Top Ten Tuesdays #102: Beach Setting

Ten Beach Settings in Books that I Loved Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This week’s TTT is the top ten books with X setting (boarding school, England, etc.). I chose one of my favorite bookish settings – BEACH TOWNS. I was thinking of the boarding school thing but I recently talked about this since it’s one of my read-bait terms for sure.I’m usually all about the summery, beachy contemporaries during the warm months. I often save books specifically for summertime for that reason. I don’t go to the beach very much, even though there are plenty closeby, so these books are a perfect alternative for me during the summer. Fluffy contemps are perfectly fine during this time of year, but the ones that are literally set on the beach or in a beachy town location are THE BEST. Here are ten of my favorite books with beach settings. Keeping the Moon and Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen The ultimate book setting is Colby, North Carolina. I’ve never had more desire to visit a fictional place in my life. Colby appears to be the perfect little beach town and acts as the main setting for a handful of Dessen’s books. It’s referenced in a few more. NEED […]

Five on Fridays #22

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! Folks, this is a problem. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of Lularoe, but they have the literal most comfortable leggings on THE PLANET. Most people start out with just a nice black pair of leggings just to “see what the fuss is about”… and then slowly buy EVERYTHING. I don’t even want to tell you how many LLR items I currently own. I’m afraid to count and do all the math, to be honest. If you’re not sure what it is, basically it’s like the same thing as Mary Kay consultants, where people sell the clothing. All of the patterns are limited edition and only printed on 1,500-2,000 items. So basically if you love something, you need to jump on it! Hence the addiction. You can usually just shop through Facebook groups, online pop-up parties, and in-home parties. That being said… I’m having a Lularoe party on September 13th from 8-10 PM EST where I get free clothes if people buy things! Please seriously contact me if you’re interested in getting involved and I’ll find a way to send the invite your way! It has to be on Facebook. In any case, I love all my clothes lately and have spent sooo much money. I’m officially not allowed to buy any more Lula […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #101: Rewind – Covers

Rewind: Do a Topic You Missed! Things I Like/Dislike on Book Covers Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. Back in June 2014, Top Ten Tuesday featured a topic perfect for me: top ten things we like or dislike on our book covers. This topic was literally a few weeks before I started my blog and I’m so happy I just saw it! I always always always talk about book covers on my blog. (Like, too often to even link everything this time. Just search for “covers” and you’ll see an abundance of things!) Book covers are my F A V O R I T E and I don’t know if I ever spelled out in a nice, concise, list-y way the things that I LOVE or HATE on book covers. Without further ado, I’ll tackle that today for you, my dear cover lovers. Keep in mind that obviously some of these covers fit multiple categories. I tried to keep them with the category involving the “element” I love most about the cover. Like, I love the watercolor elements on First & Then but the heart shape is what really makes me happiest. I’m definitely not linking to Goodreads here because I’m lazy and there are a LOT of covers, but you […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #100: Gift Card Buying

Ten Books I’d Buy if Someone Gave Me a Gift Card Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This week’s topic is the Ten Books You’d Buy Right this Second if Someone Handed You a Fully Loaded Gift Card. I love this because I honestly don’t buy a lot of books anymore. I try to save space on my shelves for favorites and use my library a bit more. In any case, if someone were to hand me a gift card that could buy these ten books exactly, I would use it FOR SURE. I decided not to cheat and count preorders. I want to walk into Barnes & Noble and buy 10 books that are currently sitting on the shelf. PS I Like You by Kasie West / The Lake Season by Hannah McKinnon / Once Upon a Kiss by Robin Palmer A Week of Mondays by Jessica Brody / Things I Can’t Explain by Mitchell Kriegman (Whoops I actually just bought A Week of Mondays with the B&N coupon, YOLO) Smash & Grab by Amy Christine Parker / Summer in the Invisible City by Juliana Romano / Nine Women, One Dress by Jane L. Rosen / After You by Jojo Moyes / The Season by Jonah Lisa Dyer and Stephen Dyer

Top Ten Tuesdays #99: Bookish Motivation

Ten Things Books Have Inspired Me to Do Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This week’s topic is the Top Ten Things Books Have Made Me Want To Do or Learn About After Reading Them. I have actually done this topic in the past on the blog and remember having so much fun with it. (The topic was actually inspirational quotes but I had just posted favorite book quotes, so I mixed it up!) I’m excited to revisit this idea because there are plenty of other books I’ve read since then that inspired me to do things. Second Time Around by Beth Kendrick inspired me to start my read-bait blog series up again I love books about reunions and this one was no exception. Any time characters get together after spending years apart, especially if there were some big secrets being hidden… I’m all about it. This inspired me to start my read-bait series up again because I had taken quite a break from it for a while. Adventure Time Volume 1 inspired me to finally read comics and graphic novels Before Scribd changed their memberships up, I came across this comic and just randomly started to read it. It was the final push I needed before I started […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #98: Out of the US

Books Set Outside of the United States: Six to Read and Six Already Read Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. Well, this was an eye-opening TTT! I haven’t read a lot of books outside of the United States, apparently. Most of them involve someone from the US heading overseas on a trip of some kind, and luckily I have a Goodreads shelf specifically for that. I decided to split this TTT up into books I’ve read that take place outside the US and books on my TBR. Definitely link me up with yours! Wanderlost by Jen Malone /// This was such a sweet story. I read it so quickly because it was just too adorable. I shipped it reaaaal hard. I shipped it hard all over Europe. Two Summers by Aimee Friedman /// I was super looking forward to this book because I love parallel life stories, but it didn’t completely wow me. The main character goes to Paris in “one of her lives” and has a few surprises along the way. Definitely glad I read it and would definitely recommend it! Come Away With Me by Karma Brown /// Ugh this book made me uuuugly cry. Very emotional read but involves a lot of international travel as a woman moves on from […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #97: Facts About Me

Top Ten Tuesdays #97: Facts About Me

Ten Facts About Me & Non-Bookish Things I Love Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or tmy review. I absolutely loved Lindsey’s post for a TTT a few weeks ago about the things she loves aside from books, and that’s kind of what inspired me during my post today. I have a lot of bookish facts about me and confessions that I’ve posted before, so I want to switch into something more personal! I think this will be a combo of things I love and things about me. Get readyyyyyy. My number one favorite thing. Football is really my biggest hobby and I think I’ve made that abundantly clear by now. I picked the Panthers back when they joined the league and I was only 4 years old. At that time, I wanted my own team instead of following my parents and their teams (Raiders and Cowboys, respectively), so I chose a new team. I’ve stuck with them through the good and the bad, and that’ll never change. I finally went down to Charlotte to see a game in person in 2013 then again in 2015. Chris and I definitely plan to make this a yearly trip (at least) because it’s an amazing city and an even better sports team 😉 […]

Five on Fridays #21

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! So I drafted up one of these back in April and highlighted some of the makeup I was using. Of the million things I was going to show off, I currently only use THREE of the same makeup items. Holy shit, my makeup life has changed. I’ve been generally interested in watching more makeup videos (mostly reviews) because I’m sick of my skin getting oily partway through the day. I finally found a mix of skincare and makeup that really works for me. If you have oily skin, I’d recommend checking some of these things out. Let me know if you have questions!! I’m listing them below in the order in which I apply them! I’ve had a lot of planner girl fails over the past year. I always become gung-ho about something and then lose interest quickly. It’s happened with just about every type of planner so far. I always enjoyed my Day Designer from Target but ended up using it at work because of the hourly format. It also was too big to fit in my purse. (It’s light and thin but very tall and wide.) When I saw a much smaller hourly version (with an adorable flower design!!) at Target, I had to pick it up ASAP. It fits perfectly in my […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #96: Underrated

Ten Great Underrated Books with Under 2000 Goodreads Reviews & Ratings Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I decided to go with the absolute lowest number of ratings that I really enjoyed, and work my way up. There are plenty of underrated books worth reading so I’ll try to highlight some I don’t usually mention! I’m also going to try to avoid super new releases because obviously those may not have as many reviews too. These were published in 2015 or earlier. My Reviews: Three Day Summer • Class of ’98 • Aspen • Play On • Hello? • Only Everything Damsel Distressed • My Last Kiss • The One Thing • The Revenge Playbook

Top Ten Tuesdays #95: Freebie

Ten Favorite Taylor Jenkins Reid Quotes Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I had just finished the latest Taylor Jenkins Reid book when I saw the freebie topic was listed for today’s TTT. I was instantly thinking that I just needed to highlight more about this woman’s books because I have loved all of them. I mean, my least favorite of the three I’ve read I still gave 4.5 stars to! So yes, I’ve only read three of her four published books so far and I definitely plan to save Forever, Interrupted for the right day and mood. Today I’m sharing ten of my favorite quotes from her books. If you haven’t read them already, hopefully this inspires you to remedy that immediately.
