Top 10 Book Words that Grab Me

I realized I haven’t done a Book List in a while! Things have gotten crazy here between readalongs, readathons, weekly memes, and other features I’m developing for my blog — I’ve been neglecting one of the very things I intended to feature on my blog. I took a look at some past Top 10 Tuesday topics over at Broke & Bookish to give me some inspiration. Top ten words or topics that will make me pick up the book – with the books that caught my attention!   These books are some of my favorite examples of books within these topics. (I haven’t read Pivot Point yet, but it’s one of the books I’m most looking forward to reading based on the topic.) What words in a book’s description will make you buy the book?

Goodbye Summer TBR List

Today I’ll be starting my Goodbye Summer Readathon, where I motivate myself to finish the summery books I like to read during the season. Here’s my information post and the general page where I’ll be updating progress and goals. I don’t expect anyone to join in – but you’re more than welcome to! This is just my way of getting through some summer books before fall officially starts. Without further ado, here’s my TBR list that I’ll be completing between now and September 15th. I’ll be kicking it off with Since Last Summer!

Mid-Year Book Freakout

Mid-Year Book Freakout: a survey of the books I’ve read so far this year! I don’t know why, I just found it to be so incredibly funny and perfect in nearly every way. It wasn’t what I expected, but I still enjoyed it very much. Read this one if you’re prepared to laugh out loud and fall in love with every character in the book! (Review) Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2014: Hereafter by Kate Brian It’s no secret that the Shadowlands trilogy by Kate Brian completely knocked my socks off. I read all three books within a 2-3 day period and forced two people I know to immediately start them as well. Hereafter was a really cool second book, but unfortunately the plot is almost 100% a spoiler if you haven’t read the first book yet! (Review for all books) New release you haven’t read yet, but want to: Dissonance by Erica O’Rourke Okay I’ve built this book up so much in my head, I really hope it doesn’t disappoint. I still have a shit-ton of contemporary YA that I’ve been wanting to read since around May, but this is a more recent new release that I can’t stop thinking […]

Top 10 Paranormal Books

Top 10 Paranormal Books

Lately my TBR pile has been getting filled with paranormal, afterlife, time travel, reimagining, and dystopia books. When I read and get in the mood for a certain genre, that’s normally what I binge-read and binge-add to my Goodreads shelves. I just finished September Girls, which basically killed my paranormal mood. Before I move along to other genres, I wanted to share a list of some of my favorite books that fall into this category. Some of them are series; some are standalones. I’m also including three books I haven’t read yet but am DYING to get my hands on. Which of these have you read? Which of these are you adding to your TBR pile?   Read and Loved Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin The land of Elsewhere is a mix between earth and heaven, where a fourteen year old girl ends up going after she dies. She will age backwards until she is a baby again, and then return to earth. This was a great book with a really cool concept; I think I’ll be rereading this one soon! The Looking Glass Wars (series) by Frank Beddor This is a reimagining of the Alice in Wonderland books…except this time, young Alyss of Wonderland is stuck in the human world, fighting to get back and claim her rightful place as the Queen of Hearts. I normally am not a huge fan of reimaginings, but this concept was really cool. A Great and Terrible Beauty (series) by Libba Bray Even if you […]

10 Books I’m Judging by the Cover

10 Books I’m Judging by the Cover

I won’t lie – I’m obsessed with books that have gorgeous covers. Contrary to the popular saying, the cover is the first thing you see that draws you into the book. The plot summary on the back is what seals the deal for me, of course, but no one has time to read the summary of every single book in the store and ignore the covers completely. It’s just not feasible. I’ve notice lately that the YA genre has been including these indie-esque covers with beautiful typography. Based on their covers, these are the 10 books I’m most looking forward to reading in the near future. Have you read any of these? Which should I start with? Which ones sucked? Comment below!         To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all. I absolutely love Jenny Han. I’ve […]

10 Favorite Books of 2014 (So Far)

10 Favorite Books of 2014 (So Far)

Although I have a separate page for this topic, I figured I would make a post about it as well since I am just getting this blog started. Here are the top 10 books that I enjoyed reading so far in 2014. (Not all of these were released in 2014) Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver  Any book that makes me stay up late thinking about is a good book in my mind. I finished this book in two sittings because I needed to know what happened next. A popular teenager is killed in a car accident. She continues to relive the day she died over and over; she alters her decisions every day and slowly learns her purpose. This book made me think about life and death far more than I usually do. I wrote a full review here. The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty A woman finds a letter written by her husband that she was not supposed to find until he died. The novel develops how her family, and a couple of others, will cope with her husband’s secret. I’m a sucker for a book where multiple peoples’ lives intertwine. I enjoyed this book because it made me more interested in reading “adult” fiction instead of my usual YA. Liane Moriarty has a few other books out that I want to read and I hope they live up to my expectations. I expect to write a full review on this book sometime soon, since it is one […]

Top 10 Summer Reads

Top 10 Books to Read in the Summertime My best book season is the summertime. There’s nothing better than sitting outside under a tree or on the beach reading a book. I love stories about girls who head off to some beachy destination, fall in love, and make new friends. I’m a sucker for a summer YA novel. Here are my top picks for summertime. Some of them are book series and some are standalones, listed in no particular order. Enjoy! Summer series by Katherine Applegate  ||  This series includes Beach Blondes, Spring Break, Tan Lines, and Sun-Kissed Christmas. For some reason, they were published out of order; I recommend reading them as I listed them here. Beach Blondes and Tan Lines technically contain three books apiece, so they look huge. The stories go by very quickly and are a little less fluffy than they seem. The gist is that the main character, who is of course named Summer, heads down to Florida for the summer/spring break/summer again/Christmas. She meets three guys: Adam, the rich guy; Diver, the mysterious guy; and Seth, the guy with a girlfriend. Add in the typical YA drama and a little more serious stuff, and you’ve got this series that’s perfect to read on the beach. Summer series by Jenny Han  ||  Apparently these two series’ have unoriginal names. This series includes The Summer I Turned Pretty, It’s Not Summer Without You, and We’ll Always Have Summer. I could not stop reading these. I wish […]
