Organization Part One: My Book Bag

Inspired by my recent organizational acquisitions (and posts by Hannah), I wanted to share some information about how I keep myself organized – primarily for blogging and reading, but also a little about my personal organization, too. Part One: What’s Inside My Book Bag I carry around a tote bag full of bookish things. No, not everywhere I go… but pretty much. I bring it with me to work every day. I never know when I’ll have a free second to read or will need to write something down. It’d be awful to get struck with inspiration and not have my blog notebook on hand, right? Right. So, my organization series on the blog will kick off with me showing the basics of what’s inside my book bag and why I carry these items everywhere with me. The bag itself: I got my bag from The Strand bookstore in NYC. Chris and I went there back in October for his birthday and I knew that a tote bag was my #1 purchase there. I wish it wasn’t so crowded in the store that day, though, because I’ve come to realize I missed out on SO many other cute accessories. I love the pattern on this one with all of the books (and Chris likes the cats). I added a couple of bookish pins to it. One came from a previous swap partner and the other came from pre-ordering The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord! I do indeed […]

Bookmark Lit Bulletin – February 2015

The Bookmark Lit Bulletin is a monthly feature where I look back on everything I did and everything I plan to do next. I’ll also be updating my challenge progress here each month and linking up wherever I need to. This month’s bulletin is taking place of what would usually be a Five on Friday post. My life isn’t the most eventful, so it’d be overkill to have those posts two days in a row 😉  SNOW DAYS. So many snow days. I actually didn’t have a full week of work in February until this past week, between all of the snow days and the holiday. It was glorious. Working from home for me is a VERY loose term, which is nice… I spent a lot of time jerking around, watching TV, and reading. We did a good job of hanging out with some friends this month, which happens kind of rarely for us. We had my friend’s birthday trip to Foxwoods at the beginning of the month, a SuperBowl party with Chris’s friends, and a surprise party for another friend a week ago. It’s nice to get out of the apartment sometimes and see people other than each other. Valentine’s Day weekend was so much fun. Chris and I went to Providence that day, right as the snow was starting, to join up with another couple I went to college with. The four of us love hanging out and have a lot of fun together, so we figured we’d […]

Book Buddies Review: Just One Day

Book Buddies Review: Just One Day

Book Buddies is a discussion-style review that takes place with one of my two buddies. (Learn more and see past reviews here) We both read the book and then have a private discussion about it. We post our discussion as a review on the last Wednesday of each month. You’ll be able to see our similar/different opinions on the overall book, characters, writing style, etc. – just like a regular review. The first half our discussion will take place right here, and the second half will be on Cristina’s blog! (Link at the bottom) What made you initially add this one to your TBR and what were you expecting from it? Did it meet your expectations? Lauren: I read If I Stay and Where She Went by Gayle Forman and was really captivated by her writing style. I liked the second book in the duology better than the first, but regardless enjoyed her style. I was honestly not THAT interested in Just One Day when I initially heard of it, but there were so many bloggers who said it was pretty life-changing. I ended up asking for it for Christmas and my dad came through. I was expecting the same beautiful writing as I’ve previously experienced from Gayle, but wasn’t sure of much else! She seems to write a lot of different kinds of stories, so it’s hard to draw parallels between all of her work. Overall this book completely exceeded any expectations I did have. I couldn’t believe how swept up I was in the […]

Five on Fridays #13

Five on Fridays #13

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. We went to Foxwoods Casino for my friend’s birthday earlier this month, and it was so much fun! We stayed at a hotel down the road that had a shuttle for the casino. Our plan was to go bowling at the “high end” bowling alley, then go to a club in the casino. There weren’t any lanes for the alley so we hung around the bar section of the bowling place and played pool for a while. Some people went off to the club for a little bit while the rest of us hung there. We ended up getting a lane and bowling for the rest of the night. It was kind of expensive, but definitely more fun (in my opinion) than going to a club. I love seeing my college friends and wish it happened more often. I’m still not completely over how generous this community is when it comes to…well, everything – but loaning ARCs especially. I tweeted out that I was looking to borrow A Court of Thorns and Roses. Within minutes, I had two offers! I’m just so grateful to people who make me feel welcomed and loved. Thanks so much to Andi, for this one in particular! I have a few more ARCs of other books that Brittany is lending me, that should be […]

Inside and Out #1: Lauren from Bookmark Lit

A new feature to admire pretty book covers and bookmarks, shared by YOU! Welcome to INSIDE AND OUT. This feature will include two of my absolute favorite book-related things: bookmarks (inside) and book covers (out)! I’ve invited guest posters to share their favorite book covers and bookmarks here on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. I’ll be kicking off the feature today with my own favorites! (There is still plenty of time to sign up – see the form at the bottom of the post and join in the fun!) Lauren from Bookmark Lit Twitter: @bookmarklit  |  Instagram: @bookmark_lit Tell me a little about yourself: Well obviously you already know quite a bit about me, since this is my blog and all. But, my name is Lauren and I run Bookmark Lit! I obviously love reading and mostly fill my free time with doing that. When I’m not reading (or sometimes while I’m reading, depending on what teams are playing), I love watching football. The Carolina Panthers are my team and it’s my dream to move to Charlotte, NC. You genuinely don’t want to be around me when they’re playing, win or lose. I honestly don’t have many other hobbies but I do like watching movies, binge-watching Netflix, going out to eat, and becoming obsessed with things for a few months and then losing interest. I’d love to pick up some crafty hobbies but I’m so lazy. Talk about your blog (what you blog about/kinds of books, features, etc.): I […]

Bookmark Lit Bulletin – January 2015

The Bookmark Lit Bulletin is a monthly feature where I look back on everything I did and everything I plan to do next. I’ll also be updating my challenge progress here each month and linking up wherever I need to. Living in a fort for two weeks – As you may know from a previous post on here, Chris and I built a blanket fort in our living room. We figured we’d keep it up for about a week… and ended up living in it for two weeks. Honestly, we probably could have gone even longer, but we went skiiing one weekend and just had to sit on the couch afterwards. (Laying on the floor = not good for a sore body) Blizzard Juno – This week we had a bit of a blizzard. No big deal. I think our area got maybe a 15-20 inches of snow. I worked on Monday but it started snowing part of the way through the day, and luckily my boss said that we could work from home the next day. She’s pretty famous for making us come in during bad weather, even though most of our work can be done from home. Anyways, they ended up shutting down roads and not allowing people to drive anyway! The wind was even more intense than the snow, though! Luckily that meant that Chris’s car had snow surrounding it, but not a lot that needed to be cleared on the top. It only took us about 10 minutes […]

About

Hello there! Welcome to Bookmark Lit. My name is Lauren and it’s only me here at Bookmark Lit. (Before you ask, this is a play on the phrase “bookmark it” and lit = literature, okay? I came up with this name and it stuck.) This is where I share a lot about me and even more about books. I graduated from business school in 2013, picked up reading again after having some “dark ages” during college, and started this blog up to talk books! I wish I had a dollar for every failed blog/website I tried to make over the years. No topic has ever really stuck for me, for some reason. Reading has been something I can always count on. I should have thought of this kind of blog ages ago! Either way, Bookmark Lit started up in July 2014 and has been going strong ever since. I truly can’t believe I’ve kept up with blogging (or any hobby in general) for this many years. I have a short attention span, hobby or sport-wise, so this is a Big Deal, okay?? I went to school for marketing and had minors in literary & cultural studies and sociology. I work at a small recruiting firm where I handle marketing (social media, website, etc.), recruiting, account management, and daily operations. We’ve since partnered with a larger consulting company so my role has continued to expand, which I’m super grateful for. I love my job and my coworkers so much! I’ve always […]
