Top Ten Tuesdays #87: Bookworm Delights

Ten Bookworm Delights Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This topic was inspired by Jamie’s post on her blog recently and I have to say, it was hard not to copy all of her answers! (Don’t worry, I didn’t.) Today we’re looking at the top ten bookworm-y things that delight you or excite you in some way. I have a lot of these, as I’m sure you all do too! Here’s my list of favorite bookworm qualities or moments or other things!

Library Love | April

Library Love | April

I’ve been wanting to share some library hauls on the blog, since I don’t usually include them in my monthly wrap-ups. I just show the books I acquired for keeps instead of the ones I’m renting 😉 However, the library has been really fantastic lately. I go through phases where I use it A LOT and phases where I forget it exists somehow. Whenever the mood strikes, I’ll share what I’m working on from the library during any given month. [Linking up with Library Loot; details at the bottom] On Location by Jen Calonita /// I keep starting old series and then never finishing them. *eye roll emoji*  I’ve been aiming to reread this series and finally finish it off. Continuing with book two! Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge /// Book Buddies pick for April with Cristina! Must read ASAP. The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry /// I was instantly attracted to this one and don’t know why I didn’t pick it up at ALA. It sounds right up my alley and the library was a good place to grab it. The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury /// This has been on my TBR for a long time and I finally got it out from the library. It took forever for me to read for some reason, but I did eventually finish! Fables 1 & 2 by Bill Willingham  /// I always stare longingly at this series when I visit the graphic novel section of B&N with Chris. I finally decided the library would […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #86: LOL-Worthy

Ten Books That Will Make You Laugh Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. Today we’re sharing Ten Books That Will Make You Laugh. Have I said lately how much I LOVE my new(ish) Goodreads shelves? (Yes, Lauren, you have.) I have my laughed-out-loud shelf for this very reason. Some books are funny in and of themselves, while others just have a few lines that made me chuckle to myself. Here’s a list for when you’re in the mood to laugh! 🙂 My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows • I think this book will make it on countless TTTs until everyone I know has it on their TBR. The characters and the narrator were so funny throughout this story. It was amazing. The Way Back to You by Michelle Andreani and Mindi Scott • I remember loving the banter between the characters in this story! I don’t remember a lot of the reasons I laughed out loud, but I know there were a few moments that got a chuckle out of me. It’s a Wonderful Death by Sarah J. Schmitt • The main character had some nice sarcasm in this story 😉 Clearly that’s a favorite of mine. The writing was kind of cheesy at times – like some of the […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #85: Feminist Books

Top Ten Tuesdays #85: Feminist Books

Ten Books Every Feminist Should Read Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. Today we’re sharing Ten Books Every X Should Read (up to you! Examples: every history nerd, memoir lover, ballet lover, feminist, college student, etc etc.). This is a tough one to pin down because DAMN I am into so many of these suggested topics. However, of course, one of these hits me right in the heart. Today you shall seeeee… I decided to split this into two general sections – YA novels featuring feminist themes or badass feminist main characters, and nonfiction/memoirs. I’ve enjoyed all of the works below and think that they encompass some great feminist themes and topics; they’re informative and entertaining at the same time. (If you’d like to see some thoughts on feminism in YA and slut-shaming, feel free to check out my post on the topic!) Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate • slut-shaming, pansexuality I like when books feature more than just the more common types of sexuality. I realize that the inclusion of pansexuality in this book isn’t, in and of itself, doesn’t make it a feminist book… but I just want to point it out. It’s refreshing. Anyways, this book has a main character who is pretty empowered sexually. […]

Five on Fridays #20

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! As you know, I’m a big Lego fan with my boyfriend. We build our own stuff (called “MOCs” = my own creations) as well as collect minifigures and sets. We had seen rumors lately about a new minifigure series involving Disney characters, but it wasn’t confirmed for a long time. Well, as of the end of March, here it is! IT’S COMING FOR REAL AND I’M SO EXCITED! We’re excited to announce new #LEGO Minifigures The #Disney Series! Available starting May 2016! #LEGOMinifigures A photo posted by LEGO (@lego) on Mar 29, 2016 at 7:01am PDT I can see a lot of non-Lego collectors wanting to get their hands on these, I’m sure. I figured they would be fun to share and see what you guys think! Even if you’re not a Lego fan, would you buy these guys? Chris and I overall have some mixed feelings on the design, but are very happy they’re coming around. The biggest problem is that some of the figures here already exist as mini-dolls instead of minifigures, so it’s not consistent. But whatever, beggars can’t be choosers! 😉 In other general Lego news, we’re working on some new builds for our Lego Club. We’re planning a movie build for a competition for this month’s meeting (the 16th). Chris and […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #84: Bookstagram

My Favorite Bookish Instagram Accounts Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This week’s topic is fun! Very bookish but not totally bookish… lol. Today we’re sharing Ten Bookish People You Should Follow On Twitter/Instagram/Youtube/Snapchat/Facebook — your choice. I chose Instagram because I really enjoy looking at bookish pictures. They’re my favorite. Lisa from Lost in Literature 100% of her pictures are gorgeous. It took me forever to even narrow it down for which one to feature here. If you aren’t following her yet, she’s my #1 recommendation. {Blog} I was thinking about books that haven’t received the attention they deserve, and Love and Other Unknown Variables by @shannon_lee_alexander immediately popped in my head. I ADORE this book! It’s definitely an amazing debut that I think more people need to read. ❤️ “Simply put: time is fluid. The faster your world spins out of control, the slower time crawls. The more time you need, the less you’re sure to get. It’s all relative.” . ❔What debut do you love and feel hasn’t received the attention it deserves? ? . Top Ten Tuesdays #83: Best Recent Books

Top Ten Tuesdays #83: Best Recent Books

Best Books I’ve Read Recently (4.5 or 5 stars) Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I actually just had a post planned for last week involving a similar topic. After some adjustments, I was able to get ahead and make it this week’s TTT instead! I love being able to highlight favorite recent books because I feel like books always need love. A lot of these books are actually not even released yet, so keep your eyes peeled for them when they’re out! Hopefully you’ll add them to your early TBR list 😉 Please note that the months below show when I read the book, not its release month. After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid: This book is also one of my favorite books ever, I’d say. Just like 2015, there’s a good chance that TJR takes home the “favorite book of the year” award. I know there are still 9 more months left for some favorites to pop up… but I dunno. This one could take the cake. I absolutely love her writing style. Everything about this book was relatable – from relationship issues to spending time with family to treating yourself instead of focusing on other people for once. Even though I personally wouldn’t spend a year […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #82: Need More Love

Non-Contemporary Books I Loved but Never Talk About Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. Everyone knows that contemporary fiction – usually YA but often adult – is my JAM. Over half of my reading each year is within that genre. I love romance and swoons and summertime and fluff. That’s what I think of when I’m imagining my perfect books. Because of my love for contemporary, I am usually screaming about my favorites on the blog quite a bit. So today, I’ll be skewing the topic of “Ten Books I Really Love But Feel Like I Haven’t Talked About Enough” to just be the… Yep, today is all about anything that isn’t really contemporary fiction. Some of my other bookish interests are below, along with a couple of books I loved under each category. I’m kind of pushing my definition of “non-contemporary” here (because quite a few are essentially contemporary, but have elements of something else). Please also keep in mind that I did try to restrict it to the books that I don’t personally feel like I talk about enough. Everyone knows how much I love the Lunar Chronicles by now, so I didn’t feel like it was doing the topic justice to include that in the retelling […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #81: Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesdays #81: Spring TBR

Top Books on my Spring TBR Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I love planning out my TBRs for Top Ten Tuesday because it’s something I rarely do. I’ve already given a glimpse at the books I planned to read in March [at the very bottom of the post] and later this week, I’ll be sharing some other books I’m really excited for. This TTT helps me think of what I’ll be reading between the end of March and probably end of May. (I start my summery reads ASAP in June! I can’t resist a beachy story once the weather warms up.) Wow, I digress. HERE WE GO: So my TBR this spring is a mix of a few things. I want to focus on reading a few books that are being published this spring, because they sound super cute. (I couldn’t resist sneaking Morgan Matson’s new book on here even though I feel like it’s been on every list I’ve made for 2016 so far!) I’m also definitely planning on cranking through a few ARCs I got from ALA Midwinter, because their pub dates are coming soon (if they haven’t happened already) and I’m SO BAD about reading books I get from conferences. Can we talk about the […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #80: Characters

Characters I Couldn’t Relate To & Others May Disagree Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I’m kind of changing this topic a little bit because I really can’t think of many characters that fall under this umbrella of “everyone loves but I didn’t” or “I love but everyone else doesn’t.” I decided to take a less intense version of this and talk about the characters I couldn’t relate to, but others may have liked more than I did. I mostly enjoyed these books but the characters made me cringe or annoyed me or just didn’t resonate with me at all. Cath from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell /// I know, I know. Put down your pitchforks. I really can appreciate and understand how SO many of you love and relate to Cath. I just didn’t. She really bugged me (maybe it was partly due to the audio narrator?) and I just couldn’t get by it. Kate from Things I Can’t Forget by Miranda Kenneally /// Nearly everyone I’ve talked to about this actually DOES agree with me about Kate, but I know there are most likely some people who related to her. Her fierce religiousness and sense of right and wrong just totally didn’t work for me. I’m not good with books centered around religion, […]
