Currently [11/21/17]

I’ve done a few Currently posts on the blog before but never really loved how they came out or the categories I chose. We’ll see how I do these going forward, but I’m drawing from Jamie’s recent Currently list of topics right now (with a few changes/additions)! Thanks girl ?  Also yes I realize this is posted on 11/22 but the answers to the questions are from 11/21. Currently reading: Haunting the Deep by Adriana Mather and Perfect Scoundrels by Ally Carter. I haven’t been doing a great job of reading lately for various reasons but I’ll be back ahead on my GR goal once I finally finish these two! Currently listening to on audiobook: I’m in the process of finishing The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin for book club. I probably won’t start up another one until we’re home again for Christmastime and I have a commute again. I just don’t make the time to listen as much anymore! Currently listening to: Podcasts take up the majority of my listening time, in the shower or walking around the grocery store. I’m also definitely in the middle of my Christmas music binge! Currently eating: Nothing at the moment but we’re having an office lunch sometime soon. Currently in the process of figuring out where we want to order from. Currently drinking: Odwalla Caramel Apple Cider smoothie thing. I grabbed a couple of these at the store yesterday for workday snacks and this one is interesting. I can definitely taste the […]

The Currently Reading Shelf

The Currently Reading Shelf

There are so many awesome posts out there about being a book polygamist vs. book monogamist, and I LOVE them. Everyone’s reasoning for one over the other is fascinating to me and I will always read your posts on the subject. This is not exactly a post about reading multiple books at once. This is about that “currently reading” shelf on Goodreads. I have to say, I am anal retentive about keeping that shelf nice and clean.  For me, the “currently reading” shelf consists of the books I am legitimately currently reading. I’m always reading one audiobook and one “real” book. Sometimes I read one physical copy, one ebook, and one audiobook. So at the most, my shelf is only going to have 3 books on it. I keep my “currently reading” shelf very tidy and up-to-date. If I haven’t picked the book up in a while or am thinking of quitting it, it’s off the shelf ASAP. Sometimes I start a book I want to read… and then something comes in from an ARC tour, or I realize I didn’t give myself enough time to finish it before a blog tour review is due. If I’m already reading a physical copy and an audiobook, I likely won’t keep a third book on there (unless I have an ebook going at the same time – which happens sometimes). I can’t handle the idea of having very old books on there. If you’re a reader who can pick up a book, start it, and then let it sit for months or even years […]

Currently – 7/9/15

Lots of lifestyle bloggers share posts about things they’re currently up to: things they’re feeling, stuff they’re working on, and even what music they’re listening to at the moment. (I also love the “what I’m doing now” tag on Instagram!) I’m taking a cue from them and giving you a slice of my life. my pedicure after work. It’s not exactly NEEDED or anything, because my previous one from a few months ago is actually in good shape… But I just really need the massage chair. I won’t lie, I would literally sit in that chair all day instead of even get anything done to my toes/legs. not any work, that’s for sure. We have so many things in process right now and it’s not leaving me with a lot of actual THINGS to do at work. Since I’m a recruiter, we do a lot of waiting around for people to respond to us, companies to give us feedback, and interviews to happen. I’m definitely in a spot right now where I can do nothing but wait. raspberry lemonade. I love this shit. Simply Lemonade makes the best drinks and their raspberry kind is the absolute best. I bought a container to leave in the fridge at work for the next week or two! Chinese food. My friend and I met up for lunch at the Chinese restaurant down the road. We had to discuss some Jack & Jill plans for my friend’s wedding coming up! We surprisingly don’t have a […]

Currently… April 21, 2015

I follow a number of lifestyle and cooking blogs (like here and here) and always love reading their posts about what they’re currently up to: things they’re feeling, stuff they’re working on, and even what music they’re listening to at the moment. (I also love the “what I’m doing now” tag on Instagram!) I’m taking a cue from them and giving you a slice of my life whenever I feel like it. the NFL schedule release, tonight at 8pm! We already know who is playing who, but we finally get to find out when they’re playing the games! My family and I are planning a trip to Dallas to see the Cowboys vs. Panthers game, so knowing the schedule will help better plan our trip out there! what to do during my lunch break. My mom gave me some pepperoni bread last night and I brought some in for work, but I know I’m going to need a little bit more to eat. I have to go get groceries and go to Five Below for some organizational things during lunch but I don’t know how much time I’ll end up having. some resume sourcing for work, although I could be focusing on that a little bit better… I have absolutely NO desire to work anymore. As a recruiter, I spend most of my day searching for candidates, calling them, interviewing them, and then doing the process all over again. I have countless tabs open of people’s LinkedIn profiles at the moment. water, water, […]

February TBR

February TBR

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. February TBR January got a way from me even though the month felt like 5 months packed into one! I definitely used the final two weeks of the year to binge-read the Crescent City series so I know I didn’t read as much to start the year as I would have preferred, but I’ve got like six novellas to read in February so I’m sure I can make up for it! Egalleys   I got derailed on egalleys in January because of my commitment to reading Crescent City lol. I plan to catch up with CANADIAN BOYFRIEND and THE HEIRESS this month for sure. I have FINLAY DONOVAN ROLLS THE DICE waiting on my Kindle as well as THE OTHER LOLA. Romance for February I plan to read, if I can, all six novella in the IMPROBABLE MEET-CUTE collection this month, especially during a couple of romance read-a-thons and Valentines Day weekend. These feature some of my favorite authors and one new-to-me author. They have ebooks and audiobooks, which is even better! Owned and Preordered   THE WRITING RETREAT and TRUE CRIME STORY have been on my immediate TBR for many months […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #438: Bookish Goals

Bookish Goals for 2024 Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I wrote my usual bookish resolutions and goals post a few weeks ago but thought I’d highlight five major categories and two specific goals in each. Some may be repetitive from that post but I hope (for the most part) to share a few things I really hope to accomplish this year! General Reading Read 100 books // I had some down years from 2020-2022 and read less than I have in a long time. I finally felt rejuvenated in 2023 and managed to read 115 books (my goal was 80 books). I decided to challenge myself this year to reading 100 books, since I managed to exceed that last year, but also didn’t want to make it too much of a stretch. Focus on Netgalley books and get my ratio up to 75% // I’m currently at 69% and am being incredibly picky about what books I request on there. They really have to be top, highly anticipated reads! I want to, as always, try to read books in the same month they come out (or well before!). I know that there are a lot of backlist reads on there that […]

2024 Resolutions and Goals

2024 Resolutions and Goals

I’ve been making these posts ALMOST every year since starting my blog (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023). I’ll do a quick check-in on how I did for 2023’s goals at the bottom but dive into my plans for 2024 first. Stay on track or ahead of my Goodreads challenge | I like to keep this one for obvious reasons. I’m still debating about what I want my Goodreads goal to be for the year though. I easily surpassed 80 books this year and will be finishing around 116. Do I move it up to 100? Based on another goal you’ll see in a second, I’m on the fence about increasing quantity. Keep up Instagram stories about TBRs and completed reads | I did a good job of this in 2023 and want to also keep it up. I adjusted the verbiage because I like to share monthly TBRs and reviews but only occasionally share current reads. Read my 24 in 24 | I pulled together the 24 books I want to read in 2024, which I’ll be sharing on the blog soon. It’s heavily backlist titles I wanted to read this year but I gave myself a few “freebies” of anticipated 2024 releases as well. Read bigger books | One of the main reasons I don’t know if I want to majorly increase my Goodreads goal is because I really want to read big books I’ve been putting off. I plan to start the Crescent City series (hopefully in January) […]

November & December TBR (Non-Holiday)

November & December TBR (Non-Holiday)

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. November and December – EOY TBR Not Including Holiday Books As you may know, I usually combine my November and December TBRs into one post that excludes all of the holiday books I plan to read (that post comes separately). I have a bunch of books I’d really like to read before the end of the year, and try to mix those in amongst some holiday romances across both months. Just easier than making distinct TBRs for both months since I never really know where the books will land! Non-Holiday ARCs: Late and Upcoming These are three romances I’ve been so excited to read and have ready to go on my Kindle! I definitely thought I would have read THE WAKE-UP CALL the moment I got it but for some reason I keep back-burnering it. (To be fair, it has some holiday elements but I’m keeping it in this post because I don’t think it’s truly Christmas-forward compared to others.) RAIDERS OF THE LOST HEART was one of my most anticipated reads so I’m thrilled to have that one. I also grabbed SKIP TO THE END via audio on Libby so fingers […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #426: Reading Goals

Reading Goal Progress Before EOY Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I always write a post discussing my reading goals for the year so it’s fun to reflect back on that list now that we’re heading into the final quarter of the year! I also wrote recently about how I hope to finish up my reading challenges in the end of the year and certain books or series I hope to read. 2023 Goal Check-In Stay on track or ahead of my Goodreads challenge Knocked this one out of the park. I finished my Goodreads challenge of 80 books in August. I’ve had a renewed sense of energy for reading this year! It’s been lovely. It also takes a little pressure off for the final months of the year. I’m reading some bigger books, fantasy books, and others that I would usually put off because they’d take me too long to read. Keep up Instagram stories about current and completed reads I’ve also kept up with my Instagram reviews! I love sharing monthly TBR plans, wrap-ups, reviews, midpoint check-ins, and more. I’m very pleased with this. Read 1-3 owned (physical) books per month Okay I had to track this down. 1-3 […]

October TBR

October TBR

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. October TBR I was hoping to catch up on library books in September because I spent most of August reading my ARCs. I didn’t totally succeed at that but I was able to return some books I knew I wouldn’t read, as well as read two of them (KOA and DROWNING). I have a more manageable stack of books now. Series October As I mentioned, the past two months have been ~themed~ reading months for my TBR and the same is going to happen here. There are two major series I hope to read in October that I have been thinking about all year. Here they are:   I absolutely loved the CARAVAL series but for some reason kept putting off her companion series, ONCE UPON A BROKEN HEART. The final book in the trilogy comes out in October, so I thought it would be the perfect time to binge read all three books in a row. I have the first two and preordered the final one, plus the audiobooks are on Scribd. The other series (this one has four books) I’m hoping to fully bang out in October is THE NATURALS. […]
