Behind the Screen: A Book Blogger Tag

I caught this making its away across the blogosphere and was tempted to join in, but then Madalyn made my life easier and tagged me! This was created originally by Amber @ Du Livre. When did you start blogging and what was your first review? I started blogging on July 16, 2014 and my first review was for We Were Liars. I did not enjoy the book, to say the least! My first non-review post happened on the same day (because I was a bit intense when I got started) and was for my Top 10 Summer Reads. I think that’s pretty indicative of my reading preferences! Who/what inspired you to start blogging? I remember reading Before I Fall back in July 2014 for the first time and having so many thoughts about it. I was scrolling through some of the reviews on Goodreads (before finishing the book, whoops) and noticed a lot of people had links that said “for more thoughts, go to X blog here!” and I was intrigued. I always wanted to blog (I had so many failed ones back in the day) and it truly had never occurred to me that reading/books would be a blogging topic. It wasn’t my first review because I started the blog when I was in the middle of reading it, but still – this book and some of the Goodreads reviewers inspired me! What is a blog-related goal you have? I’m really not sure because my blog has changed so much over […]

101 Things in 1001 Days

101 Things in 1001 Days

The Day Zero Project made it on my radar a few years ago when I started following Stephanie’s blog, Not Entirely Perfect. This project is where you make a list of 101 goals to complete in 1001 days, which is just under 3 years (2¾ years). It’s fun to plan out the goals you think you may have over that time frame because you can mix in easy one with more difficult long-term ones. So, I did make a list at the time and did… somewhat okay… with a lot of the goals. I ended up quitting because the goals weren’t related to my life anymore, with the move and other priorities shifting. When Stephanie posted how to make a 101 in 1001 list, I decided it was time to do it again. I think I’m ready to do it again now that my life is going to be somewhat settled in the near future lol. I started the list on December 1, 2018 so it will end on August 28, 2020. I decided to share my list here with you. Here’s my list on the website if you want to follow me or check in on my progress! Blog Make a decision for or against blog rebrand (and execute) | You know I’ve been considering this for a while. I want to make a choice and either go for it or officially decide to keep Bookmark Lit as is. Post challenge updates each calendar year during it | I want to include progress updates throughout […]

Bookmark Lit Bulletin | January 2018

The Bookmark Lit Bulletin was created to wrap up each month and prepare for the next. I share my book haul, books I read and reviewed, posts I shared, challenge updates, and more from the previous month. I also let you know what may be coming up on the blog in the coming month. You can read past bulletins here. I recently split out my personal posts into the Lauren Lately feature, so this is a bit shorter! I love kicking off the year with a solid reading month because it just gives me some breathing room. Even though my goal is much lower this year, I still have been in the mood to read like a crazy person. I did read a few books in one day or over the course of two sittings. Snow days and skiing lead to a lot of audiobook listening and/or reading, depending. I’m starting to get a littleee stir crazy though, so hopefully we can pull together some activities for the rest of the winter. Average rating for books read this month: 3.8 stars Highlights & Lowlights This month’s books: Year-Long Netgalley/Edelweiss Challenge 4 this month | 4 read total | Current NG ratio: 73% Popsugar Reading Challenge 10 this month | 10 read total | 25% complete   Prompts from L-R: Next book in started series, book set in fascinating country, book with a time of day in the title, book with an LGBTQ+ protagonist, book is also a stage play/musical, book with […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #166: Goals

Bookish Resolutions/Goals Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I already posted about my resolutions because I was trying to get ahead of the game, but here’s a very quick recap. (I’m also only including book and blogging resolutions; the post has more personal ones as well.) I’ll be using this post to share some other small bookish goals that I plan to conquer in 2018, which also includes a little bit of spinning off from the resolutions/challenges I signed up for. Official Reading Resolutions Read more here! Continue to not feel pressured to read and enjoy other hobbies Read 50% or less contemporary novels Read books from my shelves – at least one each month but a total 20+ in 2018 Start and complete 3 series next year – at least one reread Develop a blog schedule for each week that mixes in bookish and personal Develop a review system Other General and Challenge-Related Goals Get my Netgalley ratio to 80% and master Edelweiss. I signed up for the Netgalley & Edelweiss Challenge to meet this specific goal. I want to focus on reading review books, even trying the ones I’m not as interested in reading anymore. Even if it leads to […]

If We Were Having Coffee…

If We Were Having Coffee…

I LOVE reading personal posts from other bloggers and seeing Jamie’s “If We Were Having Coffee” feature take off is so fun. Laura and Lindsey also have some great spin-offs of this feature too. I was very tempted to also make mine margarita-related (like Lindsey) but coffee is so ingrained in my daily life that it just makes sense to keep it. If you’re not familiar, it basically involves a fake little conversation about what’s been happening in our lives lately. Read on to see what’s been happening lately and feel free to chat back in the comments! If we were having coffee… I’d tell you that I’m currently participating in Bout of Books and hope to make some good progress this week! I binge-read multiple books over the weekend and will start off the readathon with A TAXONOMY OF LOVE today. I’m off to a great start this year (especially because I started and finished two books yesterday!). What are you currently reading and/or listening to? If we were having coffee… I’d say that I’ve felt super energized by reading again now that my 2017 ban of reading between Christmas and NYE is over. I reached my goal of 150 books on the 26th and didn’t want to finish the year on an random number (I would have had to push to 155 books if I was going to keep reading), so I just stopped for the rest of the year. It felt weird to not read; I ended up binge-watching some […]

Bookmark Lit Bulletin | December 2017 + End of Year

The Bookmark Lit Bulletin was created to wrap up each month and prepare for the next. I share my book haul, books I read and reviewed, posts I shared, challenge updates, and more from the previous month. I also let you know what may be coming up on the blog in the coming month. You can read past bulletins here. I recently split out my personal posts into the Lauren Lately feature, so this is a bit shorter! As usual I wish I could go back in time to the holiday season again! ? I read so many cute holiday books and novellas in December that I would have loved to continue into January. They’re so easy and cozy to read. Anyways, I easily met my goal with plenty of time to spare and stopped myself when I hit exactly 150 books for my goal. I don’t like going over unless it’s to a rounder number, like 155 or 160. I feel weird about reading like 151 or 152 books, which are numbers I was likely to hit. So, it was nice to have some wiggle room to fill out the end of year surveys early! Yearly Wrap-Up of Statistics I wanted to keep these graphs in a scroll box because they get a little intense and fill so much space. If you’re curious about my bookish breakdown for 2017, take a look below! Average rating for books read in December: 3.75 stars Highlights & Lowlights This month’s books: Year-Long Contemporary Romance Challenge […]

2017 End of Year and Statistics Surveys

2017 End of Year and Statistics Surveys

Happy end of the year! How is it possible?! Honestly this was one of the craziest, busiest, weirdest, and best years of my life. As you know from years past, I hate filling these out unless my year is completely done. I’ve managed to finish my reading a bit early and then pause until the New Year. I loved filling out Jamie’s survey in 2014, 2015, and 2016. This is the 7th time she’s hosted this survey and it’s so fun to see what everyone chooses for the categories. Last year, I didn’t allow myself any duplicates. I’m going to try to keep them to a minimum for this survey, but it feels impossible. I’ll need to have a few. To learn more about it and see a blank set of questions, check here! It was so fun to reread my answers for last year, since I copied that survey here to clean out and fill out. Number of Books You Read: 150 Number of Re-Reads: 16 | Number of DNFs: 7 Genre You Read The Most From: Contemporary 1. Best Book You Read In 2017? Totally cheating and adding multiple categories! (Not including rereads.) See a full list of my “best reads” of the year (5 stars and 4.5 stars) here if you’re curious.       Best of the best: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas Best contemporary: The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord Best non-contemporary: The Cruel Prince by Holly Black Best adult fiction: The Dirty Book Club by Lisi Harrison Best 2017 debut […]

Lauren Lately | December 2017

Lauren Lately | December 2017

Because my Bookmark Lit Bulletin wrap-ups got out of hand, I wanted to break up my monthly wrap-ups into two posts: one personal and one bookish/bloggy. I created Lauren Lately here to highlight all of the personal happenings in my life: events, activities, shows I’m addicted to, things I’m obsessing over, recipes I’ve loved, and goals for the next month. I decided to space them out so this wrap-up happens around the mid-point of the month and the bookish one happens at the end of the month. ✨ Check out my most recent bookish and bloggy wrap-up HERE ✨   Home for Thanksgiving {Lego meeting, hotel stay} | Even though the last recap was basically right after we came home at the end of October / early November, we had to come home again a few weeks later for Thanksgiving. We really didn’t do anything in between the two trips home, honestly. So! We we were able to come home a few days before Thanksgiving to go to our Lego club’s holiday meeting, which was a blast. We got sooo much free Lego. That night, we actually got a hotel room in a little CT town that we’re considering living in after we leave Maine. We enjoyed a nice dinner out and walking around in the rain, then ended our night in the hotel by the fire with drinks. We did some exploring the next day before heading to my dad’s house for football. I worked in the office in the days leading […]

On My List (3)

On My List (3)

I love Jamie’s New to the Queue feature because it highlights new things she’s added to her different “to do/ read/ watch/ etc.” lists. This new random feature – called simply On My List – will show off the most recent books, movies, shows, podcasts, recipes, crafts, and other things to make it on my to-do list. Unreleased    Dating Disasters of Emma Nash by Chloe Seager | I haven’t been single in quite some time (and really never had any “dating disasters” when I was, to be honest), so I think this could be a fun one for me to experience! The Dead Enders by Erin Saldin | This blurb had me at “for fans of One of Us is Lying” so I had to add it to my TBR. I like the idea of this group of people being connected from an accident and trying to move out of a “dead end” kind of town. All that I Can Fix by Crystal Chan | This one sounds very bizarre, but I’m intrigued. A zoo of exotic animals taking over a town seems like a weird premise but I think it may just be unique and fun! Published    Dashing through the Snow by Debbie Macomber | Tis the season… for me to add a bunch of holiday books to my TBR! I haven’t read a book by Macomber but I know many people love her. This one seemed like a good Christmas story to add to the TBR. Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Charlotte Butterfield […]

It’s a Nice Day for a White Wedding

It’s a Nice Day for a White Wedding

I read a couple of books recently involving wedding planners and/or general event planners. It’s something I’ve always loved reading about for some reason. I wanted to be an event planner when I was younger (even as recent as high school – my friend and I were going to be P&L Events ?), so I’m always drawn to these books. I figured I’d highlight some here – both ones I’ve read and enjoyed, as well as some on my TBR! Read & Recommended   Once and For All by Sarah Dessen | Dessen’s latest novel was a really fun book (with some serious moments) based around a wedding planning business. The main character’s mom owned her own business with her best friend, and she helped them out. Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally | The parents in Kenneally’s latest are event planners. They’re fighting for a chance to win the contract of a town-related event throughout the story. I definitely wish their business was highlighted more because I love event planning. There’s Cake in My Future by Kim Gruenenfelder | I remember really enjoying this one a few years ago. The story revolves around some best friends and one of their weddings. There was a lot of wedding planning involved, but wasn’t about that business necessarily. On My TBR     The People We Hate at the Wedding by Grant Ginder | “Paul and Alice’s half-sister Eloise is getting married! In London! There will be fancy hotels, dinners at “it” restaurants and a reception at […]
