Because I’m crazy about book covers, there are plenty of books I read JUST because the cover is pretty. Of course, there are also lots of books with shitty covers that are worth reading. I just hate when I read a book with a nice cover and the book ends up not meeting my expectations. Not everything that glitters is gold, eh? I just hate that I fall for certain covers and then never really get to use them for anything fun, since the book didn’t meet my expectations.
Here are some of the best covers of books that I didn’t end up liking very much. All of these are 3.5 stars or under – so not too bad – but it does go in order from the “worst” books to the “best” books of the bunch, in terms of my ratings for them.
The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender | Even When You Lie to Me
Meet Me Here | Love Letters to the Dead
Things We Know by Heart | I’ll Give You the Sun
Kiss Cam | A Little Something Different
The Summer of Chasing Mermaids | Even in Paradise
I do love all these covers!! I did like I’ll Give You the Sun and A Little Something Different but haven’t read the rest.
Yeah I know many people did!
All these covers are definitely gorgeous. But oh no! I have the sads that you didn’t love I’ll Give You The Sun, Things We Know by Heart and The Summer of Chasing Mermaids as much as I did. 🙁
I was definitely a black sheep on some of them!
Oh, I picked up Magonia because the cover is gorgeous so it was devastating when I had to DNF it 🙁
Usually, I get lucky though when I randomly grab a book at the library simply based on its cover. Rosebush was one example that worked.
Yeah Magonia was just okay for me.
Ooooh I feel this SO MUCH with Love Letters to the Dead. The cover is incredible, but when I read it it just felt like The Perks of Being a Wallflower part 2.
YES except way worse because I loved Perks lolol
This is a great idea. I should do it. I hate when the cover is gorgeous and the book is just lacking.
Sameee
I absolutely adore the idea of this post! I haven’t read any of these, but they are all GORGEOUS. It’s such a shame when the beautiful outsides don’t match what’s on the inside. I did try reading The Summer of Chasing Mermaids last summer, but I couldn’t really get into it. It feels like everyone loved it, though, so it’s kinda comforting to see someone else who didn’t lol. Lovely post!
Haha thank you! 😀
I haven’t read Ava Lavender yet, but the reason why it’s on my TBR is because of that cover. I’m hoping I’ll still like it even though it’s not my type of book whatsoever (but let’s be honest I probably won’t like you did)
hahaha yeah I’ve seen some mixed reviews overall!
