Review Round Up | My Not So Perfect Life, Literally, ACOWAR, and Always & Forever, Lara Jean

In an effort to cut down on posts and burnout, my Review Roundups will feature 2-4 reviews of already published books (either older/backlist or newer releases) that I’ve read or listened to recently. My ARC reviews usually get the solo treatment. Enjoy the mini reviews! Man, this was cute. Seriously… so good, guys. If you like early Kinsella like Can You Keep A Secret, Remember Me, and I’ve Got Your Number, give this one a shot. I read all of those – plus a few more – back in the day and had been craving her style again. This book did not disappoint. The story starts in London, where Katie/Cat is struggling to achieve the city life of her dreams. She’s soon let go from her job and returns home to her dad’s house in the country, where her stepmom and father have started a glamping business on their farm. She quickly settles back into life there and her scatter-brained ex-boss suddenly appears with her family on vacation. The book was pretty long and covered a lot more time than I expected, but it was nice to see all the different “phases” of her life to see how things progressed. I loved learning more about her boss, Demeter, who was not who she seemed. I loved Katie trying to find herself, fit in, and/or put her talents to good use on the farm’s business. I loved Alex. I loved her parents. I loved Steve. Seriously, everyone was fantastic. I really liked seeing secrets get […]

Review: P.S. I Still Love You

It’s kind of impossible to review this book. I think my review of its predecessor involved a lot of flailing, since it was easily in my top 2 favorite books last year. I definitely am leaning towards the same type of review… I’ve been staring at this blank screen for a while. I sincerely loved this. It completely met (and probably exceeded) my expectations. There was a LOT of pressure for this book to be spectacular! Everyone and their mother needed to know what happened next with Lara Jean and Peter. Seeing that the next book’s synopsis mentioned a love triangle definitely got some people upset. BUT WE LOVE PETER, WHAT R U DOING LARA JEAN?!?! I admit I was one of those people. But honestly, this book was so sweet and real. I don’t mind love triangles if they feel believable and realistic. I had been in similar situations when I was her age. Love triangles happen when you’re a teenager – they really do. I looooved John and I loooooooved Peter (yes, Peter gets a few more O’s for obvious reasons), so I felt like I was struggling along with Lara Jean. The whole book was just adorable. I’m not sure how else to describe it. As usual, Kitty was my favorite. I love everything about her. After reading a lot of reviews on the first book, many people complained that Lara Jean seemed a bit too young. This didn’t bother me as much in the first book […]

Review: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Okay honestly I can’t believe I didn’t read this book sooner. It has been my most anticipated read of the year, hands down, and I guess I kept waiting to see if it would go on sale. I decided to just say fuck it and decided to make it a part of Bout of Books. I am so, SO glad I finally read this one (although I kind of wish I waited a little longer so it would be closer to the release of the second book). To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before easily gets five stars from me. I loved every second of it. I LOVED loved LoVeD the characters. Before I get too carried away – this book is about how Lara Jean’s life is turned upside down when her box of letters is released to their intended recipients. In order to get over a boy she likes, she writes a letter to them and hides it in a hatbox under her bed. One day, the letters are mysteriously sent out and she has to deal with the repercussions. One of the boys is her sister’s ex-boyfriend Josh, who is also their longtime friend/neighbor. Another is the popular boy at school, Peter, who was her first kiss. Lucas, a third boy at her school, becomes her close friend after getting her letter and helps her make sense of everything happening to her. Every character in this book was so fun to get to know. Lara Jean was blessed with an amazing […]
