Top Ten Tuesdays #247: Cover Redesigns

Cover Redesigns I Love Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I have had such a busy week that I forgot I didn’t pre-write this post! I usually do TTTs a bunch at a time, for the month or whatever, and I got halfway through the day and realized my post had two words on it. OH WELL. Here’s a quick roundup of some of my favorite cover redesigns! Summer trilogy by Jenny Han The Start of Me and You redesign and matching The Map From Here to There by Emery Lord   Allllll the Katie Cotugno books! Little Blue Envelopes duo by Maureen Johnson Prince Charming (formerly Royals) and matching Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins

Top Ten Tuesdays #246: Freebie – Amazon

Favorite Amazon Purchases of 2019 So Far Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I decided to go non-bookish with this TTT! I hope you don’t mind 😉 I thought it would be fun to do a round-up of my top ten favorite purchases from Amazon so far this year, now that we’re over halfway through. I do monthly posts including my purchases from the month but they’re never exclusive to Amazon. Here we go! Reusable makeup remover bamboo cotton rounds I love these! I used microfiber towels before, which were nice, but these work way better with my facial oil. I remove my face makeup with the oil, wet one of these rounds, and then use it to remove the oil and makeup from my face. There’s 16 of them so you can use them for a few weeks straight, one per day, without having to wash them ASAP because you ran out. Ear hooks for headphones I bought a pair of these over a year ago and they got smashed in my purse, so I bought a new pair. These are amazing for me. Headphones (like the Apple ones) don’t fit correctly in my ears and constantly fall out. These […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #245: Settings

Settings I’d Like to See More (Favorite Settings!) Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I made a super quick list in my head when drafting this post and realized that I really just went ahead and listed my favorite settings. The topic is technically about settings I’d like to see MORE of, and a few of these are fairly popular ones, but still – I’d love to see more of my favorite settings too of course! 😉 Here are some of my favorite settings and/or ones that I don’t see enough and need more of! Boarding School I’m huuuuge fan of books set in boarding school. Yes, I chose a Zoey 101 gif because who didn’t want to attend PCA with them?! Good lord, that was the best show. ANYWAYS I’ve talked about my love for boarding school or private school settings a lot, with recommendation lists and read-bait posts, and could ALWAYS use any and all books set in boarding school. I do feel like it stems from that desire we all had as kids to live at a boarding school with a bunch of other people our age, living on a campus away from parents long before college. Beach […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #244: Auto-Buy Authors

Adult Fiction Auto-Buy Authors Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I’ve talked about my usual auto-buy authors over and over again, so I thought I would focus specifically on the ones who are writing “adult” fiction instead of my usually-stacked-with-YA list! I tried to go with people whose books I genuinely have bought or requested immediately when I saw they had a new release coming. Some are newer to me and some are tried-and true. Either way, you can bet your ass these authors’ new books end up on my TBR right away!    Taylor Jenkins Reid Jenny Hale Bethany Chase   Annie Rains Karma Brown Nicola Moriarty Liane Moriarty Helen Hoang Sophie Kinsella Beth Kendrick

Top Ten Tuesdays #243: Characters

Recent Favorite Main Characters Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This week is a character-related freebie, so I thought I’d share some of my recent favorite main characters I’ve read about! I have a Goodreads shelf specifically for main characters I wish I was friends with, so that helps me here quite a bit 😉 Naomi, Claire, and Audrey from The Central Park Pact series by Lauren Layne Olive from The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren Alex and Henry from Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston Kristen from The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez Sweetie from There’s Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon Poppy from Fumbled by Alexa Martin Kailyn from Meet Cute by Helena Hunting   Millie (and friends) from Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins Nikolai, Nina, and Zoya from King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo Babe from Small Town Hearts by Lillie Vale

Top Ten Tuesdays #242: Childhood Faves

Top Ten Tuesdays #242: Childhood Faves

Late Childhood Favorites Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This week’s topic is “childhood favorites.” I have quite a few of those, of course, but I thought it would be more fun to include some of my later-in-childhood favorites, like the series I read in middle school and high school. I talk about them from time to time on the blog, but a round-up is even better. The Clique series by Lisi Harrison This was one of my earlier forays into mean rich girl books… but at least this one was slightly more age-appropriate. I remember reading this series and starting in a similar age range to the girls it featured. I did kind of grow out of the series later, but I would be super fascinated to go back and reread/finish this series up! Gossip Girl + The It Girl series by Cecily von Ziegesar I loved GG and hated what they did to the TV version (of course I still watched it all). I also highly enjoyed the spin-off series featuring Jenny as well. I feel like these are such classic books for people in my age range. Even my friends who aren’t really ~readers~ wanted to get their […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #241: Summer TBR + Bucket List

Books On My Summer 2019 TBR Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I wrote a post like this back in 2016 to share my bookish and personal summer goals, as well as my summertime TBR for the year. I always enjoying working on seasonal TBR posts each year and bucket lists specifically for autumn, so why not do a big ol’ post for this summer? Because of the nature of this TTT, I figured I’d kick the post off with my TBR list instead of my goals / bucket list, just in case you’re only here for the books 😉 All of these are summer-ish books that hopefully take place near a beach or lake or ocean or someplace WARM. The Summer House by Hale | Review copy, able to use for challenges The Summer House by McKinnon | Able to use for Popsugar (two books with same title) Boys of Summer by Brody | Owned book foreeeeeever and need to read!   Summer of ’69 by Hilderbrand | Gimme this timeframe for historical fiction always Summer by the Tides by Hunter | Family-oriented summer vacation book It Happens in the Hamptons by Peterson | Gimme all the rich people Hamptons books! Top Ten Tuesdays #240: Upcoming Releases

Most Anticipated Releases of the 2nd Half of 2019 (that I don’t currently have review copies of) Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I always like to do this post excluding my review copies, because I can’t necessarily anticipate them to the same extent if I HAVE them already, right? Here are the TWENTY-NINE WHOOOOPS books I’m most excited about for 2019 that are not currently in my possession! As usual, I’m including a tiny snipped of the synopsis that made me add it to my “jazzed up for this” Goodreads shelf – the selling point or the Lauren-bait. July The Last Book Party by Dukess | “A propulsive tale of ambition and romance, set in the publishing world of 1980’s New York and the timeless beaches of Cape Cod.” Me Myself & Him by Tebbetts | “this story of parallel time lines cleverly explores how our choices can change and shape us–as well as the ways in which choices don’t change the core of our being at all.” The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Waxman | “but she isn’t convinced real life could ever live up to fiction. It’s going to take a brand-new family, a persistent suitor, and the combined effects […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #239: Unpopular Opinions

Top Ten Tuesdays #239: Unpopular Opinions

Unpopular Bookish Opinions & Habits Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I’m always on the fence about the whole “unpopular opinions” thing. People go wild with this stuff on Twitter sometimes and I don’t get it. Many times people are just using it as an excuse to be rude, other times people’s opinions aren’t actually unpopular… I don’t know. It’s not my cup of tea usually and I do a terrible job of even coming up with thoughts on this, but here we go anyways. 1. Love triangles aren’t that bad. I don’t go out of my way to read books about love triangles, generally speaking, but I don’t avoid them either. I fully understand what it’s like to be in a relationship in high school and then feel the pull elsewhere for various reasons. I genuinely feel like they’re a normal part of human existence and I think many books reflect that experience well. 99 Days is easily the best love triangle-ish book I’ve read and paints the most honest, logical picture of that kind of situation. Sorry not sorry. 2. I don’t mind cheating in books either. I know this is another hot topic that people often hate reading […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #238: Fave Genre

Top Ten Tuesdays #238: Fave Genre

Books from my Favorite Genre: Parallel Lives/Time-Oriented Books Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. It’s no secret that I love contemporary fiction more than any other genre… but I feel like I’ve talked about those favorites over and over again at this point! My favorite sub-genre are books about parallel lives, parallel universes, and anything involving something weird happening with time. I’m not the hugest time travel fan, compared to other elements of manipulating time for books, but the Groundhog Day trope is an example of something weird and time-y happening. Anyways! I’m here today to talk about primarily parallel lives/universe books and give you my top favorites. Pivot Point and Split Second by Kasie West This one is a dual timeline book, but also involves special paranormal powers from the main character. The story alternates between the two lives she might live when her parents get divorced: one version of her chooses her mom inside the special compound and the other chooses living with her dad in the real world. She can also see and live through both decisions, in order to see the best outcome, as her power. (The second book alternates between two POVs – her and her friend […]
