Five on Fridays [12]

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. I’ll generally be posting these biweekly and linking up with Friday Favorites (hosted by A Little Bit of Everything, Grace and Love, and Momfessionals). Previous posts can be found here! Inauguration I’m peeved I missed Kamala’s swearing in because I was bringing the dog out but at least I got to see Biden’s (and watch hers later). Man, what a collective sigh of relief we all had on Wednesday. It was just so nice to go to sleep without wondering if the president was going to piss off someone overnight or incite another riot. Just Finished: Night Stalker I’m trying to find that perfect balance between reading and TV watching. I made a nice morning routine where I can do both before I start working for the day! Depending on what my work day looks like too, I’ll pop something on in the background. I watched Night Stalker this week. It was pretty interesting – I’ve been meaning to watch more true crime things because I’m super behind. I knew a lot about Richard Ramirez already but it was still cool to see more details about the case, especially with the awesome ending to his story (you’ll know what I mean if you’re familiar with the case – I can’t figure out how to phrase it otherwise haha) […]

It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. I’ll generally be posting these biweekly and linking up with Friday Favorites (hosted by A Little Bit of Everything, Grace and Love, and Momfessionals). Previous posts can be found here! Near Year, New Motivation, New Nutritionist I was thinking a lot about New Years and resolutions. I’ve always said that I think it’s stupid to get THIS excited about a new year, when time basically isn’t real and it’s meaningless. 2020 sucked and flipping the calendar to 2021 doesn’t change anything without actual progress or work. Anyways, I’ve simultaneously (like everyone else) used this time to plan new goals and set intentions for the next year. January is such a motivating month for me and I don’t feel bad if/when I fall off the wagon in February. I think because time REALLY doesn’t exist between Christmas and New Years, we all fall out of routines and are so desperate to get back into the swing of things – that’s why January is a great time to start over and freshen everything up! That’s what I think anyways 😉 No major resolutions here except to keep working on my health and nutrition. I want to eat better overall, get into intuitive eating instead of tracking, and become better at working out. I’m trying to focus on cookbooks and recipes […]

It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. I’ll generally be posting these biweekly and linking up with Friday Favorites (hosted by A Little Bit of Everything, Grace and Love, and Momfessionals). Previous posts can be found here! Westworld After finishing Watchmen on HBO Max, we had determined we would start Westworld next. We’re only a few episodes in so far (I think five or six?) but we’re intrigued. The first few were interesting and kept our curiosity up but the following couple were somewhat boring. I’m really excited for things to start connecting – my friend told me around episode 7 things start clicking into place more. Emily in Paris I watched five of these in a row before work the other day and plan to finish it up before this post goes up (hopefully). I’ll admit, Emily is annoying as hell and the show paints a pretty one-dimensional picture of Paris, but it’s so addicting. It reminds me a lot of Passport to Paris with MK&A or all of their movies where they traveled somewhere and made me want to go ASAP as a kid. I won’t sit here and tell you the show is GOOD but it’s fun and addicting when I need it. House Organization I’m finally getting the “spring cleaning” shit done around the house… now that it’s fall. We started with organizing […]

Previous posts can be found here! Birthday Week and Cape Cod Camping My birthday was on a Wednesday this year so I, as usual, took the day off to relax alone haha. I got my nails done and hung out with the dog all day before getting an early dinner with my mom on the patio. My friends all met up at our favorite brewery in the evening. It was a nice day overall! The next day, we headed out to go camping. I used to go to Dennis in Cape Cod every summer of my childhood, but hadn’t been back in over 15 years! It was my favorite place on earth. We decided this summer to go camping at a campground in Dennis, a few minutes from the cottage and beach I frequented as a kid. It was so fun to relax, play disc golf, get our pups together, and check out the area again as an adult. We hope to go back next year if things are normal and stay in a cottage or something. WW and Meal Prep/Planning I was attempting to calorie count again but really lost steam for some […]

It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. I’ll generally be posting these biweekly and linking up with Friday Favorites (hosted by A Little Bit of Everything, Grace and Love, and Momfessionals). Previous posts can be found here! Aldi Finds I’ve been using Instacart still for grocery delivery and pickup. I’m not into being in enclosed places with a lot of people for an extended period of time, so most of my in-person shopping is to Petco or Home Depot – quick spots where the pup can come too. There’s an Aldi in the next town over that I still haven’t been inside, but I’m loving their delivery or pickup. I’m genuinely addicted to their Mexicali dip with tortilla chips. Chris and I usually eat the whole container in one snacking session. I’m also loving the Street Corn dip but it was sold out last time. There are lots of other great inexpensive food items and dupes from Aldi. Spin Bike I went ahead and followed the at-home workout trend… a million months into quarantine lol. I have no interest in going back to my gym for a few reasons. First, there are too many people for me to feel good about going in there. Second, it’s near my office (aka 30 minutes from my house) and not worth the trip. I’m hoping to get more […]

It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. I’ll generally be posting these biweekly and linking up with Friday Favorites (hosted by A Little Bit of Everything, Grace and Love, and Momfessionals). Previous posts can be found here! The Tiger King Hope you’re in the mood for a TV-based FoF because man that’s all I have to share, basically. Like everyone else in the world, we watched The Tiger King on Netflix. WHAT A WILD RIDE. I don’t think I’ve ever watched anything – especially based on a true story – that has this many twists and turns and absurd characters. Everyone in the show is basically terrible and has some major issues going on, but I could not stop watching. We really enjoyed this experience, especially now that we can be hip to all the memes online about it 😉 Ozark I’m a huge fan of Jason Bateman but the premise for Ozark never fully interested me. With season three coming out and seeing a lot of people excited about it, we decided to take the plunge. We finished season one within a few days so we’ll probably just keep cranking through. It’s sort of slow but also really interesting? Some parts of the episodes are a little boring for us but we’re still enjoying it. Lots of interesting character work and again, Jason Bateman. […]

Previous posts can be found here! Air Fryer Instant Pot Lid We bought a small air fryer back in the summertime and really enjoyed using it, but I always felt that it was a bit too small for us to cook more food all at once. I randomly saw online somewhere last week that Instant Pot released an air fryer lid attachment that just turns your IP into an air fryer! It also has some of the same functions the Ninja Foodi has (my dad just got one of these for Christmas). You can broil, bake, roast, reheat, and dehydrate! We tested it ASAP when it came in by making crispy eggplant parm in it and it worked SO well. We gave our small air fryer to some friends (I spent only $30 on it so I wasn’t worried about selling it or anything) and were really happy to save cabinet space with this guy. So far, $80 well spent! AirPods and Case Since I started going to the gym recently, I decided to upgrade from my fake Airpods into some real ones. I just got sick of the terrible battery life and not […]

Previous posts can be found here! Health/Fitness – Gym and Apps I know I keep coming around and recommending random apps for ~healthy eating~ but yes I’m here to do it again. I go through these waves of “dieting” and I’m tired of that concept, honestly. I just want to be healthier overall and feel better. I got a gym membership recently, which I’ll get to, but want to get back to calorie counting on Lose It. While WW is a well-rounded system that helped me quite a bit, I found that I would not be eating enough calories each day and just feeling overall not great about my habits? I would drink a Diet Coke just because it was zero points, even though it’s not necessarily the healthier option. I would only have the plain nonfat Greek yogurt and never spend points on yogurt that I actually enjoy (even healthy ones!) with flavors. I always bought 99% fat free ground turkey for ALL recipes that required ground turkey or beef, even though it would compromise the flavor, because it was zero points. Same wit chicken breasts all the time (zero) even though thighs […]

Previous posts can be found here! Podcast: CounterClock It’s been 20 years since emergency responders found Denise Johnson inside of a burning home. An investigative journalist, Delia D’Ambra, revisits her small coastal hometown in North Carolina to dive deep into a 22-year-old cold case murder and arson that’s marred the image of where she grew up. This investigative series reveals new clues, never-before-heard interviews and tracks down potential suspects in the case. The only way to understand Denise Johnson’s story is to go move counterclockwise in time; to go backwards to the point her clock finally stopped. (CounterClock website) It’s no secret that I’m a true crime procast junkie and I’ve shared them randomly throughout the years. I actually have a roundup coming sometime soon to catch you up on all the ones I’ve enjoyed since my previous roundups back in 2017. Anyways, I heard CounterClock was coming because its produced by the Crime Junkie podcast group. The pod is hosted by someone else, who I enjoy, and the investigation into this cold case is essentially reopening in real time. It’s about a woman who was found dead (from stab wounds) in a burning […]

Previous posts can be found here! I did start my numbering over, since it’ll be a little different than my previous iterations… Podcasts: Motherhacker and Red Ball Motherhacker: This was one of those super unexpected podcast binges that happen to me (very rarely, lately)! I really enjoyed the Sandra podcast by Gimlet and had been wondering if any similar podcasts would be produced by them. Mission accomplished! I listened to the preview and first episode one morning before work, just out of curiosity, and then ended up listening to the entire show in one day. The episodes are short and super interesting. Basically, a mom starts getting robocalls and ends up getting scammed out of some money. Judging from the title, you might be able to guess what happens next. The final two episodes were wild and had unexpected twists, which was damn cool. Apple currently is putting the episodes out one-by-one, but you can listen to the entire season on Spotify right now. Red Ball: I’m a huge fan of the Crime Junkie podcast and, as a Patreon member, got access to the entire four-part Red Ball podcast this week! It was pretty intriguing and […]
