Swoony September Challenge

Hello all! I’m here to announce I’ve lost my mind and am joining another challenge. Check out The Bookaholic Blurbs for more details! It’s basically a challenge to read some swoon-worthy contemporary romances for September. This is my favorite genre, so what better time to do this challenge — during my favorite month (which also happens to be my birthday month)! 🙂 Here’s my TBR for the challenge. The books towards the top of the TBR are technically also in my Goodbye Summer Readathon, so I’ll be carrying the swoony summery books for the first half of the month and finishing them after my other readathon is over, if I don’t get to them in time. I should be able to read the whole list by the end of the month while hopefully being able to throw in some other genres in between.

30 Day Book Challenge – Day 30

Your favourite book of all time (Don’t make me do this!!!! How does a girl pick?!) Looking for Alaska by John Green I remember finishing this book and just staring off into space, thinking. I’m not sure how or why the book affected me so much, but it left such an impression on me. It’s so insanely quotable and characters were interesting and unique. I can’t put to words how I feel about this book, but I highly recommend you give it a shot. I’m a John Green hipster and read all of his books years before he was popular, so he holds a special place in my heart. Here are some of my favorite Looking for Alaska quotes. “It always shocked me when I realized that I wasn’t the only person in the world who thought and felt such strange and awful things.” “Francois Rabelais. He was a poet. And his last words were “I go to seek a Great Perhaps.” That’s why I’m going. So I don’t have to wait until I die to start seeking a Great Perhaps.” “I wanted to be one of those people who have streaks to maintain, who scorch the ground with their intensity. But for now, at least I knew such people, and they needed me, just like comets need tails.” “Thomas Edison’s last words were ‘It’s very beautiful over there’. I don’t know where there is, but I believe it’s somewhere, and I hope it’s beautiful.” I hope you’ve enjoyed following along […]

30 Day Book Challenge – Day 29

A book that is most like your life Girls in White Dresses by Jennifer Close Okay so despite not really liking this book that much, it is certainly the closest to my life. It’s about a bunch of 20-somethings who are growing up, getting jobs, and having all of their friends get married. I’m coming to that point in my life where plenty of people are getting engaged or having kids. It’s a weird place to be and this book captured a lot of that awkwardness.

30 Day Book Challenge – Day 28

Favorite Title A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall I haven’t read this one yet, but the title of this book seems to really capture what it’s about. The story features two best friends who are avoiding the fact that they’re in love. A Little Something Different shows all of the different perspectives that people surrounding them have; it includes chapters from a squirrel, a bench, and the Starbucks baristas. It seems like a really cool concept that reflects the title pretty well. This is fairly high up on my TBR list, so I’ll see for sure how appropriate the title is!

30 Day Book Challenge – Day 27

The most surprising plot twist or ending Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn Dang. This book had more plot twists and surprises than I thought were possible. Every time I finished a chapter, something wild happened or was about to happen. The ending was pretty wild (and not what I was hoping for). It’s not easy to give any kind of plot summary because the spoilers and twists start happening within the first few chapters (primarily starting in the second part). This book was amazing.

Goodbye Summer TBR List

Today I’ll be starting my Goodbye Summer Readathon, where I motivate myself to finish the summery books I like to read during the season. Here’s my information post and the general page where I’ll be updating progress and goals. I don’t expect anyone to join in – but you’re more than welcome to! This is just my way of getting through some summer books before fall officially starts. Without further ado, here’s my TBR list that I’ll be completing between now and September 15th. I’ll be kicking it off with Since Last Summer!

30 Day Book Challenge – Day 26

A Book that Changed your Opinion on Something Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich This book certainly changed my opinion. The description says so itself: “Nickel and Dimed reveals low-wage America in all its tenacity, anxiety, and surprising generosity. Instantly acclaimed for its insight, humor, and passion, this book is changing the way the nation perceives its working poor.”  Like other people who grew up not worrying about money as much as others, I didn’t really think of the “working poor too much.” Often, the opinions I had were negative. I kept thinking: why didn’t they just go to college? Why can’t they find anything better? Of course the answers aren’t that simple. This book opened my eyes to the struggle so many people face on a daily basis. She spends her days working various minimum wage jobs, exploring how difficult they can be, and trying to make ends meet. Goodreads seems to have some critical reviews of this book, but it really opened my mind up.

30 Day Book Challenge – Day 25

A Character who you can Relate to the Most Lara Jean || To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han  I’ve been with my boyfriend for two years now, but before him – I was all about the crushes. I always had my eye on multiple people at once. I always felt super attached to ex-boyfriends and almost-boyfriends. I never really had a good way of getting over people; I’d let them mess with my head a little too much in the meantime. Lara Jean writes letters to the boys she used to love and keeps them as a way to move on. I wish I did this when I was younger! Maybe then it would have been easier to let go of my past. I can relate to her confusion about different boys and her feelings towards them. She was funny and a little awkward, which I can be at times too.

Goodbye Summer Readathon: Join Me!

I’ve decided to create readathon – primarily for myself to get my summer butt in gear! Each summer, I like to mostly read books about the season. I love to read about girls who head off to summer vacations or go on road trips. There are quite a few summery books on my TBR list that I somehow avoided this summer. Now that the season is coming to a close, I’ve decided to make a list of these books and finish them by the end of “summer”! If you would like to join me, feel free to link up in the comments! You can use my image and just connect it with my blog so others can join in. Here’s the official information page where I’ll be filling in my updates, TBR list, and other information. What I’m Doing Making a list of the books I wanted to complete this summer but didn’t get to. They’ll all be books about the summer season and/or feature summery things, like road trips and vacations. Setting a goal to read all of the books I add to my TBR list. Joining with anyone else who decides to take part by checking out their posts and keeping up with their goals/TBR list. Sitting back and enjoying the books! Bout of Books stressed me out more than it should have (I know that’s not the point of it!), so I want to just relax with my summery books and see if I can read them all before […]
