2025 Challenges

I don’t think I announced my 2024 challenges like I have in year’s past, but I’m doing something a little different this year. I’ve abandoned the Popsugar Reading Challenge because it’s similar to the 52 Book Club and I think one challenge of that type is good enough. I preferred the prompts for 52BC this year. Anyways, here are my plans for 2025 reading challenges!

Buzzword Challenges

Booksandlala, my favorite booktube channel, always hosts these challenges and this is my first time joining in! She’s doing two this year – one book titles and one for book covers. You need to read a book with a certain word in its title or a certain item/theme on the cover. Kayla breaks this into monthly challenges but some people just try to read the 12 books throughout the year without intentionally reading them during that month.

I haven’t decided yet how I want to work on this challenge. I had a few ideas. I never completed my 24 in 24 but thought this could be a fun way to use the same idea for 2025 and try to figure out which books I “have” to read this year and make a set TBR to read one per month that applies to the prompts. I’m REALLY bad at challenges with set TBRs though… any time I’ve done a “must read” thing, it’s failed. In a perfect world that’s semi-realistic, I would like to read each book during the set month. In a more realistic world, I just complete all 24 prompts between both challenges by the end of the year. I would also love to double up where possible (ex: January’s cover has a pattern while the same book has “truth” in the title) to make it easier. I’m considering making a real TBR list of ideas for this at some point…

25 in 25

The basic idea for this challenge is to choose 25 books that you want to read in 2025… and then read them. Most people choose backlist books that they’ve been putting off or books on their physical TBR. For me, as you’ll see below, there are a mix of books.

I completely failed my 24 in 24 challenge so I was not planning to do it again this year… yet here I am! I thought i would make it slightly easier on myself by including more upcoming releases than last year. The top two rows are books from 2024 and earlier that I really want to read, should read, have old review copies for, or own physically. The third row starts to mix in some upcoming releases with a few already published books, then the bottom two rows are 2025 releases. I knew I needed some layups this year – some books I knew for a fact I would read. I didn’t do all of the same authors as last year though. For example, I didn’t include the new Abby Jimenez book because I know I’m reading that as my first book of the year and it would be too easy. I did try to include an anticipated sequel or two, a new release by a 2024 debut author that I loved, and other favorite authors.

The 52 Book Club

This is probably my third or fourth year doing the 52 Book Club! The goal is to read a book per week, obviously, but I usually don’t have it broken down that way. As I said in my intro, this premise is similar to the Popsugar challenge where the prompts are specific and kinda random so it’s a little annoying to do both of them.

I think without having to also focus on Popsugar, I would really love to complete this challenge! I am either picking 80 or 100 books as my goal for next year so I could easily read 52 books to apply in this challenge. Most of the prompts are kind of within my comfort zone, compared to year’s past as well.
