Favorite Books of 2017

Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review.

Honestly this year did not have as many all-time favorites or REALLY GREAT books as I expected or hoped for. Of course, the ones I did really like were so perfect… but the quantity was just not there with the quality for so many others. In other words… this list may be a little easier to narrow down! However, as I usually do with my top books of the year, I’m going to feature all of my five star books AND 4.5 star books.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas //  The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord //
When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon // The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

What I Lost by Alex Ballard // Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index by Julie Israel // The Dirty Book Club by Lisi Harrison // The Cruel Prince by Holly Black // The Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed

Honorable Mention: 4.5 Stars

Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide by JK Rowling // Geekerella by Ashley Potson //
Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett // The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron //
Chloe Snow’s Diary: Confessions of a High School Disaster by Emma Chastain

The Adjustment by Suzanne Young // What to Say Next by Julie Buxbaum // My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella // Once Upon a Wine by Beth Kendrick // Kissing Max Holden by Katy Uppermann

Hello, Sunshine by Leila Howland // Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han //
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid // The Best Man by Kristan Higgins //
Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Charlotte Butterfield

In Your Dreams by Kristan Higgins // One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus // The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin // Turtles All The Way Down by John Green // The Fifth Letter by Nicola Moriarty

  1. It is obviously SO necessary to do honorable mentions, there are just TOO MANY amazing books read in 2017!! The Hate U Give is one of the books I should have read this year but still haven’t. However, I haven’t heard a single soul not LOVING it, and I have no doubt that I should read it and enjoy as well. I love the spotlight it’s been getting, and all of the themes it touches upon interest me a lot. I shouldn’t postpone it anymore! IT IS GETTING DONE!
This is literally the best list because I am DYING to read most of the books, and the rest I have ALREADY read and loved! You have no idea how happy it makes me to see that you also loved What I Lost too. That book was so good and so well researched, but not nearly enough people have read it as they should have. AMAZING post! I’m flailing.
P.S. Your blog is so gorgeous!!!!

  2. The Hate U Give was such a powerful book for me this year. My life experiences have been vastly different. Think small town MidWest USA, population 4,000 and one minority family. It left very little chance of exposure to anything. Loved it and can’t wait to read her next book coming out this year.

Kristan Higgins is an absolute favorite author of mine and the only author I’ve attended a signing for (outside of ALA). I’m very excited that two of her books made your list.

It looks like you had an absolutely fantastic 2017 in reading. I hope 2018 is just as good for you!
