I’m thrilled to be off to a good start on my Goodreads challenge this year. I stuck with my challenge from last year when I reduced it to 100 books. I have a good feeling about it because I’m not starting super behind like I did last year. I can fairly easily get through 8ish books per month. I managed to read enough books to meet my (lowered) reading challenge of 100 books. I definitely read some short books, novellas, and cookbooks to make it happen, but I’m proud of myself. I read all of the Christmas books I was hoping to get to except for one!      17 books read in December 17 new books  •  0 rereads  •  0 DNF Pages read: 5270 •   Average rating:  3.8 stars Sources: 9 purchased, 5 review, 1 gifted, 1 borrowed, 1 BOTM Formats: 6 mixed format, 5 hardcover, 3 egalley, 2 paperback, 1 ebook Genres: 9 contemporary, 5 nonfiction, 2 mystery/thriller, 1 fantasy Age Target: 14 adult, 3 young adult Check out my 2020 challenge sign-up post for more details, goals, etc.! I knew I had to read 15 books in November and 15 in December to stay on target for reading 100 books, but I came up a littttle short. Luckily December has some days off, slowdown at work, and holiday reads to keep me going! I’m still a little behind of the goal but I’m feeling good. I had a rough time in September as I always do, but October was only a little bit better… meaning I read ONE more book. I’ll take it though, because now I have an even thirty to read to finish the year. Yikes. Fifteen a month. I know September is always hard for me because of my birthday, anniversary, and start of football. Reading just takes a back burner. I ended up reading a good amount early in the month and then tapered off in the second half. It got to be the 22nd and I was like, good lord, I need to at least finish one more. I ended up counting a cookbook again! And a novella! I’m still behind on my challenge, but I read 6 books in August! That feels so significant to me at this point haha. I really started to feel like reading again. I just kept putting pressure on myself (before) to start my workday earlier while the puppy was sleeping before 9am, but I’ve realized that I need more balance than that. He’s getting into a better schedule, more toys/chews occupy him, and I’m able to get more work done while he’s awake now. The two-ish hours I read in the morning have been really helpful and necessary.      6 books read in August 6 new books  •  0 rereads  •  0 DNF   Pages read: 2308 •   Average rating: 3.75 stars Sources: 4 purchased, 1 review, 1 owned Formats:  [Review] 2 egalleys and 0 physical ARCs 1 hardcover, 1 paperback, 1 ebook, 0 audio, 1 combo Genres: 3 mystery/thriller, 1 contemporary, 1 paranormal, 1 hist/retelling Age Target: 6 young adult Check out my 2020 challenge sign-up post for more details, goals, etc.! 2020 Midyear Book Stats

2020 Midyear Book Stats

Usually I do a whole big fancy post about my book stats and challenge progress, but I’m not currently in the mood to go down the “wow my reading is terrible so my challenges are abysmal” path right now. Even though I’m kind of about to. My current reading spreadsheet automatically makes graphs for me (!!!) so I thought it would at least be fun to share those and look at some breakdowns…. More on the percentages and less about the numbers themselves 😉 Also, these stats are just from January through June and reflect the actual half of a year. Books Read I always say that my goal is to read 50% or LESS of contemporary fiction, and it looks like I’m doing alright this year! I’m pretty surprised by this, not gonna lie. I like the somewhat equal breakdown between other genres. Mystery/thriller being around a quarter of my reads is really nice to see. I’ve been loving those books lately! Nonfiction is only bumped because ya girl has counted cookbooks in her abysmal reading challenge! This one isn’t super surprising, as I’ve been heading more toward adult fiction lately, but it’s still kind of crazy to see that I’m almost at a 50/50 split! I hope to get as close to that as possible as the year goes on. Book Status is a weird title for the chart but it’s basically asking where the book came from or how I acquired it when I read it. I decided to reduce my Goodreads challenge to 100 books instead of 120. Now I’m still behind, but it’s much more reasonable! I just know with all of the life changes (a puppy) and lack of interest in reading during these horrible garbage times… I’m never going to catch up with 15 books behind, but I can handle being behind by a few. I’ll probably catch up later when the dog requires a little less attention and is older. We’re going camping in a few weeks and I’m hoping to get some reading in then too.      5 books read in July 5 new books  •  0 rereads  •  0 DNF Pages read: 1903 •   Average rating: 4 stars Sources: 2 purchased, 2 review, 1 borrowed Formats:  [Review] 2 egalleys and 0 physical ARCs 1 hardcover, 0 paperbacks, 1 ebook, 0 audio, 1 combo Genres: 2 contemporary, 1 mystery/thriller, 1 nonfiction, 1 sci-fi Age Target: 2 young adult and 3 adult Check out my 2020 challenge sign-up post for more details, goals, etc.! It’s funny because I keep introducing theses posts like “wow, I thought X month was bad, now check out this one!” but genuinely nothing compares to the garbage pail that was June… and I mean that literally. I read FIVE books in June which is truly an all-time low for me since blogging. So low, in fact, that I completely forgot to even write this blog post. This post was drafted and scheduled late last week, so I want to hop in now to address the fact that Black Lives Matter. I am fully in support of the protesting that’s been occurring over the past few days and think it’s imperative that we ALL fight for reform. We need major changes in this country immediately. Lol if I thought April was bad, check out May. Yes, I managed to complete 9 books… but two were cookbooks, one was a small coffee table book, and another was a graphic novel. I just couldn’t focus on reading most of the time but I finished a few books in one sitting basically. Idk what’s going on anymore. I really wanted to finish a 10th book over the weekend but spent all of my time online following and supporting the protests instead of being able to focus on books.      9 books read in May 9 new books  •  0 rereads  •  0 DNF Pages read: 2,480  •   Average rating: 4.1 stars Sources: 7 for review, 1 gifted, 1 Book of the […]
