Top Ten Tuesdays #280: Genre Freebie

Recent Fave Adult Contemporary Romance

Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review.

My blog has had a mix of YA and adult titles for a while. I’ll always read YA, but I’ve noticed that the percentage of adult-oriented books has grown each year. I’m reading a lot of romances from my favorite publishers (Forever and Berkley) so I thought it would be fun to recommend some from those imprints and beyond.

Central Park Pact Companion Series

I just enjoyed this series SO much. The story is built around three ladies who realize that they’re all with the same man… at his funeral. Naomi, the fling, gets her love story in book one; Claire, the wife, gets book two; and Audrey, the girlfriend, has book three. I adored each of them, with the final installment being my favorite. I’ll be honest: while romance is certainly present, these are highly focused on the girls moving on with their lives in more ways than one, plus their sweet friendship.

Sweetwater Springs Companion Series

There are two novellas not shown here, by the way, and they’re fully worth reading in between! I’ve fallen so in love with Sweetwater Springs. This charming place has everything I love to read about in a small town romance companion series, from the adorable main street shops and restaurants, to the excellent characters (side and main!). It feels like coming home every time I crack open the newest installment. More to come here, too!

Standalone or Series-Starter

The Flatshare The Unhoneymooners Mermaid Inn Meet Cute

I know everyone loved The Flatshare but I just have to mention it. Like many, I HATED Leon’s chapters and was 100% sure they wouldn’t grow on me. Spoiler: they did. This book is a perfect read and I highly, highly recommend it. It had some heavier elements to it, like her terrible ex-boyfriend, but the romance was on point overall.  The Unhoneymooners was my first Christina Lauren book and I’ve since requested and/or read everything they’ve put out since. I loved the enemies-to-more Hawaiian vacation they took! Mermaid Inn is the first book in the new Matchmaker Bay series and I loved it. The inn itself was so fun, there was minimal drama, and the second chance romance was superb. Can’t WAIT for the next. And finally, Meet Cute was unsurprisingly a hit for me. Many readers thought it’d be kind of light and fluffy, but I was glad to skim a few reviews before starting. There’s a lot more to this one, but it still featured all of my favorite tropes: friends-to-more (and simultaneously hate-to-love), celebrity/normal person, and sort of second chance romance.
