Top Ten Tuesdays #49: Book Nerds

Ten Eight Characters Who Are Fellow Book Nerds Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. So, I’m pretty terrible about remembering book details after I finish the book. Something like “the main character is a big reader” would not stick with me in most cases. So, with that alert in mind, here are EIGHT (whoops) books with characters who are book nerds… as far as I can remember: The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord… because of Quiz Bowl and Pride & Prejudice references Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan… because of The Strand Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell… because of the comics shared on the bus Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell… because of the fanfiction and Simon Snow Kissing in America by Margo Rabb… because of the romance novels read by the MC Between the Pages by Jodi Picoult and Samantha van Leer… because of the fairy tale Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon… because she has nothing to do but read all day Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller… because she always carried a book when she moved

Top Ten Tuesdays #48: Diversity

Ten Books That Celebrate Diversity/Diverse Characters (Examples: minority/religious minority, socioeconomic diversity, disabled MC, neurotypical character, LGBTQ etc.) Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. Like a lot of people, I want to read more diverse books! I can’t lie, though – I’m not always successful and I don’t always make it a priority. I honestly don’t think about it too much and I’d like for that to change. I have read a decent number of books recently that fall under the general “diverse” category, but there are still quite a bit on my TBR! I’ll be sharing both here. The One Thing by Marci Lyn Curtis | blind main character Ah, I loved this book. If someone were to ask me to recommend #QuietYA, this book would be one. It comes out in September but it’s definitely worth mentioning now. I’ve seen some great reviews, so I don’t think I’m the only one who loved it! What a touching story, centered around a main character who goes blind from meningitis complications. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell | two diverse main characters | review Woo, lots of diversity in this one I feel like! The book takes place in the 80’s and follows around – obviously – Eleanor and Park. Eleanor comes […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #47: Stacking the Shelves

Last Ten Books That Came Into My Possession Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I love that this is basically the TTT version of Stacking the Shelves, a meme I love creeping on but don’t participate in… Here are the last ten books that came into my possession and how I acquired them! I love these easy topics. From Around the World ARC Tours I sent Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy back already, but I read it and it was fantastic. I also finished The Lies About Truth by Courtney C. Stevens, which was awesome. I’m currently reading The Heartbreakers by Ali Novak but am not completely sold. I can’t lie, I’ve been skimming a little bit… And up next is Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. From the Library I requested Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli and The Queen of Bright and Shiny Things by Ann Aguire and they came in last week. I hope I get to them before they’re due back, but no promises. I also checked out This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner, but haven’t gotten around to it either. I’m so bad with library books but it doesn’t stop my addiction! (Also pictured is my current audiobook series binge-read…) From Amazon I preordered […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #46: Hyped Books

Top Ten Hyped Books I’ve Never Read (Newer Releases I Plan to Read or Won’t Read) Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I feel like I’ve done some similar posts to this one before! I’ve decided to do a little twist on this one, and make it the top ten hyped new releases (within the last 6 months or so) that I haven’t read yet – and whether or not I think I’ll ever read them! I always add the hyped books to my TBR but never seem to be in the mood to read them. I have a feeling that a lot of them will slip by me and I’ll never read them, but there are some I’m definitely still interested in getting to at some point. Everyone seemed to be super excited for these two before their release! I actually even started to listen to an audiobook of The Wrath and the Dawn, but ended up quitting. I wasn’t really into the story and had a hard time keeping track of the characters. I will probably try this one again at some point, but I’m not sure! I’ll definitely need to read the print copy if I do. I preordered An Ember in the Ashes when there was a […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #46: Best of 2015 So Far

Top Ten Twenty Books I’ve Read So Far in 2015 Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. So we’re halfway through the year, and I’ve read 88 books. To put that in perspective, I read 91 books total in 2014. It’s hard to keep track of what I had for breakfast, let alone all the books I read this year. Most of these books I totally thought I read last year, so there are a bit more than expected… I tried to keep this list as SMALL as possible but its not easy. Here are the top 20 books I’ve read so far in 2015! (Yikes.) Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway | I think this may be my favorite book so far of the year. It’s hard to say (and I’ll probably say this again a few more times on this list…), but I just got so many feels from this book. It’s so well-rounded, with romance, friendship, and family. I can’t sing its praises enough. The One Thing by Marci Lyn Curtis | This book definitely caught me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting to love it so much, but it was pretty amazing. It doesn’t come out until September but I would mark your calendars. I have a feeling this […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #45: Best of TTT

Ten Favorite TTT Topics Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. (Top Ten Favorite TTT Topics I’ve Done Since Starting Bookmark Lit) The topic for this week reads, “In honor of 5 years of Top Ten Tuesday ( our first Top Ten Tuesday debuted June 21, 2010) — My Ten Favorite Top Ten Topics We’ve Ever Done In The Past 5 Years.” Because this is my 45th TTT since starting my blog, I’m going to give you my favorite TTTs that I’ve done since starting with this meme. I tried to choose some of the more unique topics, or the ones I thought I did really well. I generally love the TBR topics that pop up throughout the year, but they happen so often that I don’t feel like I can list them as favorites. I also avoided the “freebie” weeks because isn’t it kind of cheating if I invented the topic myself? 😉 Regardless, here are my favorite TTTs that I’ve participated in and why! Top 10 Inspirational Book Quotes  Things That Books Have Inspired Me to Do [#36] I had just posted my own list of favorite book quotes, so I changed up the topic a little for this one. I really enjoyed this TTT because it featured […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #44: Summer TBR

Top Ten Tuesdays #44: Summer TBR

Ten Books on my Summer TBR for 2015 Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. The TTT from a few weeks ago included books I plan to throw into my beach bag this summer, so I’m going to give you a brief recap of what those books were (series/duologies represented by the first book’s cover): Aaaaand as usual I have more than 10 here, but I couldn’t resist… Everyone knows my extreme love for Dissonance by Erica O’Rourke, so obviously I am VERY excited to get my hands on Resonance when it comes out! I absolutely love that world and can’t wait to see how it all ends up. Even though I wasn’t super thrilled with Get Even by Gretchen McNeil, I DEFINITELY need to know what happens next with that ending. Get Dirty comes out this summer and I want it. And, last but not least, Maybe In Another Life by Taylor Jenkis Reid sounds phenomenal. I have Under the Lights by Dahlia Adler for review, so I plan to read that and its predecessor (Behind the Scenes) at some point this summer. I’m excited for Anne & Henry by Dawn Ius as well, despite some of the early reviews. I’m on the blog tour for Never Always Sometimes by […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #43: Anticipated

Ten Most Anticipated Releases For the Rest of 2015 Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I’m doing this list without the books that I currently have ARCs of. Obviously Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is high on my list, but that baby is currently waiting to be read in my stack of books from BEA! Without further ado, here are ten books I’m really excited for. Because I need to know what happens next…    Firewalker by Josephine Angelini | I requested this one, so I’m hoping toget my hands on it earlier. After that ending in the previous book, I’ve pretty much been dying to read this one. Get Dirty by Gretchen McNeil | Honestly I didn’t even like the first book that much, but the ending definitely kept me interested. I’m determined to find out who is behind everything. Resonance by Erica O’Rourke | I LOVED DISSONANCE SO MUCH. I had a little sneak peek back into the world through the novella that came out a few months ago, but I am dying for this book. Easily my most anticipated book this year. Because these are read-bait for me…    Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid | I haven’t read her other books (yet), but […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #42: Movies & TV

Top Ten Tuesdays #42: Movies & TV

Ten Books I’d Love to See as Movies or TV Shows Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I’m sure I’m not the only person that would love to see Lara Jean, her family, and those adorable boys on the big screen. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and PS I Still Love You by Jenny Han would be so freaking cute as movies. It would also give some well-deserved main character screen time to Asian American actresses! Even though I wasn’t a fan of When by Victoria Laurie, I could see it being a pretty interesting movie! There would definitely be a few things I would change, but the overall concept is too cool to pass up. I’m really bad at “dream cast” types of posts, so  I can’t really begin to think of who I would want in this movie, but I’m sure there are plenty of options. This wasn’t a blockbuster book so I doubt it would gain movie attention, but again the premise is really awesome. I could totally see it on the big screen. I loooooved Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway. So much. There have been quite a few contemporary YA books-turned-movies, like The Fault in Our Stars and the upcoming All the Bright […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #41: Beach Reads

Ten Books I Plan To Have In My Beach Bag This Summer Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Links go to Goodreads or my review. I LOOOOVE THISSS TOPICCCCC *twirls* For real though, my favorite time of year for reading is SUMMERTIME. I save allll of the beachy, road trip, summery contemporary books for June, July, and August. These types of books are my favorite and I make sure I read them when the weather matches! Reading on the beach, outside, on my porch, by the pool, in the pool – you name it, I’m there. Reading. All summer. DAMN why did I change my career ideas to something year-round, 9-5? Someone go back and punch high-school-Lauren in the head. Check out my summery shelf on Goodreads and my summer book recommendation list (pardon the formatting and ugliness – it’s an old post. Also you will not be surprised to see that I have more than ten books on this list… duh. If you haven’t read The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy by Jenny Han, I’m not sure what you’re waiting for! …well, unless you have an aversion to love triangles. I binge-read this series maybe 3 summers ago and have wanted to revisit ever since. […]
