Currently – 7/9/15

Lots of lifestyle bloggers share posts about things they’re currently up to: things they’re feeling, stuff they’re working on, and even what music they’re listening to at the moment. (I also love the “what I’m doing now” tag on Instagram!) I’m taking a cue from them and giving you a slice of my life. my pedicure after work. It’s not exactly NEEDED or anything, because my previous one from a few months ago is actually in good shape… But I just really need the massage chair. I won’t lie, I would literally sit in that chair all day instead of even get anything done to my toes/legs. not any work, that’s for sure. We have so many things in process right now and it’s not leaving me with a lot of actual THINGS to do at work. Since I’m a recruiter, we do a lot of waiting around for people to respond to us, companies to give us feedback, and interviews to happen. I’m definitely in a spot right now where I can do nothing but wait. raspberry lemonade. I love this shit. Simply Lemonade makes the best drinks and their raspberry kind is the absolute best. I bought a container to leave in the fridge at work for the next week or two! Chinese food. My friend and I met up for lunch at the Chinese restaurant down the road. We had to discuss some Jack & Jill plans for my friend’s wedding coming up! We surprisingly don’t have a […]

Mid-Year Blogging Update & Goals

Mid-Year Blogging Update & Goals

2015 has been the first “fresh” year of blogging for me. I started my blog in the middle of July 2014 – eeek, one year anniversary is coming up! – so 2015 was MY YEAR for making up goals, joining year-long challenges, and trying to see if I could survive. I signed up for way too many challenges, but I’ve been actually doing a decent job so far. Here’s a rundown on my challenge progress (in more detail than I usually put in my monthly wrap-ups and what I hope to accomplish with the rest of the year on my blog! (Also, sorry if Livin on a Prayer is stuck in your head now.) (AND, this may be slightly outdated because I’ve finished a couple of books since writing this.) Reading Stats Books read: 90 books completed by July 1st Pages read: 30,945 (not entirely accurate, because this includes audiobooks) Genre most read: Contemporary, which surprises no one Goal/Resolution Updates Back at the end of December 2014, Top Ten Tuesday asked us for our bookish and blogging resolutions for the following year. My post had five of each, and I thought I’d check in on my progress so far for 2015! Write more original discussion posts: I wrote 7 discussion posts between January and the end of June, so I think that’s pretty good! About one per month. I would definitely like to increase that number, but a part of me kind of likes spacing them out. I feel like I would run out […]

Bookmark Lit Bulletin – April 2015

Bookmark Lit Bulletin – April 2015

The Bookmark Lit Bulletin was created to wrap up each month and prepare for the next. I share my life happenings, book haul, books I read and reviewed, posts I shared, challenge updates, and more from the previous month. I also let you know what may be coming up on the blog in the coming month. You can read past bulletins here and learn more about the feature here. The NFL draft is tonight! I’m definitely curious to see who the Panthers end up with this year. I think they could use more help on the offense, so I’m looking forward to a running back or another wide receiver. The first week of April brought my friends into town for Easter weekend as usual. It was a lot of fun to spend time with them. The following weekend, I made an impromptu trip to Boston for my friend’s birthday. We roamed around, went shopping, and had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. It was fun to see her and spend the day up there, but I was damn exhausted by the end of the day.  I went to Target randomly the following week and bought a Fitbit. I love tracking my steps, sleep, and calorie intake. It motivates me to go for walks and just keep track of what I’m eating a little more. I’m currently not someone who can exercise or run, so this is an easy way to stay active and try to get my steps in. My boyfriend and I […]

No Spend April

No Spend April

The lovely Cass at The Casserole wrote about budgeting last month and her post was JUST what I needed to kick myself in the butt about spending. I have a problem where I spend too much money. On food. On books. On clothes. On random stuff I don’t need. Where does all my money gooo?! I hope that this month makes me more conscious about my spending, but I also plan to keep it realistic. I’m going to set some personal goals and rules for this month that may seem lenient; it’s just the only way I know this will work! Learn more about No Spend April here. I’m going to set some personal ground rules for No Spend April, because I know that I tend to spend way too much money on food and unnecessary stuff throughout the month. Chris and I are really bad about eating meals at home on the weekends, so I hope that can be improved upon here (even though 1-3 per week, in my rule, sounds like a lot! It’s a major improvement for us, I’m ashamed to say). Complete the budgeting worksheet within the first week of No Spend April, found here Only one work lunch out per week: the rest must be brought to the office from home Eat at home for dinner most nights, with the exception of 1-3 dinners out per week if needed (for birthdays or events that fall during the month) No coffee-buying unless the money is already on my […]

Bookmark Lit Bulletin – March 2015

The Bookmark Lit Bulletin was created to wrap up each month and prepare for the next. I share my life happenings, book haul, books I read and reviewed, posts I shared, challenge updates, and more from the previous month. I also let you know what may be coming up on the blog in the coming month. You can read past bulletins here and learn more about the feature here. I guess the biggest recent development for me is the fact that I, as usual, became football-obsessed during free agency. I had to keep track of what all the teams were doing (and what my team was NOT doing, as usual). I had a pretty busy month overall. Chris and I took a day trip down to the southern part of the state to visit a different Lego store and an indie book store. I had a boring day at Jury Duty that led to me reading two books, which was pretty awesome. I went out to dinner for my dad’s birthday and my stepmom’s birthday; they’re unoriginal and both pick the same restaurant. We also went to a Lego event that took place up at Yankee Candle Village. I bought a lot of things I didn’t need and we participated in some Lego stuff that was meant for little kids. I went to my friend’s birthday party that consisted of galactic bowling, so that was fun! I love seeing her and spending time with my other friend that I don’t see […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #22: Resolutions

Top Ten Bookish and Blogging Resolutions Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make LISTS of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. I was planning on including a post like this within the next day or two about my goals for 2015, so this is perfect! As everyone knows, I started blogging in July of 2014, so this coming year will be my first full year of blogging. I’ve signed up for a number of challenges, since it’s the first time I can participate in the year-long stuff, and plan on doing a lot of stuff in the coming year. Thanks everyone for your support in getting me started! Write more original discussion posts: These seem to get a lot of traffic on the blog and I love reading other people’s opinions. I need to start drafting a post the minute an idea pops into my head, because otherwise I forget all of my ideas when the time comes. Write more top 10 lists and recommendation lists: These are supposed to be a main feature on my blog but I rarely post them. The problem is that I didn’t really have a lot of books to base these lists on. I would find myself repeating the same ones over and over again. With the hefty […]
