Top Ten Tuesdays #377: Excited to Get But Haven’t Read Yet

Books I Was SO Excited to Get
and Still Haven’t Read Yet

Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review.

I kind of think this topic was made for me based on the past two years of my reading life! There are SO many books I was really jazzed up for and they’ve just sat on my Kindle or bookshelf. I feel like I do an okay job of reading my absolute favorite authors’ new releases but anything else just sits there. Even still, I’ve slacked! I broke this into two categories since I don’t really buy new books as much – egalleys I received for review and can’t believe I haven’t read yet, and the books I’ve preordered or purchased that I was pumped for and still need to read.

Review Books

Always JaneNothing More to TellA Season for Second Chances

I’ve adored all of Jenn Bennett’s books but for whatever reason, I didn’t immediately read my review copy of ALWAYS JANE. I think the overall plot didn’t sound as interesting to me and then my friends were saying it was their last favorite of her books. I’m sure I’ll get to it soonish!

I would have thought getting a review copy of NOTHING MORE TO TELL would be an instant read for me because Karen M. McManus is one of those authors I read ASAP when a new book comes out. I think because it doesn’t release until August I’ve just decided to hold off and focus on current/soon-to-come-out releases for now. I’m sure I’ll read it well before August, though!

I adored Jenny Bayliss’s first holiday book a couple of years ago so I thought A SEASON FOR SECOND CHANCES would have been a must-read last year during the holiday season. I think because I’m reading less overall, I don’t get to as many Christmas books as I used to, and this one just didn’t make the initial cut. I will for sure be reading it this holiday season!

RicochetVirtually Yours

RICOCHET had such a unique premise and I was really excited to read it! I remember just never being in the mood for a kind of sci-fi book and put it off for too long. Eventually mediocre reviews kept pushing it off too. I’m sure I’ll be in the mood for it someday.

Sarvenaz Tash is an author I always add to my TBR but unfortunately rarely get to. I saw mixed reviews for her adult debut VIRTUALLY YOURS and inevitably just never got around to reading it. Hopefully sometime.

Physical Copies & Preorders

Instant KarmaMister Impossible (Dreamer Trilogy, #2)Arsenic and Adobo (Tita Rosie's Kitchen Mystery, #1)

I adore Marissa Meyer and INSTANT KARMA seemed so cute! I preordered it and located the audiobook on Scribd, hoping to get to it ASAP when it arrived. Unfortunately because my reading numbers are low and I’m behind all the time, reading super long books just haven’t been on my priority list.

I liked The Raven Cycle as much as anybody but it took me forever to read the spin-off series, so MISTER IMPOSSIBLE has been sitting there untouched on my shelf. I know I should use the audiobook too and get through it at some point but I haven’t had the brain power to read these books since they always confuse me haha.

ARSENIC AND ADOBO was a Book of the Month pick for me and I’ve been suuuuper into cozy mysteries lately. I’m surprised I haven’t started this one yet. I actually almost picked it up earlier this week but decided to opt for a contemporary book as my physical copy since my Kindle book is on the mystery/fantasy side. I’m sure I’ll read this one within the month!

Last Chance BooksThe Heart Principle (The Kiss Quotient, #3)

LAST CHANCE BOOKS was totally a cover-buy for me. I needed it on my shelf and preordered it, which I RARELY do. Mediocre reviews came flying in and reading this just hasn’t been a priority as a result. Oh well, I’ll enjoy the cover whenever I look at it.

And finally – and to be honest, most shockingly – I haven’t read THE HEART PRINCIPLE yet. I feel like I was waiting forever and ever for this book to come out and preordered it with my BOTM. I mean, I read THE BRIDE TEST immediately before it was released in 2019 and have been anxiously awaiting the next installment ever since. Now, it’s been sitting on my shelf since last fall. Ugh.
