are like that week and how much reading time I’ll actually have. You’ll vote on the following books and we’ll go from there!

options for poll

Leftover from last year’s readathon (that I still haven’t read)

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
The Fill-In Boyfriend
by Kasie West
Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

Published ARCs I Should Read

Firewalker by Josephine Angelini
The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald
The Last Boy and Girl in the World by Siobhan Vivian
The Smell of Other People’s Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock
Kill the Boy Band by Goldy Moldavsky

Books for my Must Read in 2016 challenge

Lola Carlyle’s 12-Step Romance by Danielle Younge-Ullman
Before I Go by Colleen Oakley
Things I Can’t Explain by Mitchell Kriegman
This is Your Afterlife by Vanessa Barneveld
It’s Not Me It’s You by Mhairi McFarlane
Girl Before a Mirror by Liza Palmer

Help me out and make me read it!

No idea how many I’ll actually read, but the number of votes for each book helps me narrow my list down from 15 to 10, and then select my reading order. Any ties will still be counted and then I get to choose which of the two will be read in whatever order.

What books should I read? Make me read it!

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West

Firewalker by Josephine Angelini

  1. I love this! Good luck with your challenge! I may have to participate. I was just thinking I need to a do a readathon again soon since I failed at the last Bout of Books. I also love the voting aspect of this challenge. 😀

  2. Thank you for participating again Lauren!! Really glad that last year’s readathon went well! 🙂

So, I voted for Aristotle & Dante because I LOVED that book to death when I first read it. Also it’s a very quick read and easy to get through. There’s just something lyrical about the writing, and it pulls you right into the story. OH you must read Smelly Houses–err I mean The Smell of Other People’s Houses! And This Shattered World!

  3. This sounds like a fun concept for a readathon! I’m not sure yet if I’m going to be able to join in BUT I’m definitely considering it. I totally voted for you to read Girl Before a Mirror (which was absolutely lovely) and This Shattered World (because that series is A+)!!
