Today’s Topic: Blogging Schedules!
Random Bookish Thoughts, a “meme” that (ironically, based on today’s topic) has no real scheduled posting day. Any time I think of a random bookish topic, I’ll share my thoughts on it. You’re encouraged to join me in the comments if you have any thoughts, too!
Do you have a blogging schedule, or do you post whatever, whenever? What’s your schedule look like if you have one? How often to you post reviews vs. memes/other topics?
I started this blog without any intention of creating a schedule for myself. I joined in on a weekly meme for each day of the week (aside from weekends) because I wasn’t sure what to post. You’ve heard my thoughts on weekly memes before. I like them – I think they can help inspire you to post when you normally may not cover that topic or even write on your blog for the day. Everyone’s responses are different and interesting; it brings people together. Aside from those memes, I posted reviews whenever I happened to write them; I posted other recommendation lists whenever I was inspired to. Now that I’m entering the third month with my blog, I have definitely created a blogging schedule that I (mostly) follow. I like to post every day on here, even if it’s just the daily meme or a recommendation list.
As you can see, I’ve tried to organize things a lot more. The weekends I’m normally “off” from live-blogging, but I will schedule a post for each day of the weekend. Depending on what ideas I brainstorm during the week, this can generally be some kind of top 10 recommendation list, completing a book tag, or a discussion post like this one. I find that my viewership goes down on weekends so I avoid posting reviews then. I stopped with my Thursday meme, so it’s become a free day to post a review or list. I really try not to bombard people with any more than 2 posts per day!
Review Schedule
I don’t have a strict schedule for reviews. I find that I can’t keep up with reading fast enough in order to schedule one review per day (at least at this point in time)… so I tend to post a review every other day. Again, not many people are active on weekends, so I don’t post reviews often on Saturdays and Sundays. I like to post around 3 or 4 reviews per week, but the days depend on what else I have scheduled. I do get a little stressed when I don’t have a lot of reviews scheduled (which is right now!!!), but I try to relax, read, and go from there. Audiobooks are a major helper in allowing me to schedule reviews. Since I’m “reading” two books at once, I’m able to finish books faster and post more reviews for everyone!
Like you, I intended to create a schedule when I started my blog. However, it didn’t happen! The only thing I post on a specific day is author interviews 🙂 I tend to post when I feel I have something worth saying instead of panicking to get stuff up. Though this probably isn’t a good idea as it means I can go a while without posting!

I just started up a Google calendar to try to plan things a little better, since I always have some things in process or forget when I scheduled some posts. It helps because I can color code everything and see when I “need” to post stuff.
That’s such a good idea! I might give it a try 🙂 I’ve been interested in joining in with some memes during the week, but I’m not sure how or where to start!
It’s super easy. If you go to Bookshelf Fantasies, she has a meme directory where you can see all of the memes that occur on the days of the week. I participate in four memes during the weekdays (as you’ve probably seen). All you have to do is write a post about it, say which meme you’re participating in, link over to the blog who originated it, and normally that blog will have a linkup (or you post a link in the comments) so other people can click over to your post.

As for my own schedule, I (try to) do either memes or one of my features every day with the exception of Saturday, which I did a post for Stacking The Shelves last week and will be doing the same this week. On Sundays I do The Sunday Post where I share my schedule.
Then with reviews, I like to post them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, though I’m thinking of switching it to Tuesdays and Fridays, because, as you said, I can’t read that fast. I do have a review going up Saturday though.
This is a great discussion post. I feel schedules are important when blogging (and general), but I know a lot of people don’t need them. Me being the procrastinator I am, I do need them.

I definitely do not have a blogging schedule. I wish I did. I wish I was good at writing a bunch of posts a head of times. I wish I had features that I posted regularly. And maybe one day I will get there. But for now, my goal is just to get three posts up a week, and if I do that I’m satisfied.
That’s a good goal !
I have a blogging plan too, but I include 2 days off in mine – necessary for catching up with reading, commenting and life 🙂
Basically same here – weekends! 🙂
I used the editorial calendar plugin to schedule posts on my blog, and right now I’m sort of following a 3 posts one week/2 posts alternate week format right now. This just works with my busy schedule. I don’t have specific days for posts though-as I finish drafts I just plug them into days in the calendar and call it good 🙂
I got away from memes over the last few months, and am now just joining on one again-The Sunday Post. But, I’m doing it on Fridays instead of Sundays and only participating 1-2 times a month.
