Five on Fridays #16

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! MEEP. The last one of these was done in June, and the previous one was in March. Clearly I’m not on top of things… which is fine. I resolved to do at least two or three of these for September and October, since I have MANY exciting things happening and they deserve to be talked about more than just a paragraph in my monthly wrap-up. LABOR DAY WEEKEND I had a really fantastic weekend with friends over Labor Day. My birthday (Wednesday the 9th) gave us a good excuse to all get together finally. Two of my college roommates live only 20 minutes away and we still manage to never see each other! Another lives in New Jersey and her boyfriend (also from my college friend group) lives in Rhode Island. We all got together for some bowling and drinks at this fun alley nearby. We had dinner at the lane and spent some time outside on the patio bar playing Kanjam and cornhole. It was a lot of fun and I’m really glad they pressured me to have a birthday gathering. I generally don’t like celebrating my birthday before or after the actual day; I like doing something only on my actual birthday. Overall, it was a great night. We had the two […]

Five on Fridays #15

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. It’s been quite a few months since I’ve done one of these! It’s funny because the past two months have been incredibly busy for me; I would actually have A LOT to share… if I had taken the time to write them! Without further ado, here’s a big ol’ Five on Friday update! As you probably saw in my recent end-of-month wrap-up, May was kind of intense. I usually have a very nonexistant social life because Chris and I tend to be homebodies, but we were so freaking busy in May. We had birthday parties, a jam-packed Mother’s Day, trips to Providence and Boston, a Lego event, a graduation… Yeah, it was crazy. We didn’t get a lot of time to ourselves on the weekends, that’s for sure. It was nice to mix it up a little but it would have been better to have some free time intermixed. I loved being a bit more social (which I’ll get to in my final point down there) and getting to meet bloggers at BEA (which is in my fourth point). I guess this is here just to be like, yeah, this month was insane. Yeah it’s no secret that I’m damn antsy for football. As I’ve said, its my only hobby aside from reading. We’ve been watching the NFL Top […]

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Pretty soon I’ll just have to write a post like “True Life: I’m Addicted to Football.”  I’ve talked about it quite often around the blog, but it’s really frightening how obsessive I get about this damn sport. I strongly urge you to skip over this section if you don’t care about football at all! How can you still obsess over football when they’re not even playing right now? Even in the offseason, there’s so much to focus on! After the end of regular season, you have Black Monday, where coaches get the slip and/or move on to other teams if they did a shitty job. You have the Combine, which involves college players trying to work hard enough to inevitably get drafted. Then you have Free Agency, which started this week. Why does free agency happen? When you’re a football player and sign a contract with a team, they have stipulations on the length of the contract. It could sound something like they signed a “four year, $40 million contract.” Essentially, like all contracts, that means the player is going to get lots of bucks and play there for a certain amount of time. When that time comes to an end, the team can either re-sign them before the free agency period, put on a franchise tag, OR let them […]

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. We went to Foxwoods Casino for my friend’s birthday earlier this month, and it was so much fun! We stayed at a hotel down the road that had a shuttle for the casino. Our plan was to go bowling at the “high end” bowling alley, then go to a club in the casino. There weren’t any lanes for the alley so we hung around the bar section of the bowling place and played pool for a while. Some people went off to the club for a little bit while the rest of us hung there. We ended up getting a lane and bowling for the rest of the night. It was kind of expensive, but definitely more fun (in my opinion) than going to a club. I love seeing my college friends and wish it happened more often. I’m still not completely over how generous this community is when it comes to…well, everything – but loaning ARCs especially. I tweeted out that I was looking to borrow A Court of Thorns and Roses. Within minutes, I had two offers! I’m just so grateful to people who make me feel welcomed and loved. Thanks so much to Andi, for this one in particular! I have a few more ARCs of other books that Brittany is lending me, that should be […]

Five on Fridays #12

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Snow Sucks Yeah, I hate the snow. I really do. (Despite my smiling face in the photo… It’s Black Friday for Panthers fans, so I had to tweet this dumb picture of myself in my black clothes and Panthers hat)… Driving to work this morning was fairly miserable and I hate how other people act in inclement weather. I know that we should drive slower, obviously, but there are some instances where people act a bit too cautious and make things even worse. FYI, slamming on your breaks suddenly can make you spin out and be even worse than just maintaining your speed in the snow. I am mostly frustrated because my boss lives literally less than a mile away from the office. I’m always the first one into the office because apparently I’m expected to be. So today, in the snow, I had to drive in to make sure I got there in time. I don’t get why my boss can’t just come in to open the office and answer phones while I work from home – even just until driving conditions are safe. That’s all I ask! Bout of Books I know that the point of Bout of Books is to just motivate you to read, even just a little more than you usually would. For some […]

Five on Fridays #11 and Life of a Blogger #1

This week I’ll be combining two features on my blog! plus  I write my Five on Friday post each Friday that I actually have some non-bookish updates. (My life is boring, folks.) I’ve also been wanting to join in with the Life of a Blogger meme, hosted at Novel Heartbeat, which happens on Thursday. On weeks where I don’t have a lot of updates, I’ll participate in Life of a Blogger instead of Five on Friday. It’ll just be a way for me to add some personal updates and info each week in one of two formats! This week, the Life of a Blogger topic is New Year’s, which I was going to include in my Five on Friday post anyway! (Also yes I realize it’s not Friday) New Year’s I’ve actually done a wide variety of things on New Years Eve over the past few years! When I was a kid I would just stay up late with my parents and watch the ball drop. In high school, we would go to my friend’s house every year and hang out until the ball dropped. His mom would always make us great food and one of my friends would bring monkey bread. So good. This tradition kind of fizzled out throughout college because less people would be home and some people would be hanging out with their college friends. Freshman year of college, a friend and I went to a house party and it was pretty lame actually. The rest […]

Five on Fridays #10

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Reading slump Okay. I’m going to admit it. I’m officially in a reading slump. The good news is: I know exactly what caused it! I recently developed a more comprehensive Excel sheet to make a reading schedule. It makes it easier to plan when I plan to post reviews and when I should finish books to have everything done in a timely manner. Unfortunately, this makes reading feel like homework. I should be panicking if I can’t finish a book when I’m estimating that I should finish a book! I ended up getting a book in an ARC tour that I just wasn’t in the mood to read, and I kept making myself feel bad and adjusting my schedule to accommodate it. Luckily this ARC tour, On the Same Page, doesn’t require reviews in exchange for the ARCs. I decided to just not read the book and move on. It helped free up my schedule a lot. Last night, I wasn’t in the mood to read at all. So I didn’t! It felt great. I didn’t beat myself up over it. All of my holiday reviews are done except the final two, and I have two weeks to read them. STOP WORRYING. Christmas decorations We are officially done decorating for the holidays! We strung some lights up in our […]

Five on Fridays #9

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. It’s been a while since I’ve done of these! The past two Fridays ended up being busy and I just never got around to it. Ally Ambassador I am VERY excited that I was accepted to be an Ally Ambassador! In case you didn’t know, Ally Carter (author of the Gallagher Girls series) has a new series coming out next year: Embassy Row. I didn’t even have to read the synopsis to know I wanted to read it. Her books are about spies, criminals, and now international conspiracies – so cool. The first book in the Embassy Row series is All Fall Down, and because I was one of the first 100 people to sign up, I get an ARC! Wooo-hoo. I sent them my mailing address and am anxiously awaiting my new pretty. This also means that I should probably read Heist Society, finally… Nadine West I may have an addiction called “spending money I shouldn’t on subscription/monthly boxes.” I like the concept of monthly clothing-related boxes, but I have a body type that doesn’t fit in most sizes. HOWEVER, I came across Nadine West a while back and it’s amazing! It’s the kind of box that sends you a few items and you can send back what you don’t like; only keep and pay for what you […]

Five on Fridays #8

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Lazy Sunday On Sunday last weekend, Chris and I were the laziest people on earth. We didn’t leave the apartment, except to sit on our back porch a couple of times. Our front door stayed locked all day from the night before and we hardly moved. It was AWESOME. The day before, we went to Maine to visit his sister for her birthday and spent the whole day travelling (3 hours driving up, 2 hours of time at dinner and hanging out in her dorm, and 3 hours driving home). We felt like we wasted the day because we spent 6 hours in the car. The next day we decided to waste the day in a much better way by being lazy and making the most of our free time. Normally we go to my Dad’s house on Sundays because he has NFL Sunday Ticket and we can watch my football team. Because the Panthers were on Monday night (I don’t even want to talk about how that game went), we just stayed in our apartment all day watching other football games. I took a bath, ate a lot of leftovers, browsed the internet, and just chilled. Starbucks Caprese Sandwich UMM wow. I went to Starbucks in Barnes & Noble yesterday for my lunch break because it was payday […]

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. BrickFair 2014 Last weekend, we went to BrickFair 2014 in Somerset, NJ. I luckily have a friend who lives about 10 minutes away from there, so we were able to hang out with her and her boyfriend and go to BrickFair! I was in awe of all the cool stuff people can make. It really inspired Chris to build his own creations instead of buying the premade Lego sets. They had different categories and types of builds around the whole place. They also had vendors that sold custom Lego apparel, jewelry, and figures/accessories. Chris ended up with a few sets and accessories. It was a cool experience and we’re so glad we ended up going! Balancing Everything I feel like I sound like a broken record when I talk about this, but it’s really hard! As a new blogger, I’m still trying to find a way to balance everything in my life. I spend a lot of time blogging at work, which I shouldn’t do, but I find it hard to do otherwise. I used to be addicted to using my computer, browsing the internet, and watching Netflix during college, but now I never do. I don’t want to blog when I get home. I want to pry my eyes away from the computer since I stare at it […]
