Read-a-Thon TBR: Make Me Read It

Starts at 8:00am on July 20th and ends at 12:00am on July 27th #MakeMeRead tag on Twitter/Instagram Check out the intro pages (Val’s or Ely’s) and the rules below: Look at the books you own, either physical, e-book or ones you’ve borrowed from the library and pick out a few you really want to read, or feel like you should read. It’s up to you how many you pick, personally I’d pick a few more than you expect to be able to read in a week. Example: if you think you’ll only read two, pick out five books or if you think you can read seven, pick out ten. Make a list of these books on your blog, or make a video, or a Goodreads shelf or post a picture on Instagram—whatever is easiest for you. Then get friends, other bloggers/booktubers etc. to vote on which books you HAVE to read. When the read-a-thon comes along, you read the books in the order of most votes. For example, if one book gets 10 votes—you read that first, then the one that got 7 and so on. If there’s a tie, then it’s your preference. The goal is to read as many as possible. Votes have been tallied – here are the results! The read-a-thon is starting TOMORROW and I cut off voting a few days ago, so I could prepare myself (and this post, lol). Here are the books I’ll be reading in rank order. As the rules suggest, you […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #44: Summer TBR

Top Ten Tuesdays #44: Summer TBR

Ten Books on my Summer TBR for 2015 Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. The TTT from a few weeks ago included books I plan to throw into my beach bag this summer, so I’m going to give you a brief recap of what those books were (series/duologies represented by the first book’s cover): Aaaaand as usual I have more than 10 here, but I couldn’t resist… Everyone knows my extreme love for Dissonance by Erica O’Rourke, so obviously I am VERY excited to get my hands on Resonance when it comes out! I absolutely love that world and can’t wait to see how it all ends up. Even though I wasn’t super thrilled with Get Even by Gretchen McNeil, I DEFINITELY need to know what happens next with that ending. Get Dirty comes out this summer and I want it. And, last but not least, Maybe In Another Life by Taylor Jenkis Reid sounds phenomenal. I have Under the Lights by Dahlia Adler for review, so I plan to read that and its predecessor (Behind the Scenes) at some point this summer. I’m excited for Anne & Henry by Dawn Ius as well, despite some of the early reviews. I’m on the blog tour for Never Always Sometimes by […]

Favorite Book Quotes

It’s been a while since I’ve compiled one of my OWN bookish lists, which is something I had originally planned to feature a lot on this blog! I’ve been trying to clean up my favorite quotes on Goodreads and this seemed like a perfect opportunity to share some! That, plus the fact that I downloaded some gorgeous new fonts that I feel the need to mess around with. Part of me knows one more day won’t do anything except postpone the heartbreak. But another part of me believes differently. We are born in one day. We die in one day. We can change in one day. And we can fall in love in one day. Anything can happen in just one day. Just One Day – Gayle Forman When someone’s been gone a long time, at first you save up all the things you want to tell them. You try to keep track of everything in your head. But it’s like trying to hold on to a fistful of sand: all the little bits slip out of your hands, and then you’re just clutching air and grit. That’s why you can’t save it all up like that. Because by the time you finally see each other, you’re catching up only on the big things, because it’s too much bother to tell about the little things. But the little things are what make up life. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – Jenny Han Imagining the future is a kind of […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #34: TBR

Top 10 Books I Recently Added to my TBR Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Links go to Goodreads or my review. I recently split my Goodreads TBR into a basic “to read” shelf for books that are already released, and a “TBR unreleased” for books that haven’t come out yet. I decided to highlight the most recent five books from each TBR here! The One that Got Away by Bethany Chase | Every Breath by Ellie Marney | Angelfall by Susan Ee | The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins | Steering the Stars by Autumn Doughton & Erica Cope | When We Collided by Emery Lord | Feminism for the Real World by Kelly Jensen | Young Widows Club by Alexandra Coutts | All the Rage by Courtney Summers

Top Ten Tuesdays #32: Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesdays #32: Spring TBR

Top 10 Books on my Spring TBR Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. This week’s topic is simple: what books we plan on reading this spring! I’ve broken mine down into a few categories. I’m hoping to get to all of the library books and the ARCs within the next month or so. I really want to read some of the others on my TBR because they’ve been on it forever. {Links take you to Goodreads!}   The Disenchantments by Nina LaCour | I love the neon colors in this cover and randomly decided to grab it from the library the last time I went. It seems cute! The Falconer by Elizabeth May | Morgan recommended this one to me when I mentioned how much I love fae books. I had no idea that this was one until she told me! I’m so excited to read this; I basically ran to the library that day and checked it out after her rec. I’m hoping to get to this one next, actually! Reunion by Hannah Pittard | I haven’t heard the best reviews for this one, but I’m still really drawn to the synopsis. I think after reading the reunion and homecoming story Nowhere But Home by Liza Palmer, this one is […]

Read-Bait: “Fairy”

Read-Bait: “Fairy”

Here’s another post in a new series here at the blog: Read-Bait! Over the coming weeks, I’ll be featuring different words or phrases that catch my eye in book descriptions, the books I’ve read under those categories, and the books I plan on reading. I hope it shares some insight about my reading preferences and interests. As always, feel free to recommend any books you’d think I like! You know how it goes: you’re browsing Goodreads, clicking on books that look interesting, and checking out their summaries. All of a sudden you see a certain word or phrase in the synopsis that triggers an automatic reaction to click that “Want to Read” button. I call this “read-bait” – any word(s) that make you instantly think that you MUST read this book. One example for me is… I think in general fairy books can be VERY hit or miss for some people. I’ve always been fascinated by the possible existence of faeries. (Yes I’m probably going to switch between different spellings throughout this. Sorry. Not sure why this happens to me.) My cousins and I used to run around looking for them and literally talk about them nonstop. Some of the first fae stories I read were Tithe by Holly Black and Faerie Wars by Herbie Brennan. I read them SO long ago that I genuinely don’t remember much about them. In fact, I recently mixed the two series up and ended up buying quite a few books in one series when I […]

I call this “read-bait” – any word(s) that make you instantly think that you MUST read this book. One example for me is… I joined in with Andi and some others on a feature called Parallel Time Loop, where we featured our favorite books about time travel and parallel universes. I have been fascinated with this topic for as long as I can remember and chose Just Like Fate for my book. My post over there about my background and experience with parallel universes and how every decision shapes our lives in some way. ANYWAYS, that book was really my first foray into the genre and I loved it. It was a parallel life book, where one decision that Caroline makes alters the path of her life forever. It asks the question: do we end up in the same […]

I call this “read-bait” – any word(s) that make you instantly think that you MUST read this book. One example for me is… Clearly this topic sounds a bit morbid, but hear me out. You all know you agree with me. When there’s a book about the various aspects involved with death, moving on, or grieving – I’m all about it. Whether the person in the book actually dies (not a spoiler, it’s in the synopsis!), or they’re getting over the death of someone, or they’re obsessed with the concept of death, or even if they’re in that “in between” place between earth and the afterlife… I am so on board. Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin is a book I read a LONG time ago, but was my first introduction into books that occur after death. In this case, […]

I call this “read-bait” – any word(s) that make you instantly think that you MUST read this book. One example for me is… The minute I see a plot summary for a book involving some kind of special school, I’m on board. I loved the idea of attending boarding school when I was younger: living with your classmates, walking to class like you’re at college – it all sounded awesome. My first foray into this category was the Private series by Kate Brian. It featured a girl who attended private school on scholarship and got involved in some pretttttty crazy shit, including murders, mean girls, and boy drama. Along that same vein, when Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar branched out and gave Jenny her own series, The It Girl, I was in heaven. Jenny was headed […]

February TBR and Books & Bloggers Swap Reveal

In honor of being home “working” on this snowy day, I had plenty of time to mess around on the computer and do bloggy things. (Primarily this means making lots of graphics for posts and trying to whittle down that 300-post Bloglovin feed!) I haven’t shared a TBR post in a few months so I figured today would be a great day – especially because of the holiday approaching this month that’s all about LOOOOVE. You can clearly see that I’m planning on packing in the contemporaries this month. I’m currently in the middle of Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard and I’m enjoying it… for the most part. I’m definitely invested in the story and interested to see what’s going to happen, but my attention span is struggling. I can only read a few pages before letting myself get distracted by the internet. I’m not sure if it’s just because January was a big fantasy month for me and I’m over it (for now), or because of the book itself. Regardless, today I started Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill and am hoping that’s a nice contemporary break. It should only take me a few sittings to finish it. I have two swoony E-ARCs to read this month too and I’m super excited! Promposal by Rhonda Helms sounds cute and right up my alley; I always am interested to hear how people get asked out to dances! “Promposals” were just starting to get big while I was in school and I […]
