Top Ten Tuesdays #99: Bookish Motivation

Ten Things Books Have Inspired Me to Do Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This week’s topic is the Top Ten Things Books Have Made Me Want To Do or Learn About After Reading Them. I have actually done this topic in the past on the blog and remember having so much fun with it. (The topic was actually inspirational quotes but I had just posted favorite book quotes, so I mixed it up!) I’m excited to revisit this idea because there are plenty of other books I’ve read since then that inspired me to do things. Second Time Around by Beth Kendrick inspired me to start my read-bait blog series up again I love books about reunions and this one was no exception. Any time characters get together after spending years apart, especially if there were some big secrets being hidden… I’m all about it. This inspired me to start my read-bait series up again because I had taken quite a break from it for a while. Adventure Time Volume 1 inspired me to finally read comics and graphic novels Before Scribd changed their memberships up, I came across this comic and just randomly started to read it. It was the final push I needed before I started […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #98: Out of the US

Books Set Outside of the United States: Six to Read and Six Already Read Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. Well, this was an eye-opening TTT! I haven’t read a lot of books outside of the United States, apparently. Most of them involve someone from the US heading overseas on a trip of some kind, and luckily I have a Goodreads shelf specifically for that. I decided to split this TTT up into books I’ve read that take place outside the US and books on my TBR. Definitely link me up with yours! Wanderlost by Jen Malone /// This was such a sweet story. I read it so quickly because it was just too adorable. I shipped it reaaaal hard. I shipped it hard all over Europe. Two Summers by Aimee Friedman /// I was super looking forward to this book because I love parallel life stories, but it didn’t completely wow me. The main character goes to Paris in “one of her lives” and has a few surprises along the way. Definitely glad I read it and would definitely recommend it! Come Away With Me by Karma Brown /// Ugh this book made me uuuugly cry. Very emotional read but involves a lot of international travel as a woman moves on from […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #96: Underrated

Ten Great Underrated Books with Under 2000 Goodreads Reviews & Ratings Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I decided to go with the absolute lowest number of ratings that I really enjoyed, and work my way up. There are plenty of underrated books worth reading so I’ll try to highlight some I don’t usually mention! I’m also going to try to avoid super new releases because obviously those may not have as many reviews too. These were published in 2015 or earlier. My Reviews: Three Day Summer • Class of ’98 • Aspen • Play On • Hello? • Only Everything Damsel Distressed • My Last Kiss • The One Thing • The Revenge Playbook

Top Ten Tuesdays #95: Freebie

Ten Favorite Taylor Jenkins Reid Quotes Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I had just finished the latest Taylor Jenkins Reid book when I saw the freebie topic was listed for today’s TTT. I was instantly thinking that I just needed to highlight more about this woman’s books because I have loved all of them. I mean, my least favorite of the three I’ve read I still gave 4.5 stars to! So yes, I’ve only read three of her four published books so far and I definitely plan to save Forever, Interrupted for the right day and mood. Today I’m sharing ten of my favorite quotes from her books. If you haven’t read them already, hopefully this inspires you to remedy that immediately. Top Ten Tuesdays #93: Anticipated Releases

Ten Most Anticipated Releases for the 2nd Half of 2016 Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This weeks topic is: Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For The Second Half Of The Year (since we did a topic about the releases we were excited about for the first half of 2016 back in the beginning of the year) Feel free to tweak it how you want to — like most anticipated fantasy for the second half of 2016 or debut authors. Whatever you want!  I will be going along the same lines as my first post and including my most anticipated releases from July through December, encompassing all genres I read.  Also, let’s talk about how I read exactly half of the books I highlighted in that earlier post. I kind of suck but that’s better than usual. I also DNFed another but let’s NOT talk about that part. The Secret of a Heart Note by Stacey Lee ♥ December This one is definitely one of my top exciting releases. It just sounds so unique and fun to me! Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty ♥ July I’m a big fan of Liane Moriarty and am excited for this one, even though I have a lot of her backlist to read still. PS I Like You by Kasie West ♥ July […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #92: Library Lovin’

Ten Reasons I Love the Library This weeks topic is: Ten Reasons I Love X — could be a certain book, character, author, your indie bookstore, a fandom, a tv show, reading, a hobby, a genre. Honestly anything you want to gush about. Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. As you know, I recently did a Library Love post to share the books I currently had checked out from the library. I wanted to talk today about why I love the library in general! I feel like I’ve done a similar post before but honestly I can’t find it, so whatever. Enjoy the library goodness! (1) Free books, obviously! This is the clear reason the library is the best. At mine, the slip prints out and tells you how much money you saved by using the library. I love knowing that I got FREE books to read. I’ve been much better about my book buying habits lately: I generally only buy ebooks on sale, I typically read a book first then buy it, and I don’t aimlessly browse and buy books anymore. I’ve been cutting back on my spending in general so I don’t want to cut corners with books either. Obviously there’s nothing better than buying a book, […]

Library Dreams

Library Dreams

Chris and I have been looking into houses, because frankly we have too much shit for our one-bedroom apartment. We both have major hobbies that take up LOTS of space – Lego and reading. We’ve talked about looking into 2 or 3 bedroom houses (hopefully with a finished basement) so I can have a library and he can have a Lego studio. Maybe these are pipe dreams, but we’re certainly looking! We have zero plans for children in the future, so we’re going to let ourselves do whatever we want with our extra rooms!I love Amy’s Nookish posts and have been adding bookshelf pictures to my Pinterest for as long as I can remember. I love planning what I want my library to look like in my nonexistent house, so here are some ideas I’ve been pining over. [Images from Pinterest and/or link to stores] Built-in bookshelves My dad is a great DIY person and has a huge built-in wall of shelving for his CD collection (#dads, amrite?). I plan to have him deck out the walls with built-ins, so I don’t have to worry about buying and assembling a million shelves. I would love to have them around at least three out of the four walls. I know my dad would take care of this for me, so it feels like a pretty achievable goal for this room! I may leave one wall empty (above the bed – more on that in a second) because I’d like to have a […]

Mini Reviews: Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore and Ajax Penumbra 1969

I read Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore a few months ago for my Book Club. I saw it in the store and was intrigued by the story, and then I had the excuse to push it higher on my list for the meeting. I really enjoyed it; the concept was beyond what I normally read. When I saw that there was a prequel, I was definitely interested in reading it eventually too. I saw it on Audible recently and it was only an hour and 45 minutes long. Without further ado, here are my MINI REVIEWS for both books! Mini Review: Who wouldn’t want a 24-hour bookstore, with high ceilings and infinite shelves of books? The summary Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore immediately grabbed me. Clay begins working in this peculiar store when he loses his job within advertising. He has the late, overnight shift and makes crappy money. He wonders how the bookstore stays open when there are so few actual customers. The only people who really enter the shop are not even buying books – they’re taking them out as if it were a library. He becomes curious about the old books he needs to climb up to the ceiling to get. Clay and his friends slowly uncover the mysteries of the bookstore and its clientele. Clay begins cataloging the books and the store’s clients, when he starts to notice some odd patterns. He eventually learns the secrets of Mr. Penumbra’s store and what the readers are looking to achieve. This book […]
