Goodbye Summer Readathon: Update #1

My Goodbye Summer Readathon started on August 27th and will continue through September 15th. Please feel free to join us if you’d like; it’s a laid-back readathon to simply get in all of the books you wanted to read this summer but haven’t read yet! Here’s my updated TBR and progress.

200 Word Review: Audrey, Wait!

Review: In the simplest terms: this book made me smile and I enjoyed it. I wasn’t ever REALLY itching to read it though. Lately, the books I’ve been reading have been addicting and I would try to carve out as much time as possible to read. This one wasn’t exactly the same way and it took me too long to read. Things I liked: It was really cute. I liked the general plot and the way it progressed. There were a few LOL moments. The characters were fun and EXTREMELY well developed. Things I didn’t like: The humor felt forced at times. I wanted to roll my eyes at some of the jokes/conversations. While there were a lot of things that happened, it also kind of felt like nothing was really happening… if that makes sense. The description of the book lists something that doesn’t happen until literally one of the last chapters. I kept waiting for it the entire book and it almost felt like the description had a spoiler for the “big event” at the end. Overall, the book didn’t WOW me but it also didn’t exactly disappoint me. I liked it and am glad I read it.

Musing Mondays #6

What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard I want this book SO BAD. It isn’t released until next year but so many people have the ARCs already and I’m dying to get one, too. Here’s a little funny story about this book and the author. I’m from a small town in Connecticut that is on the Massachusetts border. When I went to college, I became really good friends with a guy from the town in Mass that my town borders. Flash forward four years, we’re still friends and meet up at a local bar. Him and his friend tell me all about how one of their good friends from high school has a book coming out. Victoria Aveyard! This was the first time I heard of her and the plot of the book sounded RIGHT up my alley. Small world, huh? So in other words, Victoria Aveyard is actually a FRIEND OF A FRIEND who grew up in the town NEXT to mine! Now, do I use my connections to see about getting an ARC? The only thing is, my friend from college doesn’t know about my blog and I’m not sure I want him to. So, I don’t really have a good way of contacting the author unless I decide to tell my friend and then talk to her. IDK BUT I NEED THIS BOOK!

Labor Day: Books You Can Read in a Day

Happy Labor Day! In honor of a holiday where you don’t have to work (and that’s pretty much the actual reason for the holiday), I wanted to give you a new recommendation list. On days like these where I would normally be working, I like to curl up with a good book and crank through it. Here are my recommendations for books that you could read within one day. Perfect for today’s day off! (Shout out to my boyfriend for coming up with this idea when I was trying to come up with a post related to this weird holiday)
