I like staying up and spending time with friends, but the idea of a new year as a fresh start just doesn’t resonate with me. Maybe I’m just cynical or something, but it’s just how I feel! I’m not knocking it if you put stock in it – believe me! I like the idea of setting goals in January because it gives you a concrete timeline of when to finish them. So with that in mind, here are some things I hope to do or maintain in 2016! Check back tomorrow to see some reading challenge-related goals! I’m actually impressed I got this down to twelve books, because I ended up cutting out most of the debuts that I’ve already featured. I chose six books from authors I’ve previously read and six books from authors that are new to me (debut or non-debut). This was a hard list because my TBR-unreleased shelf on Goodreads is getting crazy. Stars Above by Marissa Meyer | February | DUH I NEED THAT EPILOGUE RIGHT NOW. Who gets married?! It could reasonably any of them, but I’ll be hyped it if it’s Cinder and Kai. Not sure why, but I feel like they need to do it first. When We Collided by Emery Lord | April | If I’m being totally honest, this is the number one book on this list. I just reaaaally need another Emery Lord book in my life right away. I tend to give my dad an Amazon wishlist full of books and he goes by that for 98% of my Christmas shopping. I think last year he gave me every book except two. This year, my list-making for him was a little harder. I chose 10ish books for my TBTB Secret Santa list, as well as the 46 on my wishlist for my Secret Sister. Believe me, I’ll be cutting that list down for next round because it left me with not a lot of options for Christmas! I asked my family for some older releases or books that somehow weren’t on other lists. Here are the top ten books I’d like for Santa to bring me this year! I’m going to include all of my five-star reads here (obviously) but will also throw in some 4-4.5 if I see fit. Because this is my list and I’ll do it however I want! So there. The topic this week is obviously the top ten books you’ve read this year. You can do it in just 2015 releases, overall, by genre, etc. You know me – I’m going to combine things. I decided to split this into a few categories but there are still waaaaay more than ten books here. Sorry, I don’t feel too bad. I have a non-YA and a YA category of 5 star reads. Top New-To-Me Favorite Authors I Read For The First Time In 2015 Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. I decided to go with nine here because I realized (a) my books are organized with three per graphic and I’m picky about keeping things even and (b) I realized my first Kody Keplinger book was in 2014 so I had to eliminate her. Regardless, these nine authors became auto-buys – lots even after just one book! There are a few other where I just BINGED series and/or entire published works by them. I have a specific notebook for it, but get so lazy 🙁 I actually posted about my all-time favorite book quotes back in April of this year AND shared a few favorite friendship quotes for the Love-a-Thon, so I’m definitely going to try to make this list without repeats. Here are some great ones from the past few months! We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach | I love this one because I think it’s just SO true for us as readers! It also seems pretty perfect for this post. I love reading books that open me up to new ideas, but it’s even better when I find one that puts to words all of the things I’ve always felt. This week’s topic is the top ten book-to-movie adaptations I’m looking forward to, or the adaptations I still need to watch. As usual, I’ll be combining both topic ideas because I can never resist it. I’m not the best at keeping up with adaptations but I will usually seek out movies if I’ve read the book. This topic actually required quite a bit of research! Thank you, Google. Despite the fact that these are two of my favorite books, I still haven’t seen the movies. I decided I wanted to reread Paper Towns by John Green right before seeing the movie, and of course I haven’t gotten around to that yet. The DUFF by Kody Keplinger, from what I’ve heard, is absolutely nothing like the book. I’m a bit disappointed but I’ve heard that you can move past that issue and enjoy the movie nonetheless. This week’s TTT is about debut authors and their sophomore novels, which can be taken in two directions: debut authors that have me itching for their sophomore novel, or debut authors whose second book didn’t disappoint. I ended up only thinking of one real solid example for the second category, so I couldn’t resist including it. Otherwise, here I have eight debut authors’ books I LOVED and need their second book ASAP.
