Read-a-Thon and 2017 Challenge Sign-Ups

Before I get into the 2017 challenges I’ll be joining, I wanted to share my intent to join in with the Baby It’s Cold Outside Read-a-Thon hosted by Read. Sleep. Repeat! I have at least one more holiday book to read before Christmas so I want to make sure I fit that in… plus the many others I hope to get done for my Goodreads challenge! As I type this I’m in the middle of three books and have quite a few more to get going on. There are a few challenges along the way and I plan to participate in some of them. The first day has a TBR post and Twitter chat. There are things like teaser tidbits, page 99 test, guess the cover, book spine poetry, sharing winter reads, title scramble, and bingo challenge. You’ll see my goal and TBR post on Saturday! The time has come (the walrus said, to talk of many things…) to start signing up for 2017 year-long challenges! I decided to limit myself to only four challenges this year. I wasn’t planning on doing some of the “easy” ones (Contemporary Romance in particular) again because I finish too early when its my main genre… but then I came up with a fun twist for it. Plus I can’t resist joining in with Andi as the host! You’ll also see I decided to sign up for Flights of Fantasy again, because I want to keep expanding my horizons. Here we goooo, 2017! My […]

2016 Holiday Books & Celebration

2016 Holiday Books & Celebration

In previous years, I have really cozied up in the holiday season and done a lot of Christmassy reading. I absolutely love letting the snow fall outside and reading holiday books with a nice cup of hot chocolate. I am a very indoorsy person during the winter months, let me tell you. As always, I have to include a TBR post for this holiday season and share what I plan on doing on the blog. I like to read and review the books quickly so you may have some recommendations before it’s too late. (Most of my reviews are scheduled weeks or months out, which wouldn’t help you read holiday books during the actual holidays.) You can see past TBRs, readathons, and wintery graphics from 2014 and 2015 if you’re curious. I love featuring holiday-themed reviews that start at the end of November and end before New Year’s. I hope it gives people enough of a shot to get some last-minute holiday recommendations while they’re in the mood! I started a new holiday cheer-o-meter feature last year, where I rate the book on how much holiday-related cheer and feels it brings to the table. Some books I read are more winter-focused while others are full-on Christmas stories. I also include a little graphic to tell you quickly the holidays that are involved in the story. If you’re looking for something more specific, I’ve got you covered. In each review, I want to let you know just how holiday-oriented the story is, as well as […]

Three Things

Three Things

As you know, I sometimes steal borrow from lifestyle bloggers when it comes to more personal features around the blog. I know it’s my job to blog about books here, but I do love sharing some more info about myself from time to time! I saw this post on a new blog I started following and she grabbed it from someone else, but I ended up adding a few more of my own as well to make it a longer. Feel free to join in but share the credit around 🙂 Three things I’d never give up | Books, pizza, football This is kind of easy for me off the top of my head but there are countless other things I’d never want to do away with. I’m thinking tacos, margaritas, coffee, Friends, crab rangoon, Netflix… Ugh. And obviously I didn’t include people in this because let’s stick with the things here. Three favorite vegetables | Onions, corn, lettuce I love salad so I have to include lettuce here. Give me all the ranch dressing, please. Otherwise, I am one of those weird people who LOVES onions of all kinds – cooked or uncooked. I don’t care. I also just love corn for some reason. Veggies aren’t my favorite overall but these are my picks, dude. Three favorite fruits | Blueberries, clementines, strawberries I had to add this question in because it seemed like a no-brainer. I have to say that raspberry is my favorite fruity FLAVOR but I would pick these three actual […]

What Does a Perfect Weekend Look Like to You?

What Does a Perfect Weekend Look Like to You?

These are a few of my favorite things Sometimes I read lifestyle bloggers’ posts and wish I started that kind of blog instead. I actually have one out there in cyberspace that I don’t use because I don’t have time for two blogs. I started working on a post for 2017 on here where I talk about upcoming ~changes~ on this blog that reflect that need for more personal stuff. Don’t worry; the breakdown is probably still going to be 90% books and 10% my life. Sometimes I just feel the need to write a post and let my thoughts spill out of my head. I’m sitting here on my couch under a comfy blanket, with a holiday candle burning and football on the TV. I can’t believe it’s only 6:30PM right now; it gets dark way too early nowadays. I was convinced the early games were actually the late games and it’s really like 10 at night right now. Earlier, I made dip to eat with chips and cooked chicken drumsticks in the crockpot. We ran some errands in the morning before the 1:00PM football games. Yesterday, we went for a super long hike (got lost lol) before our end-of-year Lego club meeting. We had a lazy Saturday night where we watched countless episodes of The Office and went to bed early. The night before – on Friday- we went to Target to get some snacks for our hike and ate leftover pizza for dinner. These super lowkey weekends are perfect in […]

The Captain America Book Tag

The Captain America Book Tag

My friend Morgan created this book tag over the summer and I knew I NEEDED to partake at some point! My blog calendar has been fairly full for the past few months but is finally slowing down a little bit 🙂 This tag is the perfect post to fill in the gaps. Consider yourself tagged if you’re reading! [Header credit goes to Morgan!]   Steve Rogers/Captain America A book with a big character transformation Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver   •  This is always the book I think of for character transformations. Of course the character has to die a few times before she realizes how much of a terrible person she was before, but the growth is absolutely still there. She learned how she should have acted on a regular basis instead of being a mean girl.   Peggy Carter A book with a strong female protagonist Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas   •  I’m happy I can now use this series like everyone else! 😉 She’s not perfect, but she’s strong and badass as hell. She knows what she wants and goes after it. She really stops at nothing to protect the people she loves and herself. Just a straight up BAMF, that Celaena.   Bucky Barnes A book with your ultimate BROTP Winter by Marissa Meyer   •  I could have a lot of answers for this one because The Raven Cycle exists… but the scene with Thorne and Kai talking about girls in Winter really made my day. I’ll never forget […]

My Problems with TV (and Fall/Winter Plan!)

My Problems with TV (and Fall/Winter Plan!)

I loooove watching shows. I really used to binge-watch like nobody’s business during college because of my schedule. The earliest I had class was 9:15 sometimes and it was two days a week; otherwise I would never have it earlier than 11. This meant that from basically 9 or 10 PM until 2 AM, I would be in bed watching Netflix. I binged some of my all-time favorite shows this way, including… My binging habits changed once I moved in with Chris because (a) I obviously wasn’t staying up until 2 AM anymore, (b) I started watching shows with him in the evenings and we didn’t really binge, and (c) my laptop was really no longer used as a Netflix-watching-device and just hung around without a purpose. I recently asked for some advice about which shows I should prioritize but I have kind of failed at that too. Let’s talk about my inability to start and/or finish TV shows and how I hope to change it. TV Problems Not enough hours in the day I know everyone feels this way but there is literally not enough time every day to read, watch TV, keep a house clean, cook, go to the gym, talk to friends or spend time with them, watch movies, build Lego, etc. Work make things impossible and I hate it. I try to carve out time in the morning before work and at night before bed, but it gets divided between reading and watching. Chris goes to bed earlier […]

September Things and Autumn Bucket List

September Things and Autumn Bucket List

It’s no secret that September is my favorite month of the year. I love summertime because the weather in New England isn’t terrible and filled with snow, but the heat and humidity are not friends of mine. September means cooler weather, fall activities, and lots of life events I love – my birthday, my anniversary, football starting up again, the Big E (a New England must), other fairs and festivals, pumpkin and/or apple picking, and so many other things. This post is to share some of my goals for the rest of this month and the season ahead, wrap up some of the things I’ve done so far in September, share my birthday book haul, and talk football. Birthday Recap I didn’t post about my birthday when it happened last week (September 9th) because I had a blog tour that day. I’ve been trying to be better about saving money and budgeting so unfortunately a giveaway didn’t happen either. Regardless, Chris took the day off from work so we could hit up some of my favorite places all day… and end with my favorite food. Here’s how we celebrated throughout the week since I was on vacation all week! Earlier in the week, I went to Dave & Buster’s on half-price-game-Wednesday with my friends. We had some good food then played games all night. Chris and I have been saving our points for about a year and, even though we don’t go that often, we have over 18,000 right now. […]

The Bedtime Book Tag

The Bedtime Book Tag

Lindsey is doing weekly book tags so I decided to join in on one she recently did! The original tag was created by YouTube user Kelly’s BookSpill and can be found here. As always, if you’re reading this, consider yourself tagged! I always choose 99 Days for this category, but I wanted to showcase something a little newer! This book kept me up WAY WAY past my bedtime. I’m pretty sure I read it all in one sitting. It was really addicting even though it wasn’t that great of a book, to be honest. ♥ ReviewI binge-read this series right before I started blogging and it was amazing. A lot of people stopped after book one because it got weird, but this first one was CREEPY. I don’t read a lot of mysteries, especially murder-y ones, because I want to be able to sleep at night thankyouverymuch. ♥ ReviewUgh there are no words for how little I enjoyed this book. I shouldn’t have listened to the audio especially because falling asleep in the shower or while driving is just not ideal at all. Do not recommend. ♥ ReviewThis is tough because I have SO many books I’m excited for. I think this is the one I’m most eager for that happens to be pretty damn far away. Ally Carter always has some cliffhangers but the middle book in this series was a doozie. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this story!I have a lot of book boyfriends – as one does […]

Bookish Lego Builds: SJM and Captain Underpants

Bookish Lego Builds: SJM and Captain Underpants

As you may know, I build Lego often with my boyfriend. We collect sets, parts, minifigures, and just about any other Lego-related thing you can think of. He’s a better builder than me, for sure, but I love doing a bit of building too. I haven’t shared much of my builds yet on the blog but I’d love to start! In case you’re wondering about some Lego lingo, a “MOC” stands for “my own creation” and it basically means you built something from your own imagination, without being an actual set to follow the instructions for. The builds below are MOCs created by us for the local libraries, based on some of our favorite books. My Bookish Builds I decided to build two small vignettes of both books in the series so far. I’ll probably continue and make one for each book as the rest come out, just because these were super fun! You can see my Spring Court below, where Tamlin makes a painting room for Feyre. Down underneath is Night Court, where Rhys teaches Feyre how to read. (Sorry for the terrible lighting in the Night Court… although I guess it makes sense given the name!) A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas – Spring Court A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas – Night Court These builds were made to be featured in libraries across Connecticut over the next few months. Check this link out if you’d like to see some of the other bookish […]

Pokemon Go Book Tag

Pokemon Go Book Tag

I loved this tag when I saw it on Read at Midnight, but didn’t take the plunge until I was tagged by Lindsey at Bring My Books! I was pretty great about keeping up with this game when it first came out, but my addiction has slowed down. Alas, this is my relationship with games of all kinds. Regardless though, here’s the tag! SO FUN. I would first like to note that Squirtle is my favorite Pokemon. I think that’s important to say here. Anyways, I was a pretty big reader throughout my childhood so this is honestly a pretty tough question. I think there are some books that helped me through different stages of reading. I was a voracious reader through high school but dropped off a big in college, so there are a few formative books I see in my reading history. Some of these are… Childhood in general: Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson Elementary school, early middle school: The BFG by Roald Dahl and (duh) Harry Potter Late middle school, early high school: Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard and Private by Kate Brian “Revisiting” reading again after college: Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver I’m not a big classics person. I don’t even know which Jane Austen books I pretended to read in high school. I definitely want to revisit them as I get older because I’m hoping to have more of an appreciation for them. There are quite a few “classics” I read during school […]
