Seriously, How Have I Not Read This Yet?

A lot of books end up on my “jazzed up for this” shelf on Goodreads. I made a whole 2015 challenge about the books I MUST read because I was previously so excited for them. So why do I never read them?! This happens way way way too often. Here are some of the books I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t read even though I’ve been ~so excited~ about them for years.

Everything Leads to You The Catastrophic History of You and Me The Art of Lainey (The Art of Lainey, #1)

Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour | This was one of those books I added to my TBR riiiiight before I started blogging. I loved the cover and the Hollywood-centered premise.

The Catastrophic History of You & Me by Jess Rothenberg | I love books where people are stuck in between life and death, in that kind of ghost-y afterlife watching their friends and family move on.

The Art of Lainey by Paula Stokes | This synopsis has me written all over it, but for some reason I haven’t opened it up yet. I even own this book like an asshole, as usual.

17 First Kisses Before I Go My Heart and Other Black Holes

17 First Kisses by Rachael Allen | I loooooved the other Rachael Allen book I read and have had this one sitting around for quite some time. I don’t have excuses because this seems perfect for me.

Before I Go by Colleen Oakley | Much like the previous one, I read another Colleen Oakley first. BEFORE I GO has been on my shelf for years and the concept sounds great, but I’m not prepared for the sads.

My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga | I was put off by some of the darker contemporaries in the past year or two, so this one has gotten pushed off a little.

Girl Before a Mirror The Choices We Make The Last Boy and Girl in the World

Girl Before a Mirror by Liza Palmer | I fucking loved the first Liza Palmer I read, so I’ve been Very Nervous to read another book by her… no matter how much I love that cover.

The Choices We Make by Karma Brown | Another instance where the first book I read was perfection and I just haven’t gotten to the next. I even requested it from the library and it just SAT THERE.

The Last Boy and Girl in the World by Siobhan Vivian | I was obsessed with the concept and cover for this one, but meh reviews have since turned me off. I still want to read it though.

My Life with the Walter Boys Amy & Roger's Epic Detour Whatever Life Throws at You

My Life with the Walter Boys by Ali Novak | My sister bugs me about this one all the time. I think I own this too? I have no idea anymore. The summary = read-bait for Lauren. Get going.

Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson | I love Morgan Matson and truly have no reason for not reading this yet. AND it involves a road trip. Someone come punch me.

Whatever Life Throws at You by Julie Cross | I know I have this one on my Kindle, just sitting. I think it involves baseball too? I love sporty romances! Again, someone kick me into gear.

  1. I have a list liek this too!! I have to say you have some gems on there – The Choices We Make and Amy & Roger. I also have Everything Leads to You and Before I Go on my need to get to list. Hope you get to them!!!

  2. I joined a backlist reading challenge this year, and that has really helped me get to older titles that I’ve wanted to read. I’m learning to mix in stuff that’s been on my TBR for awhile with newer titles, and it’s really helped in clearing out my TBR.

  3. I haven’t even heard of most of these books. Hmm. I did read Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour – twice! It’s pretty amazing. This happens to me too though. I am so excited for books, and then I get distracted by other, most often newer, books. There are too many books in the world! Sometimes I’m hesitant to read books I’m super excited about because what if I’m disappointed? Ya know?

  4. I love this idea for a post! Omg, you have to read Everything Leads to You– it’s one of my favorite contemporaries (honestly, I’m due for a reread of that one). Amy & Rodger is probably my least favorite Matson book, but, like, it’s still fantastic. I think you would really enjoy Whatever Life Throws at You! I read it a few summers ago (after also having it sit on my Kindle for ages, haha), and it was cute. I neeeed to read a Rachael Allen book! She’s local to me, and I see her at literally every book event in Atlanta, but I’m so ashamed I haven’t read any of her books yet.

  5. Everything Leads to You and 17 First Kisses are also some of the books I’m excited to read yet they keep sitting on my tbr. Other books are Compulsion, Lola and the Boy Next Door and Summer of Chasing Mermaids. There are too many books to read and not enough time to read all of them!

  6. This is me ALL the time. I get so excited for a book to come out when it it announced, and then it comes out and I am all like…. “eh.” I have no idea why, because I still want to read them. I am weird. I have only read one of the books on your list, Everything Leads to You. It was cute and fun to read about the MC’s job of set designer.

  7. Krystianna

The Catastrophic History of You and Me is an awesome read! Hopefully you get around to it. I haven’t read a lot of these books either, but they are definitely on my list.

  8. I think the same thing happened to me with The Last Boy and Girl in the World. I really like Siobhan Vivian and the premise sounded cool– but then everyone was like MEH and it rained on my excitement. I also SUPER need to read My Heart and Other Black Holes. And anything Nina LaCour I would recommend!!

  9. I did NOT like “The Art of Lainey”. The lead girl was just… UGH.

But OMG YOU GOTTA READ “AMY AND ROGER’S EPIC DETOUR” NOW!! It’s my favorite of Morgan’s books.

  10. I love that we all have a list like this haunting us. Sometimes when I look at my unread books I can feel the oldest titles just resentfully lingering on my shelves. Tsonduko is a real thing.

I really enjoyed Everything Leads to You – the ship is pretty excellent. There’s also a very important couch.

Lainey! FAKE DAAATING. That was a fun, shippy read. I feel the need to reread it, actually, now that I am talking and thinking about it…

I enjoyed Amy and Roger — is there a Matson you can’t enjoy? I admit though, that Since You’ve Been Gone is still my fave.

Loooove that cover for Last Boy and Girl! I need to read that one and My Heart and Other Black Holes…

    One day….

    • IT REALLY IS. It’s so hard to read everything and there are so many books where I’m like honestly Lauren there’s something wrong with you. Pick up the book.

PS I am actually finally 100% reading Amy & Roger in June because my book club picked it out! It’s the best way for me to get to books I keep promising I’ll read hhaa.
