[ARC] April TBR

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. March Progress      I did a fucking great job with my TBR this past month! I was determined to get some challenges going (okay yes just the Retellings Challenge) while finishing up required reading (book club picks, review copies, blog tour, etc.). I did DNF the first book listed above because I couldn’t get into it. Oh well. I only read one book that wasn’t on my TBR because I didn’t realize I’d be able to get it so quickly through Hoopla. Up Next in April As I’ve done in the past, I’ll use the months starting with A for focusing on reading ARCs! There’s the actual ARC August challenge but sometimes I make my own little ARC April. I’ll be definitely doing that this month, with the exception of audiobooks (unless it’s an already-published review copy I have that now as an audiobook available) and my book club/required reading picks as needed. You’ll see, based on individual goals below, I’m hoping to make at least 6 books review copies during April (but ideally I would read more like 8-10, or all of the books I read) Review Copies (Egalleys) Past […]

Spring Bingo TBR Ideas

Spring Bingo TBR Ideas

Hosted by Pretty Deadly Reviews Another season, another round of bingo! As usual, I’m here to share some of my best ideas for filling this card out. I’ll be honest: most of the boxes on my cards get filled out somewhat organically, where I read a book and THEN see that it fits. I still really enjoy making these seasonal lists, thinking about my long-term TBR plans, inspiring myself whenever needed, AND hopefully helping others find books for them too! Completed so far / current reads   Author shares last initial: Springtime at Hope Cottage by Annie Rains (both R last names) School setting: Girls with Sharp Sticks by Suzanne Young (boarding school – creeeeepy one) Set outside the US: Enchantée by Gita Trelease (Historical fiction / fantasy set in Paris) Ideas for the rest    Warm climate: The Last Resort by Marissa Stapley (luxury resort in the Mayan Riviera) Weapon on the cover: Windwitch by Susan Dennard (sword) Three word title: Again, But Better by Christine Riccio (obvious lolol)    Novella: A Wedding on Lavender Hill by Annie Rains (novella in the Sweetwater Springs series) Yellow cover: The Dating Game by Kiley Roache (bright yellow, eh?) Standalone: Here and Now and Then by Mike Chen (self-explanatory)    Spring release: Don’t Date Rosa Santos by Nina Moreno (have a borrowed ARC – comes out in May too) Water on the cover: One Night at the Lake by Bethany Chase (look at that lake y’all) Book you own: Everything Must Go by Jenny Fran Davis (on my Picky Pledge TBR!)    Large cast […]

March TBR

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. February Progress       One of the bigger issues with moving from December to January is how quickly those review copies for January creep up on you! I had way too many ARCs due between January and February and definitely didn’t get ahead (December is holiday month, obvs). I was able to do some catching up AND getting ahead in February though, so I can’t complain too much! I OWE YOU ONE and THE AU PAIR were overdue egalleys that I didn’t enjoy as much as I hoped, but still had pretty positive ratings. THE BRIDE TEST is something I couldn’t resist – I NEEDED IT. I finished CROOKED KINGDOM in anticipation of KING OF SCARS, which took me most of the month to read. Whoops? Up Next in March Review Copies (Egalleys) Enchantee by Trelease | The Truth About Leaving by Blitt | The Manic Pixie Dream Boy Improvement Project by Applehans | One Night at the Lake by Chase | You Owe Me a Murder by Cook I talked recently about my desire to develop an egalley reading schedule that allows me to catch up, stay on track, and get […]

Picky Pledge

Picky Pledge

I noted in a couple of wrap-up posts that I wanted to join Hannah and Alexa in their Picky Pledge, which is where they read books from their shelves and limit book buying. I’ll admit that I definitely don’t have a book buying problem because of how picky I already am, but I DO have a problem with not reading backlist books on my shelves. I *used to* have a book buying issue, which has led to a lot of books on my shelves that I either (a) will never read or (b) still definitely want to read but haven’t yet. I’ve already embarked on this for January and February, as you saw in the linked Bulletins, but I thought I’d run through some ideas for a Picky Pledge TBR. For more details on the project, be sure to read Alexa and Hannah’s posts I linked earlier! Both of the books below could be interchanged because they fit both categories – I bought both books because they’re book two in a series or duo, and I love both of the authors. I just put them this way arbitrarily. Because there are 12 prompts for the Picky Pledge, I decided to read one book from my shelves each month to finish up the challenge. Below are some ideas that I pulled from combining and cross-referencing my “to read” and “own physical” shelves on Goodreads. A book you bought for the cover   The Last Little Blue Envelope by Johnson | The […]

February TBR

February TBR

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. January Progress My major reading goal this month was to finish up the ROSE GARDNER series with the final three books, and I succeeded in that! I was cranking through them and finished all three in about a week, even while I had other reading obligations for blog tours and book club going on. PRETTY and ARCHENEMIES were for those two things, respectively. I finished THIS LIE as an audiobook to get the review copy done from Netgalley and FAMOUS was my first read of the year. NINE was a hold but I had anticipated it on my TBR for the month – woo! Up Next in February Review Copies (Egalleys)       I Owe You One by Kinsella | Enchantee by Trelease | The Au Pair by Rous | Comics Will Break Your Heart by Hicks | The Dating Game by Roache | The Bride Test by Hoang I have been a failure at reading review copies so far in 2019. I think it’s because I got some unsolicited ARCs, which I’m actually very excited about in theory, but I wasn’t planning for them. I’ve also been shying away from fantasy so far this […]

January TBR

January TBR

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. December Progress I knew I was going to read mostly Christmas books throughout December, so this is not surprising at all. I basically kept my TBR open with these reads. I didn’t read for book club because we pushed it to January and didn’t finish the ROSE GARDNER series either. (I knew that’d happen!) I ended up DNFing one of the books above, but it was on my TBR and I attempted it! Up Next in January First Book of the Year! Foolish Hearts by Mills I made FOOLISH HEARTS my first read of 2018 for a few reasons – Emma Mills never disappoints me. Her books are quick, cute, and fluffy, which means I can usually finish them in 1-2 days. Getting my reading year off on the right foot is key for me, so I borrowed a copy of FAMOUS IN A SMALL TOWN from a friend in order to make Mills my first author/read of the year in 2019 too. WOO! [Already finished] Required Reading: Book Club & Blog Tour     Archenemies by Meyer | Pretty in Punxsutawney by Crompton We pushed ARCHENEMIES to January because one of […]

December TBR [Update]

December TBR [Update]

I posted a dual November-December TBR last month with the books I assumed I’d be reading to finish off my challenges. Since then, I’ve come to happy terms with not finishing my NG/EW challenge (but have no problem with the other two!), so I thought I’d do an updated TBR for December based on those changes and my holiday TBR plans. My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. November Progress         A suuuuper successful TBR month. I really busted ass to finish off my challenges, for the most part. There were a few books out of my norm, which was great! I enjoy the variety and hope to keep that up in the coming year. I managed to read two nonfiction books, a few historical fiction or paranormal stories, some mystery… It was a diverse reading month and I’m really happy with myself. November allowed me to finish off my two major book challenges so I could focus ahead on reading holiday romances. (I’m still listening to THE TOWERING SKY right now but had to include it since I started in November, which is the point of a TBR I suppose!) Book Club    Archenemies by Meyer We’re […]

Tis the Season! | Holiday 2018 Plans

Tis the Season! | Holiday 2018 Plans

I feel like I’m more excited for Christmas than ever before this year. Not sure why, but it’s true y’all. I found myself getting the itch for Christmas movies in late September and I’ve been holding myself back until Halloween to finally listen to Christmas music – that’s always my deadline. Otherwise, my decorations are up after Thanksgiving and we get our tree the first weekend of December. This year’s holiday posts will be plentiful because I’ve already started reading some light holiday books. Keep reading to see what’s happening on the blog over the next month and a half! I pulled this TBR together back in mid-October because I LOVE CHRISTMAS. It also happened to be because I was in the middle of planning my November TBR and I knew I wanted some holiday reads on there. You’ll see that I have four books for review, four books pulled from last year’s TBR that I didn’t get to, and six books that are either newly published in 2018 or just new-to-me. Mistletoe Cottage by Mason | The Best Little Christmas Shop by Morrey It Started with Christmas by Hale | The Corner of Holly and Ivy by Mason I have one egalley from last year that I never got to – CHRISTMAS SHOP – so I definitely want to catch up on that. I also have three more books. I have a physical ARC of MISTLETOE COTTAGE (plus an egalley by the same author – CORNER OF HOLLY/IVY) and […]

Some Adult Fiction On My TBR

Some Adult Fiction On My TBR

You all know that I read mostly YA fiction, but I’ve noticed a trend toward ~adult~ fiction, either contemporary or mystery/thrillers. A lot of it is because I’ve been binge-reading one author’s cozy mystery series a for a month or so, but I’ve found myself adding more books that are closer to my age target. I feel very in-between YA and adult though because so many books are about divorce or familial problems with characters 40+ years old. Someone in their late-twenties or early-thirties is more in my range of life experiences, so I’ve been excited to see some of those books coming to fruition lately. Here are some of the top adult/older fiction books on my TBR! Life on the Leash by Victoria Shade September 2018 | Goodreads Must Love Dogs meets My Not So Perfect Life in this hilarious romantic comedy about a dog trainer who’s a master at managing her four-legged friends, but when it comes to her love life…let’s just say she still has a lot to learn. Cora Bellamy is a woman who thrives on organization. She’s successfully run her own dog training business for years, perfectly content with her beloved rescue pitbull as the main man in her life. She’s given everything to her business, and her lack of social life (or slobber-free clothes) has been completely worth it. But all that changes when she meets Charlie Gill, the hottest client she’s ever had. The only problem? Charlie’s taken. Luckily, Cora has a new friend—the sweet, lovably […]

November & December TBR – Finishing Challenges

November & December TBR – Finishing Challenges

I always do some check-ins in the middle of the year and again toward the end of the year, because you know I’m trying to finish my challenges successfully! I try to make a big TBR post that highlights all of the books I should read before the end of the year and usually writing this in November kicks me into gear. How is the year almost over?! HELP. Because I can’t decide which end-of-year books I want to read dependent on the month (and have a separate holiday TBR posting mid-November), I thought I would highlight what books I should read OVERALL between Nov/Dec to get my challenges done with.  My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. October Progress        Another successful TBR month! It helps that I’ve been binging that series, TBH, but still! I’ll take progress wherever I can. From left to right above… I read two more Rose Gardner books, my two book club picks for October (one early in the month and one later), one blog tour book, an egalley I was hoping to get to for the Halloween feels, and a library book. Book Club EOY TBR    The Reckoning of Noah […]
