2020 Planners, Spreadsheets, and Organization

2020 Planners, Spreadsheets, and Organization

Alright y’all – new year, new planners and spreadsheets! I’ve posted countless organization-related posts over the years that can be found in this category on my blog. I’m keeping some spreadsheets and planners the same as last year and bringing some new things to the table as well, so let’s get into it! Planners (Digital and Paper) Artful Agenda – Digital Life Planner I wrote a whooole post on this when I first got the Artful Agenda, so feel free to check that out for an overview. I use this to sync with my Google calendars (blog posts and personal) and can include other tasks, meals, and to-do lists/notes pages. Below are two screenshots. The first is part of the monthly view: And below includes the daily page layout, next to the calendar section. (For more pictures, definitely check out the post I linked above.) There are priority tasks, other tasks, meals, water intake, and an automated daily quote. The section at the bottom has a title you can edit, so I made mine into a place where I can track groceries and/or things I need to pick up that day. I also use the “other tasks” section for my internet and blog-based tasks; the “priority tasks” section is mostly for ~real-life~ tasks. Bullet Journal for Reading/Books I’m still doing a bullet journal this year for my 2020 reads! Again, I made a whole post about this with my pages before I filled anything in, so check out that post […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #426: Reading Goals

Top Ten Tuesdays #426: Reading Goals

Reading Goal Progress Before EOY Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I always write a post discussing my reading goals for the year so it’s fun to reflect back on that list now that we’re heading into the final quarter of the year! I also wrote recently about how I hope to finish up my reading challenges in the end of the year and certain books or series I hope to read. 2023 Goal Check-In Stay on track or ahead of my Goodreads challenge Knocked this one out of the park. I finished my Goodreads challenge of 80 books in August. I’ve had a renewed sense of energy for reading this year! It’s been lovely. It also takes a little pressure off for the final months of the year. I’m reading some bigger books, fantasy books, and others that I would usually put off because they’d take me too long to read. Keep up Instagram stories about current and completed reads I’ve also kept up with my Instagram reviews! I love sharing monthly TBR plans, wrap-ups, reviews, midpoint check-ins, and more. I’m very pleased with this. Read 1-3 owned (physical) books per month Okay I had to track this down. 1-3 […]

Currently 8/21

Latest prompts stolen from Hannah at So Obsessed With Bookish Things are still going really strong with reading for this year! I’m way ahead on my Goodreads goal and only have to complete ONE BOOK to finish. Ironically I’ve been stuck on two books since before the weekend and have yet to cross that bridge. I had a super busy weekend but hopefully I can crank through the rest of my TBR before next week. Currently reading: I’m currently trying to get through ARC August but also following my moods and library holds lol. I’m reading YOU, WITH A VIEW from Libby on my Kindle. I decided to splurge and get the audiobook for NONE OF THIS IS TRUE in addition to my BOTM copy that finally came in, so I’ll be focusing on finishing that up soon too. Currently audiobook-ing: See above. I have another audio mystery/thriller out from the library as well (ONE OF US IS BACK) that I need to get to but I’m concerned my other holds of the physical copy and ebook aren’t going to coincide. Ideally, I’ll finish my current audiobook and immediately start this one even if the other copies aren’t in yet. Currently recommending: I recently posted my five-star reads of 2023 so far, of which there are technically ten. I featured nine of them in the post because one was a children’s graphic novel that I didn’t review. Currently in my cart: Nothing right now! I did make a fun list on […]

Series Audit

Series Audit

I’ve been watching a lot of booktube lately and have loved watching people like Meg With Books hold themselves accountable about reading and finishing series. I thought it would be fun (and tedious…) to see how I personally do with reading and completing series. Do I start too many and never finish them? How far along do I get before I lose interest? How many series have I read in my life? Read on to find out these answers and more! Overall Series Stats I’ve engaged with 192 different book series in my lifetime. Yes, this is not super accurate since I only put some of my pre-2014 history in Goodreads when I started using it. I didn’t include random books like Watership Down that I read in high school and is technically in a series, but I did include many/most of the series I read for pleasure back in high school (The Clique, Gossip Girl, etc.). I was going to include books that are kind of a series, like the author wrote one full-length book and then followed it up with a novella epilogue or prequel, but those didn’t make the cut here for obvious reasons. I’ve read a total of 560 books that are a part of a series in my life as well. On average, the book series that I’ve started/read contain 4.18 books in the series. This is probably balanced out a bit because some series are duologies or trilogies while others have a lot more books. I’ve read an average of 2.92 […]

10 May Releases for Review

10 May Releases for Review

I finally updated my review copy spreadsheet with some of the books I’ve acquired and never put in from 2020. I’ve been great about updating as things happen in 2021 too. This is my process: when I get a book approval from Netgalley, I immediately send it to my Kindle and update Goodreads shelves (“ARC Kindle” and “owned Kindle” – I know it’s not the same to have a review copy as owning the book, but the “owned” shelf represents ALL of the books I have on my Kindle, so when I need a Kindle book to read I can just select the one shelf). I then go to my 2021 Books spreadsheet and add it in the Acquired tab. And finally, go to my Database of Review Copies spreadsheet and add it in there according to the pub date. I did this the other day when I got four approvals within two days (woof) and realized I currently have TEN review copies to read that are May releases. I share my acquired books and review copies each month, but thought it would be fun to do a round-up of these books, why I’m excited, and when I think I’ll read them! Yes, part of the reason I’m posting this is to hold myself accountable to some kind of schedule to be on time with all of these. I have four publishing on the 4th, three on the 11th, one on the 18th, and two on the 25th, and technically […]

2021 Planners

2021 Planners

I always love sharing my planner setup for the year! I did still use my planners last year, for the most part – I know 2020 was a bizarre year to try to plan but I usually need SOMETHING to physically or digitally keep track of things, even if it’s just monitoring daily to-dos for work or blogging. I have a lot of planners this year because I personally found that I need to keep things separate in order to be successful. Personal Planning Artful Agenda I still use my Artful Agenda, as it syncs up all of my digital calendars and keeps them in one place. I will admit that I don’t currently use the to-do lists as much or the daily page planning, but I do sometimes! I just have a lot of planners and find that I don’t keep this tab open on my computer screen like I used to when working in the office? Not sure why. You can read my detailed review from when I first got this HERE. This is my current planner for events (lol – what are events?) or appointments. Productivity Planner I linked a lot of videos by Jordan Page (Fun Cheap or Free) and while I don’t think I love her from a personal perspective (feel free to do your own research), I think a lot of the tips and methods make sense. I purchased this Productivity Planner based on the block scheduling system she has, which I talk about […]

2020 End of Year Wrap-Up and Stats

2020 End of Year Wrap-Up and Stats

100 Books Read This year sucked. Period. It’s the “worst” reading year I’ve had in a while. I reduced my goal from 120 to 100 books – no regrets – and still had to include cookbooks and other shorter books to meet it. I can’t figure out why my reading spreadsheet is telling me I read 102 books when I definitely didn’t, so enjoy these mostly-accurate charts and reading summaries from this garbage year. Books Read As usual, I read mostly contemporary this year. Just over 50% – not bad! I try to aim for under 50% but why not read what I love? I also include this as a very broad category, including romance. I’m also not surprised to see that mystery/thriller is next. I’ve been really trying to read more of those. Nonfiction is up a lot because I counted a ton of cookbooks 😉 I have to admit that I read a lot of egalleys. I request a bunch of books and frankly do a decent job of actually reading them. I’m not surprised that the mixed format category is a close second. Even if I read only a few chapters via audio, I still count it as a mix. This one isn’t labeled – whoops – but 73% of my books were digital. I just prefer to read on my Kindle than bring around a physical copy, especially because I do a lot of reading in bed when the lights are out. Most contemporary books fall […]

2020 Midyear Book Stats

2020 Midyear Book Stats

Usually I do a whole big fancy post about my book stats and challenge progress, but I’m not currently in the mood to go down the “wow my reading is terrible so my challenges are abysmal” path right now. Even though I’m kind of about to. My current reading spreadsheet automatically makes graphs for me (!!!) so I thought it would at least be fun to share those and look at some breakdowns…. More on the percentages and less about the numbers themselves 😉 Also, these stats are just from January through June and reflect the actual half of a year. Books Read I always say that my goal is to read 50% or LESS of contemporary fiction, and it looks like I’m doing alright this year! I’m pretty surprised by this, not gonna lie. I like the somewhat equal breakdown between other genres. Mystery/thriller being around a quarter of my reads is really nice to see. I’ve been loving those books lately! Nonfiction is only bumped because ya girl has counted cookbooks in her abysmal reading challenge! This one isn’t super surprising, as I’ve been heading more toward adult fiction lately, but it’s still kind of crazy to see that I’m almost at a 50/50 split! I hope to get as close to that as possible as the year goes on. Book Status is a weird title for the chart but it’s basically asking where the book came from or how I acquired it when I read it. This […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #283: Book Talk

Books I Enjoyed But Don’t Talk About Enough Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I did a post similar to this a while back where I discussed some of my favorite four-star reads that I don’t yell about as much. I usually will talk about my FAVORITE books and the five-star reads, so it’s nice to shout out the books you just ENJOYED quite a bit and don’t discuss as much. I decided to focus mostly on books from the end of 2018 or beginning of 2019 since it’s easier to get into 1-2 book spreadsheets and sort for four-star books 😉 Excellent Four-Star Books Needing Love Click on the cover to read my review

Magical Readathon 2020 – OWLS Tracking

Magical Readathon 2020 – OWLS Tracking

As you saw in my sign-up post, I’m joining the OWLS readathon! I’ve decided to become a Hogwarts Professor focusing on Muggle Studies. This career choice allowed me the most flexibility with the prompts, as you’ll see below. Career Choice / Prompts Courses for my career I chose the Hogwarts Professor of Muggle Studies for my career. With this choice, I need to take seven classes total. Defense Against the Dark Arts and the course for my chosen subject (Muggle Studies) are the required classes, and then I can take five more of my choosing! Like I said, this allowed for the most flexibility for me in my reading choices and TBR. We’ll see if I can get all twelve done though! For NEWTS later in the year, I will need to get an O in the subject I’m teaching (Muggle Studies), E in Defense Against the Dark Arts, and at least two A’s in secondary subjects of my choosing. All of the options and TBR Here’s a reminder of the list of potential courses to take and the book-related prompts for them. I’m also including the books I chose as POSSIBLE TBR options for them. As always with my mood reading, this is subject to change!   Ancient Runes // Heart rune: heart on the cover or in the title // The Honey-Don’t List Arithmancy // Magical qualities of number two: balance/opposites – read something outside your favorite genre // Deck of Omens Astronomy // Night classes: read majority of this […]
