Friday R.E.P.O.R.T. (4/10/26)

This Friday R.E.P.O.R.T will consist of what I’ve been reading, eating, planning (instead of playing, I don’t really think it works for me), obsessing over, recommending, and treating. Written on Wednesday 4/8.

R / reading

Like everyone else in the book world, I’m reading THE UNSELECTED JOURNALS OF EMMA M. LION. It’s a historical fiction novella series that follows Emma as she returns to London, living with her cousin in her family home, and encountering all kinds of people and things. It’s really cute so far though I don’t see the hype of folks naming this a favorite series. I finished the second book early in April and am almost done with the third installment now. I need to take a little break and get into some egalleys on my Kindle once I finish this one, but I do anticipate finishing all 8 in the first half of the year. I also plan to finish FINLAY DONOVAN CROSSES THE LINE later today during my pedicure appointment. I have the audio, which I always love, but grabbed the physical copy from a library last week too.

E / eating

We’re eating a lot of easier things lately (thanks to the new pup) and finishing up the true crockpot season. I still use mine during the summer for certain things because it’s lovely to not use a hot oven on the nights we don’t grill something. Otherwise, we’ve been making it our mission to try different breakfast takeout spots on the weekends lately. This routine recently brought me to a local coffee shop that has excellent coffee flavors. I’ve been really enjoying Hartford Baking Company, Vernon Coffee Roasters, and Steve’s Bagels. We’ve also ventured further out so our next one is Toast, which is an amazing bagel place in Glastonbury.

P / planning

We adopted a puppy (more on her below) so most of our planning involves how to deal with her crate time, training, and our potential ability to actually plan a trip. I want to go to Maine soon to visit my parents and bring her with us but we’re not sure she’s ready yet. We have season tickets to the Connecticut Sun’s final season (ugh) beginning in May so we’re also planning dog care for those evenings and occasional weekends. We have a trip to Mystic on the books for August when there are back-to-back Sun games.

O / obsessing over

We got a new puppy, Hazel, in early February so we are obsessing over our dogs! She and Miller are complete opposites but somehow they complement each other so well. She’s goofy and floppy, while Miller is a bit more nervous and reserved. She’s opened him up a lot though, it’s been so fun to watch. We are totally in love with these doggies. They play very well together and love each other. They are also opposite in their issues as it relates to training. Miller had no problems with his crate at all, pretty much never cried in there. She still lets out a cry or two probably half of the time she goes in there, but then she passes out immediately. We’re working on training her in the travel crate so she gets used to being there in different locations. I honestly think she just loves us and wants to be with us, plus her early life was super unstable. She’s making a ton of progress though.

R / recommending

We finally got into finishing or watching some TV shows in between all the sports. NCAA basketball is wrapping up so we have more free time before WNBA season begins! We loved Jury Duty (season one) and were super excited to see what they’d do in season two. They ended up doing it as a Company Retreat instead and it was pretty much as incredible as season one. So funny and heartwearming. We’ve loved Paradise since the first season and were anxiously awaiting season two. We watched it pretty much each week and it got crazier and better in many ways, but also different. I didn’t think this show would interest me based on the original premise (secret service agent trying to figure out who killed the president) but I PROMISE the show is soooo much better and different. Watch the first episode and see how it ends, then decide if you’re curious to continue. 😉

T / treating

Nothing too exciting here and mostly dog-related, but we’re treating ourself to a new fence for the doggies. Walking them around the yard on two leashes is a pain in the butt because we have a lot of trees for them to get tangled on. I’ll feel better about hiring dogsitters or having my sister watch them if there’s a fence and less risk of a leash dropping and a pup running off! It will be installed on the 27th of this month and came in cheaper than expected. We also just bought a robot vacuum for the upstairs to help with Hazel hair… she sheds so much more than Miller!
