Ten Books for my Sister

Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review.

I’m not sure about the whole kids thing, so I decided to take this week’s topic (Top Ten Books I Want My Future Children to Read (Or nieces and nephews, Godchildren, etc.)) and spin it around again. I previously made a list of books I’d buy my little sister for Christmas and we’ve done a good job of sharing books with each other since then. Out of the books I put in that list, she has since read four of them! Here’s my spin on this week’s topic for books I’d recommend that my little sister (now 16 years old) read.

Fluffy & Shippy Contemporaries

Meet Cute: Some People Are Destined to Meet When Dimple Met Rishi At First Blush

Meet Cute edited by Jennifer L. Armentrout | This book seriously has her name written all over it. I told her the premise of it the other day and she started freaking up. So many meet cutes for her little shipping heart to enjoy.

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon | This shiiiiiiip, she’s gonna freak out. I have a feeling she’ll love the nerdiness plus the sort-of-hate into love romance happening here.

At First Blush by Beth Ellyn Summer | I didn’t looove this one but I think she’d really enjoy it. She loves YouTube (not necessarily makeup/beauty videos, but still). This is cute enough for her to like.

   Zenn Diagram Alex, Approximately Geekerella

Zenn Diagram by Wendy Brant | Add another nerdy romance to the list. I think she’d enjoy the odd magical realism elements to this one too, even though she doesn’t usually read it.

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennet | Into the books she’s already read! I recommended this one because I knew she’d fall hard for the ship, and she totally fell in love with this book.

Geekerella by Ashley Poston | Another one she loved. Geekiness plus Cinderella retelling! I got it for her for her birthday and she devoured it that same week, if I remember correctly.

Recs Out of the Comfort Zone

The Hate U Give Cherry Loop (Loop #1) The Best Kind of Magic (Windy City Magic, #1)

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas | This one is only slightly out of her comfort zone because it’s a heavy contemporary. She doesn’t mind “sad” books necessarily, but this one would be VERY different than those. She almost bought it when we were at a bookstore together so I may get her this for Christmas.

Cherry by Lindsey Rosin | She’s sixteen years old so naturally the whole premise of this one is relevant. I think she’d be very uncomfortable reading it, but the different paths that each girl takes on the whole “losing your virginity” thing would be beneficial for her to read.

Loop by Karen Akins | She’s really just a contemporary kind of girl, but this is a fun time travel twist. I think the ship and romance are strong enough for her to get on board with and hopefully she’d discover a new genre to enjoy on top of it!

The Best Kind of Magic by Crystal Cesari | I think she’d love this one too, even with the paranormal parts. It’s a fun and quick read with a nice romance for her to enjoy. I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel myself!
