April TBR (Including A Very ARC-ish Readathon and Owned Book April)

April TBR (Including A Very ARC-ish Readathon and Owned Book April)

I recently started a monthly TBR feature, where I try to pin down which books I plan to read in the upcoming month. It also helps remind me throughout the month which books I’m supposed to be reading, for various reasons. I add a little poll at the bottom too, so you guys can vote and help me narrow down some of my options as well. Here are my top TBR choices for this month and how I did last month… March Progress Another good month of TBR-related progress! I read or started SIX of the books I chose ahead of time. I am super proud of myself for this. Okay, one of them was a DNF, but still. I’m happy I at least got to six of them. A couple were disappointing and one (WHAT TO SAY NEXT) blew me away, so I suppose that’s not bad. And I banged out three Netgalley reviews out of these! On Deck for April Personal Challenge: Owned Book April This month I’m focusing on reading books I own physical copies of. This can definitely include ARCs (especially if the pub date has already passed) and other already-published physical copies I haven’t read yet. I came up with this idea before making my March TBR (which included a lot of borrowed books) so I decided to focus on it for April instead. My goal is to read 75% books I own. The other 25% can include ARC tour books that come in, audiobooks I listen to, […]

Adult Fiction Reads on my Radar (2)

Adult Fiction Reads on my Radar (2)

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I have been reaching for the adult contemporary fiction books lately. I always used to add them to my TBR based on some of my favorite bloggers’ recs but I would never actually sit and read them. (Evidence of this? Since the last version of this post, I read a whopping ZERO of the books I highlighted, so please come punch me in the face.) Here are some adult fiction books I plan to read sometime!    The Antiques by Kris D’Agostino /// The plot feels very similar to Reunion, but I hope it turns out a little better for me! I love learning about the different family dynamics and drama that happens when people reunite. I almost picked it up at the library a few weeks ago but I had a bad feeling it’d sit there unread. Forever is the Worst Long Time by Camille Pagan /// This title is a tongue twister, lol. This is a very love triangley book but I like the sound of it! Sometimes you can’t help how you feel about people and this book seems to explore what happens when certain lines get crossed. The Forever Summer by Jamie Brenner /// I love books set on Cape Cod, so this book has that going for it right off the bat. When the MC’s life starts falling apart, a woman who is apparently her half-sister whisks her away to a B&B on the Cape. She meets new family members and […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #130: Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesdays #130: Spring TBR

Ten Books on my Spring TBR Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. As much as I love participating in TTT, it was nice to have a breather for two weeks while the meme was on hiatus! I think I’ve done one every single week since starting my blog? Maybe? So this was a fun break to regroup and focus on other posts. Without further ado, this week’s refreshed TTT – top ten books on my spring TBR list! I’ve been doing a lot of monthly TBRs on the blog but this is fun to highlight upcoming releases I really want to read this spring. Blacklist by Alyson Noel   •   Royce Rolls by Margaret Stohl Literally by Lucy Keating   •  Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han All of these books have been featured on BL multiple times, because clearly I’m too excited. They have release dates between April and May, so I hope to read them ASAP once they’re out! I have a few preordered already and will probably buy more as they come out. Eeek! Gimme! Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen   •   Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo Along for the Ride is one of my top Dessen favorites and I’ve […]

Recent Read-Bait: Carnivals, Disappearances, and Lottery/Riches

Recent Read-Bait: Carnivals, Disappearances, and Lottery/Riches

You may remember my read-bait series from a long time ago, where I talked about certain keywords, phrases, and tropes that call my name. I planned to keep going with these posts because there are many, many topics that suck me right in. My two recent posts discussed reunions, memory loss, and boarding school, then fake dating, bucket lists, and family drama. Here I am today to talk about recent words that have grabbed me…I originally made up a whole post about circus-related books but I really couldn’t come up with enough content. I love the magical feel of the carnival (especially in books, because there’s usually real magic involved). Caraval by Stephanie Garber sealed the deal for me when I read it over the summer. I’ve added so many books to my TBR involving carnivals of some kind. I’m not one for mystery/thriller books usually because I get creeped out easily but I’ve been trying to expand my horizons. I thought The Leaving by Tara Altebrando was super interesting – not perfect – and it made me want to add more to my TBR. There are quite a few books in this “disappearance” category. Something about a person going away/being kidnapped and, in some cases, coming back, really intrigue me because I’m left wondering what happened in the interim! And finally, this makes an appearance again as an old, resurfaced favorite: rich people. I used to read all the classic rich, boarding school stories when I was younger. In this […]

March TBR

March TBR

I used to be terrible at sticking to TBR lists because of mood reading, but I’ve been getting much better at it lately! I want to make TBR lists for each month as a separate post, and hopefully you guys can help me narrow down some choices with a little poll at the bottom too. Here are some options for this month! February Progress     For my first TBR post, I’m actually pretty impressed with myself! Out of the 9 books I shared for February, I read 4 of them! I focused on KISS CAM for Valentine’s Day feels, FROST LIKE NIGHT for book club, REUNION as an audiobook selection, and THE FORGETTING from my TBR poll at the bottom. On Deck for March Lots o’ ARCs – Kindle Edition      The Football Girl / Done Dirt Cheap / Secrets of a Reluctant Princess I’m not sure why I let my review copies get out of control, but good lord! I hope to get ahead on reviews by getting through some March/April releases ASAP. This includes the three books above. All of them are waiting on my Kindle, ready to be read. I hope to keep three books going at once (audio, physical/ARC, and ebook/eARC) so I can crank through more books depending on my mood. I’m really excited about all three of these! Lots o’ ARCs – Borrowed Edition    What to Say Next / Changes in Latitude / Hello, Sunshine I still have a handful of books to read from Marg, but two of […]

February TBR

I used to be terrible at sticking to TBR lists because of mood reading, but I’ve been getting much better at it lately! I want to make TBR lists for each month as a separate post, and hopefully you guys can help me narrow down some choices with a little poll at the bottom too. Here are some options for this month! On Deck for February… Contemporaries for Valentine’s Day Feels     Kiss Cam / 26 Kisses / Seven Days of You These books have been on my TBR forever and two of them are even old ARCs that I should probbbbably read. I love the kissy covers and the romance plots for these! I think it’ll be nice to do a little contemporary binge in the middle of the month for Valentine’s Day. I’ll probably find another to toss in there too but who knows. I think that KISS CAM at the very least is a priority for me. My sister recently read 26 KISSES and wasn’t a huge fan. I’ve had a copy of SEVEN DAYS OF YOU for a very long time and would like to read it in time for a release week review. It seems so cute! I love reading about a different international setting than Europe. Fantasies for Winter Hibernation    Crooked Kingdom / Empire of Storms / Frost Like Night I want to get some of these fantasy series cracking (and finished, in two cases here). I recently acquired all of these books through […]

Cover Love for 2017 Releases

Part three of my incredibly-random-usually-once-a-year feature is here! (Check out parts one and two if you’re so inclined.) I wanted to focus on some of my favorite covers of upcoming releases for 2017. I’ve shared bits and pieces of them throughout the year in other situations, but here’s a roundup in my usual format. No links because there’s too many, but enjoy regardless! 😉 Check the link below to see them on my GR shelf. From my Cover Love shelf on Goodreads  Which are your favorites? I can’t resist Jupiter Lemon’s and seriously can’t stop talking about that book for some reason. I hope it lives up to my lofty expectations at this point!

Books to Reread in 2017

Books to Reread in 2017

I always have grand plans to reread ALL THE BOOKS but it almost never happens. The only reason I had a decent amount in 2016 is because I binge-listened to A Series of Unfortunate Events, reread the first two books in the Secrets of my Hollywood Life series (each book in one day, because they’re so short and easy!), finished my Harry Potter reread with book seven, and reread Before I Fall for book club. So, in other words, there were a lot of easy audios and quick 200-page books! I mentioned in my 2017 Resolutions post that I plan to restart my Nostalgia Project by rereading and finishing off old series, as well as rereading more in general. I’m not sure what I’ll complete for that project but I know I’d like to reread some of these old favorites in 2017. Here’s my reread TBR! I’ll always fondly remember reading Anna and the French Kiss – and the two companions, Lola and the Boy Next Door and Isla and the Happily Ever After – because it was a part of the first blogging event I actually participated in, and brought me to some of my FAVORITE people. These books were such quick reads and incredibly adorable. I read all of them within three weeks the first time, but I’d love to read them back-to-back-to-back at some point in 2017. I started rereading Sarah Dessen books over the past two years, but kept saving some of my all-time favorites for […]

2017 Resolutions

2017 Resolutions

Last year we had a TTT for our resolutions and even though there isn’t one this year, I knew I had to make one myself. It turned into a fairly important set of goals for me in 2016. I ended up revisiting those goals/resolutions throughout the year and actually did a great job of keeping up with them! I’m actually not a big New Years person. Time and dates are completely arbitrary. I don’t make personal resolutions and don’t really think of the new year as a “fresh start.” However, for the blog (and for a couple of personal things!) I like the idea of setting goals in January because it gives you a concrete timeline of when to finish them. This year, I did keep similar resolutions in some places and just edited them a little bit more. Otherwise, these are brand new! Read less… and give myself time to focus on other hobbies ///  This goal is actually the same from last year, except I plan to reduce my goal even more and see where I end up. I averaged 11-12 books per month in 2016, which is down from the 14-15 per month in 2015. That’s good! I had a reading slump and was totally burned out by October, so I had no motivation anymore. I want to avoid that even further this year. I hope to expand this a little bit by also limiting audiobooks. I don’t want to always have one going, so I can enjoy podcasts and other […]

Books and Movies with Similar Premises

Books and Movies with Similar Premises

When I sat down to write my list of 2017 releases I was looking forward to, I realized there were a lot of books that had similar premises to moves I once watched and loved. Books are constantly getting turned into movies and movies will keep coming out with sequels – long past their prime – because it can definitely be hard to have a completely unique idea now. There’s so much content all the time and I LOVE IT. You have no idea how excited I was to read these books synopses and say “hey, that sounds like [insert movie name here]!” If I enjoyed the movie and the idea behind it, you bet your ass I’ll read a book with a similar premise. I’ll be featuring upcoming books and the movies I thought of (purely based on the synopsis), as well as one book I read that reminds me of a TV series miniseries I’m in the middle of. To be clear: I’m not saying any of these books copied the movies or that they’re “retellings” in YA form. I’m just saying that the premises sound similar enough for me to write this post, alrighttttt? Groundhog Day + A Week of Mondays Like most people who enjoy comedy and/or Bill Murray, I really like GROUNDHOG DAY. It’s an ~older~ movie compared to some others on here but the premise is obviously timeless. The synopsis reminds me of A WEEK OF MONDAYS, which I have yet to read, and BEFORE I FALL, which […]
