Priority 2023 Reads & Exciting Releases for the Rest of the Year

Posted August 14, 2023 / Book Lists, Features, TBR Lists / 0 Comments

I know I’m going to get to the end of the year and have a ton of books left on my list to read but hopefully this guides me a little bit! I always make anticipated release lists or TBRs each month/season, but I’ve been fresh out of blog post ideas lately and this seemed like a good option to share! I also made the decision to not include any holiday books or cookbooks on here just for the sake of not adding one million books lol.

Already Out & Priority

2023 Releases

All That’s Left to Say by Lord // I’ve been a huge fan of hers for years and am always anxiously awaiting her next book. This one sounds like a contemporary/mystery and I’m excited for it.

Business or Pleasure by Solomon // Another author I adore and can’t wait to read! I’m shocked I didn’t read this earlier in the year actually.

None of This is True by Jewell // This has gotten super high ratings so far and I made sure to include it in my BOTM box! I read and liked one of her other books but hopefully this segues into more of her backlist as well.

Wrong Place, Wrong Time by McAllister // McAllister’s debut is one of my favorite thrillers so I have super high expectations for this one! Also snagged it for my BOTM selection.

One of Us is Back by McManus // My favorite YA mystery/thriller author! Really excited to get back into the Bayview world. I’m currently #1 on the hold list from the library for this one.

Their Vicious Games by Wellington // The first new-to-me author on this list! I’ve been fascinated by this title and synopsis for months now and requested it from the library as well.

Did You Hear About Kitty Carr? by Paul, Yellowface by Kuang, and Romantic Comedy by Sittenfeld // Okay all three of these are lumped together because I keep STARING at them in my up-next shelf on Goodreads. I’ve been putting them off for a few months now for unknown reasons. Somewhat due to reviews and somewhat because they’re highly anticipated so I’m nervous to read them.

The Fairy Bargains of Prospect Hill by Miller // I actually requested this in three different formats from the library lol and I’ve been suspending my holds for weeks now! I just am not super in the mood to read another fantasy right now before I finish the TOG series.

My Murder by Williams // This is another super anticipated read for me and yet I keep putting it off too.

You, with a View by Joyce // I kept seeing amazing reviews for this contemporary romance and love the cover! I decided to request it on Libby and my copy came way quicker than I thought. I have it on my Kindle right now and should be reading it by the end of August.

Hell Bent by Bardugo // I read NINTH HOUSE earlier this year and was pretty convinced I read the sequel soonafter! I’m nervous about it. I think I have it as an audiobook and hardcover so I’ll certainly be reading it this fall.

The Reunion by Frick // I’ve had mixed thoughts on Frick’s books so far (usually 3-4 stars) but I keep picking them up. This one actually seems really promising – White Lotus meets The Cousins??

Same Time Next Summer by Monaghan // I knew I wanted to make this a priority this summer but I’ve also been putting it off for no reason. I definitely want to get to it before Labor Day at this point lol.

Backlist Titles

Kingdom of Ash by SJM // Yes this shouldn’t be here but here I go delaying the inevitable again! I know I will be finishing this within the next month (I keep saying this). My plan is to start it once all of my ARCs for ARC August are complete.

Tide and Punishment by Baker // I’ve been really enjoying the Seaside Cafe Mystery series and this is the third title. I hope to just keep working my way through them! This takes place at Christmas time so there’s a decent chance I hold off on this until early November.

Once Upon a Broken Heart by Garber // I’ve put off this series because I’ve heard the cliffhangers are insane. I bought the first two and preordered the third, so my plan is to read all three in a row when the final book comes out!

The Naturals by JLB // Another series I hope to just read all in a row this year! I was thinking of doing it in July but then got sidetracked, and now August is also sidetracked. I’m thinking this could happen in September or October.

Exciting & Upcoming

September and October

Suddenly a Murder by Munoz // This book has been on my must-read list for a while and I even preordered a copy. This is unheard of for me usually with authors I’ve never read before. I’m just SO excited for it.

Sister of the Bride by Morrill //  I’ve enjoyed her YA books and really am excited for this one. The cover is so cute. She went ahead and published it with an indie instead, so definitely want to read my egalley before it comes out.

Dreambound by Frey // This is a random one but the portal fantasy vibes were to strong to stop me from requesting it on Netgalley.

The Only Girl in Town by Condie // I am fascinated by this premise – similar to THE LAST ONE, a girl wakes up and everyone in town is gone. Can’t wait to see how Condie explains this one!

The Wake-Up Call by O’Leary // She’s a go-to, auto-read author these days. Enough said!

Midnight is the Darkest Hour by Winstead // I definitely need to keep going with Winstead’s books. I’ve read one mystery and one romance by her and both were wonderful. She has a couple of backlist titles within both genres as well, but this one sounds awesome.

The Graham Effect by Kennedy // I randomly went back to the Briar U world last month and loved it, so I’m even more excited for this spin-off series starring Garrett’s daughter.

November and December

Bookshops and Bonedust by Baldree and Twilight Falls by Black // I’m definitely one of those people who fell into the cozy reads this year! Both of these books (one fantasy, one mystery) are highly anticipated November releases for me.

Raiders of the Lost Heart by Segura // Idk why but this cover and concept have been stuck in my head all year. I really should just go ahead and preorder the damn book.

Iron Flame by Yarros // Okay I didn’t love FOURTH WING and the more I think about it, the LESS I like it… but I am still very much going to continue with this series. Sorry not sorry bout it.

Mom Com by Mather // I’ve enjoyed a lot of her books and this adult contemporary sounds super cute!
