End of Summer Reading Plans

Posted August 10, 2017 / Book Lists, Discussions, Features / 4 Comments

Each summer, I tell myself I’m going to read allll of the beachy books between Memorial Day and Labor Day. It kind of never happens that way. I have the best intentions and even SAVE some books specifically for that time period, but my ARCs, library books, and other required reading always takes precedence. I have decided NOT to allow that to happen this August. I’m going to read the books I genuinely want to read and make me feel super summery.

Finish The A-List reread

Some Like It Hot (A-List, #6)American Beauty (A-List, #7)Heart of Glass (A-List, #8)Beautiful Stranger (A-List, #9)California Dreaming (A-List, #10)

Cristina and I have been binge-reading THE A-LIST for a feature at the end of the month (and just because we needed the nostalgic, easy-to-read binge right now). To give myself a little credit, these books take place in California (and other warm places like Vegas and Mexico sometimes), so I am getting those summer vibes I hoped for. I’ve finished the first half of the series so now I can focus on the rest ASAP.

Ignore a readathon

I signed up for the Make Me Read It Readathon, which is one of my favorites. I was all prepared to read my three books that were chosen, but I just couldn’t bring myself to stop reading the series above instead. The readathon is almost over and I haven’t touched the books and honestly? I don’t think I’ll bother. I’m always so gung-ho about readathons because they’re fun to sign up for and make a TBR. When the time comes to start reading, I’m rarely in the mood. (That’s why Bout of Books works so well for me!) I’m sorry to completely abandon this readathon because it’s so great, but I just need to keep reading what’s working.

Summery books for the Reading Quest

Love & GelatoThe Islanders Vol. 2The Unexpected Everything

I did a good job of tossing in a few of these ~beachy~ and summer-oriented books onto my TBR for the Reading Quest that I signed up for. This readathon starts on August 13th and goes through September 10th, so I’ll definitely focus on this books for mid-August. I noticed that quite a few of the rest are more fantasy/paranormal, which is great for my early fall reading into the September stretch of the readathon.

Bout of Books 20

Bout of BooksAs you may have assumed from the part above, I’m obviously participating in Bout of Books! I usually use this particular round (August) to focus on those summery books I may have missed. I’m going to use this particular post as my official sign-up for the readathon. My goal is to continue tackling this TBR here and, again, focus on those summery books for the end of the month…

The Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy: The Summer I Turned Pretty; It's Not Summer Without You; We'll Always Have Summer The Summer After You and MeI’ve been hoping to reread the SUMMER series for quite a while and I know they’re quick ones, so MAYBE I’ll be able to squeeze it in at the end of the month. We’ll see. I’ve also had SUMMER AFTER YOU AND ME on my TBR forever, so that’d be a nice one to bang out for Bout of Books as well. Stay tuned for my tracking and wrap-up post for Bout of Books as usual.
