I wanted to give myself a little time to post the other year-end wrap-ups before sharing my December one. I definitely managed to meet my Goodreads goal with a little time to spare, as is my normal goal. I would rather be right on the money than have 1-2 extra reads for some reason. In any case, I read a lot of Christmas stories to push through, enjoyed a few audiobooks, and read some 2019 releases to finish off the month/year. I was DETERMINED to finish my reading challenges for the year in November, with the exception of the Netgalley/Edelweiss Challenge (I just didn’t see it working, especially when I kept requesting books and making my percentage go down instead of up, even though I have been reading for it!). Because of this, I read a lot of books “out of my comfort zone” that were in line with my two challenges. It was a weird month but I’m glad I pulled through and did it all! I’m officially caught up because I read 11 books this month, meaning I just need the final 10 to finish off the year. I’m back into my slow reading habits, as you learned in my post about playing catch-up from this month. I don’t know what it is, guys. I’m reading so much slower than usual, prioritize every other thing over reading, and hardly ever have the motivation to read. I’ve been binge-reading the Rose Gardner mystery series, which has been good and addicting at times, but I’m still just kind of slogging through everything otherwise. I was able to pull off a few reads in the latter half of the month (thank you, graphic novels and novellas) to catch up a little more. All of the books read this month: Netgalley & Edelweiss Challenge 3 read this month | 37 read total | 71% NG ratio Popsugar Reading Challenge 3 read this month | 36 read total | 90% complete Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge 0 read this month | 10 read total | 83% complete None this month! I had more reading mojo this month and that’s definitely thanks in part to audiobooks. Even if I was flipping between the audio and a physical copy, I was able to read more things in less time. I wanted to get my Goodreads goal around the right amount, meaning I should finish the month with 90 books read. I finished off a trilogy and embarked on another series binge, which always helps my reading mojo. Overall, this was a solid month that definitely got me back on track! I feel like my wheels are constantly spinning, trying to get my Goodreads goal back on track. I honestly think my ARC August participation was bad for my overall reading numbers, but great for catching up on the intended purpose – reading books for review. The issue was that I wanted to read 75% ARCs, which meant I would NOT read other non-ARCs (aka audiobooks) even when I was in the mood for them. In hindsight, I should have just said I wanted to read 5-7 ARCs and called it a day. There were times I was in the mood for an audiobook and just decided not to listen to it because it would mess up my challenge, which is so not the point. Wooof what a garbage reading month. I knew it was going to be somewhat tough since I’d be settling into our new place, but I didn’t realize just how bad the slump was going to be. I was able to cover a little more ground within the last week of the month but not as much as I’d hoped. I saw the “1-2 books behind” warning on Goodreads for the first time in honestly over a year. Regardless, my life is mostly calming down and settling now, so fingers crossed I make up for some lost ground in August. I don’t like to post these before the end of the month because I’m always afraid I’ll read/finish more books in between, but I know that won’t be the case here! Since we’re moving TOMORROW (holy crap), I knew I wouldn’t be reading today and tomorrow, most likely. If I do find a few minutes to read, I’m sure I won’t be finishing anything. In any case! June was a buuuuusy month but I still found myself reading in my spare time before bed or in the evening. We traveled to California, which involved me reading half of one book on the first flight and then binge-watching shows instead for the rest. I finished with two books this week though so I got back on track for the GR goal, thanks to reading a lot in May. I was definitely more in the mood to read this month, for once! I managed to get back over my reading hump and finish over 10 books. This keeps me ahead on my Goodreads challenge as well. You’ll see from the breakdown below that I was SUPER addicted to my Kindle. I almost never came up for air with that thing. I’ve been going through these phases where I’ll barely read anything for multiple days, then pick up a book or two and finish them in one day/sitting. It’s very weird. I know this is partly because I got addicted to a few things… primarily watching beauty videos on YouTube. With Wrestlemania weekend happening, there were so many wrestling podcast episodes to listen to that my audio listening was weird. I did listen to bits and pieces of three this month (which is huge considering how few I’ve been listening to). I’m in the middle of an audiobook now and have a loooot of driving, commuting, and taking-a-train-into-NYC to do over this weekend. Hopefully May gets a good jump-start and this is the last slow reading month for a while! I did a pretty good job of maintaining my reading numbers for March. I finally finished some huuuuge books and got them out of the way, so that was nice. MY PLAIN JANE and OBSIDIO took up a lot of time (because of their size and because I took breaks to read other books too). I also balanced those with a few smaller, quick reads (like the four hour audiobook for DOWN AMONG THE STICKS AND BONES). I read FINDING FELICITY in a day because it was just so addicting and readable (not perfect, but good!). I enjoyed my reads this month overall but definitely pushed myself to get to 10 by the final week.
