Top Ten Tuesdays #315: Thanksgiving Freebie

Thanksgiving Freebie: Books I’m Thankful For in the Shitty Year of 2020 Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. My 2020 has been quite garbage like most people, with the notable exception of acquiring the cutest puppy in the world. My reading has even been garbage. I’ve never reduced my reading challenge before but I’m down to 100 instead of 120. Quite a change for me! And even then, I’m still around 10 books behind. Every time I read a book I straight-up couldn’t put down OR reignited my love for reading (even for a brief moment!), I was extremely grateful and made sure to yell about that fact in my review. Here are ten books I’m grateful for this year – either because I cranked through them and they really helped me, or because they became new favorites. Quick Reads Date Me, Bryson Keller: “Oh man, this book was EXACTLY what I needed. I’d been struggling with reading during quarantine (and honestly was behind on my challenge BEFORE too) so Chris suggested I take a break from the book that was taking me forever and putting me in a slump, and read something quick and fun. I was able to sit down […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #314: Pet Names

Characters I’d Name a Pet After Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I’m really picky about dog names – it took us forever to think of names and we got so lucky that Miller was available… that was the one name out of the 12 puppy litter that had a name we really liked! It was easy to keep his name and deal with picking out a dog name in a later year when we get another haha. I’ve always wanted to name a dog Noodle but Chris wasn’t as into it. I’ll get my way someday! Olive /// Pepper /// Gemma I’m a big fan of food names for dogs, hence my love for Noodle as a dog name, but Olive and Pepper would make great dog names. My mom had a dog when she was younger named Pepper actually. I’m not sure I’d actually name a dog Gemma, but I love this book too much to not think of a character name that’d work for a child or dog someday haha.   Jude /// Wyatt /// Avery /// Pinky Jude because obviously. Wyatt is actually a child’s name in the second book here but it was on our list […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #313: Song Titles

Book Titles as Song Titles Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This is a fun one! I thought it would be nice to highlight a few upcoming releases that I want to read in 2021. Honestly, song titles are so all over the place that almost anything works!

Top Ten Tuesdays #312: Non-Bookish Hobbies

Non-Bookish Hobbies Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I always had trouble doing icebreakers in school because I never really felt like I had hobbies. I’d always say “reading” or “hanging out with friends” because honestly, that summed it up! I never stuck with sports or other activities through school or on my free time. This has totally changed in adulthood. It helps to have Chris around to do things with. We’ve started a ton of hobbies together and try to fill up our non-working hours with activities. Wrestling Chris and I used to spend the majority of our days watching wrestling! We’d watch RAW on Monday, Smackdown on Tuesday (we didn’t really watch anymore once it moved to Friday), NXT and eventually AEW on Wednesday, any New Japan shows, plus the PPVs for each company on weekends each month. We’ve cut back and watch virtually zero WWE these days because things are terrible, but we still keep up with New Japan and watch AEW each week religiously. We’ve attended a lot of wrestling shows over the last few years too (here’s our first year journey in wrestling fandom). Hanging out with Miller and bringing him everywhere We said if we […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #311: Halloween Freebie

Creepy Books I’ve Read Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. Yes, I’m a day late, but it’s fine. What is time? I have definitely read my share of mystery/thrillers these days but they don’t tend to be that SPOOKY. They’re usually psychological or involve some dickhead teenager playing murder games with other teenagers. There aren’t a lot of ghostly or creepy books in my repertoire. For this holiday freebie, here are some of the actually creepy books I’ve read! I’m a little bit of a baby though. HIS HIDEOUS HEART is an anthology featuring Edgar Allen Poe retellings, and many of them creeped me out! This was a really great read and perfect for October if you’re still trying to pack in creepy reads. THIS LIE WILL KILL YOU involved a bit more scary/horror elements than I expected, per my review. I don’t remember much else about the book though and didn’t rate it very highly haha. TEN is essentially a retelling of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, so I was bound to be creeped out, with murders happening left and right. I don’t think it’s cheating to include the entire DIVINERS series, right? I mean ALL of these books seriously […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #310: Recommended

Books I Read Because of a Recommendation Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I feel like, as a book blogger, at least half of the books I read are because someone I follow or respect posted about it! I find new releases through my friends adding them to their Goodreads shelves, or backlist titles because someone read it and it caught my eye. I also follow a lot of cover-related posts or “books publishing this month!” posts to find new books to read. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I definitely took the easy way out here, since I forgot to prep this post ahead of time! I googled “books with long titles” and found a longgg Goodreads list. I scrolled through and took note of some that I’ve read, as well as some that I hope to read at some point. Books I’ve Read Books on my TBR

Top Ten Tuesdays #307: Quotes

Favorite Book Quotes Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I used to be so good at recording or bookmarking quotes while reading but I’ve been pretty bad about it lately! I used to make fun graphics and happily share them when this TTT would come around again. In the interest of still sharing a TTT and being lazy, here are some I’ve made in the past that still hold true as my favorites!

Top Ten Tuesdays #306: Fall TBR

Top Ten Tuesdays #306: Fall TBR

Fall TBR Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I’m back in a semi reading slump at this point. September is looking rough numbers-wise. I shouldn’t be surprised because it’s my busiest month in my personal life (birthday, anniversary, football starting, etc.). Either way, I love planning a TBR so I have something to reference when I DO pick up a book. Fall Pub Date Review Copies I’ve had a few of these for a while (looking at you, CHASING LUCKY), but have been so so lazy about reading books far in advance. I usually try to mix it up by reading books that allow me to schedule reviews months in advance but alas. WELL PLAYED and SNAPPED are sequels in companion series. SIMMER DOWN sold me with that super cute cover and food truck plot! And, of course, I don’t even know what LOVE YOUR LIFE is about but you know my fingers press “request” on every new Sophie Kinsella. Upcoming Fall Releases A few more sequels/companions here (LOVE & OLIVES, THE TEA DRAGON TAPESTRY, and DEAR JUSTYCE) that I’m super duper excited for! INSTANT KARMA is the first straight-up contemporary (okay, there’s a touch of magical realism) Marissa Meyer book […]
