Top Ten Tuesdays #462: Goals

Bookish Goals for 2025

Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review.

I usually write a bookish goals and resolutions post but I didn’t this year. I feel like I never actually pay attention to these things throughout the year! I thought I would keep it simple and go over my basic goals and thoughts for my reading in 2025.

Reading Goal = 75 Books

Last year I squeaked out the 100 books I had set for my Goodreads goal. I ended up reading a lot of books under/around 200 pages like graphic novels and novellas in order to stay on pace. It was kind of a weird reading year where I didn’t love a lot of books and everything felt very mid. Knowing that I could easily read 6 books a month instead of 8-9, I decided to set my goal at 75 books. My secret back-of-mind goal is to actually read 100 books but we’ll see.

Challenges Simplified

I have historically signed up for a number of challenges and even tried to do the same thing again for 2025. Right before my challenge post went live, I decided to bow out of one and keep it even simpler. I’m doing the 52 Book Club, which I really enjoy, and the Buzzword challenges from Booksandlala. And, against my better judgment, I’m doing a 25 in 25. Overall though, I’m happy to take some stuff off my plate this year with the “serious” challenges.

25 in 25

I know I just talked about this but I do really hope to actually work on this in 2025. Last year had some books that were definite stretches for me so I made sure to include a healthier mix of 2025 releases and backlist books that I do know I genuinely want to read. Here are those books as a reminder:

Focus on Readathons

I love readathons and used to do Bout of Books every time it came around. I have a lot of fun readathons hosted by the folks I support on Patreon, Summerween and Winterween, and many more! I just want to enjoy more short-term reading challenges and readathons this year rather than year-long challenges that I lose interest in. I like the community aspect of readathons.

Find a Way to Read Physical TBR

I love to buy a book and then ignore it forever. I really do. My BOTM read vs. unread ratio is kind of terrible. I enjoy having a library and collection of books to look at but I seriously need to find a way to read more books off of my physical TBR. I don’t want to wrap them up and draw numbers or anything but I should do a TBR game or something to get myself motivated to read the books I own.

Read More Fantasy

I feel like I say this every year but I really need to get going on the fantasy books on my TBR. I should make some kind of fantasy-related TBR post to remind myself of what I need to read. I really enjoy fantasy but always get nervous it’ll take me a long time to read, but that’s one reason I reduced my reading goal this year – I can take more time with books and not feel behind. So, time to take advantage!

Enjoy Book Club

I joined a mystery/thriller book club hosted by a local bakery and have really enjoyed it. I like the people in the club, the free cookies, and the camaraderie of a traditional book club! Our last book was definitely not for me but I’m glad I read it to stretch my reading a little bit. I also helped to found a spinoff of the Silent Book Club movement last year and am excited to keep up with it in 2025.

  1. I have got caught up in many reading challenges for 2025. Mostly, they overlap with the 52 Book Club challenge. Still, I am wondering if I will regret it…. I think you are wise to make your challenges more minimal.
