Five on Fridays [2]

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. I’ll generally be posting these biweekly and linking up with Friday Favorites (hosted by A Little Bit of Everything, Grace and Love, and Momfessionals). Previous posts can be found here! I did start my numbering over, since it’ll be a little different than my previous iterations… iTrackBites I’ve noticed that I’m not great at eating properly when I’m not tracking something. Yes, I am very tired of scanning foods or weighing things before I eat them, but I clearly need to do it for a while longer. I found that there’s a popular WW alternative called iTrackBites. The best part of this plan is that it costs a fraction of the price: it’s $35 for a year instead of over $20 per month for WW. There are multiple plans you can follow too – most of them are free! The two pro plans (Keto and Better Balance) are the only ones that require a subscription. The Better Balance plan is an EXACT dupe for the most recent WW Freestyle System. I think the Carb Conscious plan on there is reminiscent of the WW Points Plus program from a few years back. Anyways, this helps me understand why I’m hungry too – I realized I don’t have nearly enough protein in my life. You’ll see from the screenshots above […]

Previous posts can be found here! I did start my numbering over, since it’ll be a little different than my previous iterations… Engagement I spoke about this in my most recent Lauren Lately post, but I suppose it’s a big enough event to include here 😉 I won’t get into it too much since you may already know and I’m too lazy but basically picture the Monica/Chandler proposal from Friends (minus the Richard drama and the whole Monica-tried-to-propose-first thing of course), perfectly-timed Panthers-colored nails, and my favorite guy. Please don’t ask about wedding planning and dates and anything else because no thank you ? Big E The Big E is a huuuuge fair – which I weirdly spoke about in my latest Five on Friday post years ago?? – that comes to Springfield, MA each year and is supposed to represent all of the New England states. It’s for the majority of September, the traffic is terrible (I will never go on a weekend anymore), and is chock-full of basically just food and infomercial products. It’s amazing. We decided to go this week on Wednesday night after work with Chris’s sister and her husband. My […]

Five Things Friday | Football

I used to post a Five on Friday every once in a while, but then my Lauren Lately wrap-ups (and more personal posts around here like On My List, Currently, lifestyle or makeup stuff, etc.) took over my need for a Five on Friday. They used to just share five things I was thinking about, doing, buying, loving, etc. Many of my bloggy friends have started similar themed posts on Fridays (Cristina has the wrap-up kind and Kay has more recommendations based on a weekly theme) and I decided to kind of bring it back a little in a different format. I’ll be sharing my thoughts or recommendations on a specific topic whenever I feel the need. This week I’m chatting about… football! The Panthers won last weekend by kicking a game-winning 63 YARD FIELD GOAL. The Panthers and the Giants somehow always find a way to make their games interesting, even though they have no real rivalry. The last time they played each other in 2015 was when this GIF of Cam Newton became popular: That year, OBJ and Josh Norman antagonized each other the entire game. The Panthers dominated most of it, then allowed the Giants to come back, and then squeaked by with a victory in the end. I’ll be honest, the Panthers love getting ahead, allowing a comeback, and then barely getting a win in the end… but it’s even more dramatized with the Giants for some reason. This game was no exception. There were terrible […]

Five on Fridays #23

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here!   Like everyone, I was obsessed with Serial recently and wish more than anything that Sarah Koenig could narrate everything with the Serial theme song in the background. Obsessed. Since then, I took a break from podcats (except for the occasional How Did This Get Made? or What Say You?). I started to get burned out of audiobooks so I began Criminal, which basically explores EVERY aspect of criminal behavior, trials, and unsolved or unresolved mysteries. Some episodes are fascinating and it offers a lot of diverse topics! I tend to like the legitimate criminal ones best, but some of the others are interesting too. I hope to also start Accused, which is about an unsolved murder like Serial was. We’ll see! Don’t worry, I have some non-murder/criminal-related ones coming up on the docket but I don’t want to get your hopes up without trying them first. I’ve been wanting to listen to more music since my audiobook burnout as well. When my friend visited last weekend, we listened to a throwback rap/hip-hop playlist I created based on music we loved in middle/high school and college. It was such a fun blast from the past! I had recently purchased Apple Music because I wanted to test out the new Frank Ocean CD and I’ve been enjoying it ever since. We’ll […]

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! Folks, this is a problem. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of Lularoe, but they have the literal most comfortable leggings on THE PLANET. Most people start out with just a nice black pair of leggings just to “see what the fuss is about”… and then slowly buy EVERYTHING. I don’t even want to tell you how many LLR items I currently own. I’m afraid to count and do all the math, to be honest. If you’re not sure what it is, basically it’s like the same thing as Mary Kay consultants, where people sell the clothing. All of the patterns are limited edition and only printed on 1,500-2,000 items. So basically if you love something, you need to jump on it! Hence the addiction. You can usually just shop through Facebook groups, online pop-up parties, and in-home parties. That being said… I’m having a Lularoe party on September 13th from 8-10 PM EST where I get free clothes if people buy things! Please seriously contact me if you’re interested in getting involved and I’ll find a way to send the invite your way! It has to be on Facebook. In any case, I love all my clothes lately and have spent sooo much money. I’m officially not allowed to buy any more Lula […]

Five on Fridays #21

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! So I drafted up one of these back in April and highlighted some of the makeup I was using. Of the million things I was going to show off, I currently only use THREE of the same makeup items. Holy shit, my makeup life has changed. I’ve been generally interested in watching more makeup videos (mostly reviews) because I’m sick of my skin getting oily partway through the day. I finally found a mix of skincare and makeup that really works for me. If you have oily skin, I’d recommend checking some of these things out. Let me know if you have questions!! I’m listing them below in the order in which I apply them! I’ve had a lot of planner girl fails over the past year. I always become gung-ho about something and then lose interest quickly. It’s happened with just about every type of planner so far. I always enjoyed my Day Designer from Target but ended up using it at work because of the hourly format. It also was too big to fit in my purse. (It’s light and thin but very tall and wide.) When I saw a much smaller hourly version (with an adorable flower design!!) at Target, I had to pick it up ASAP. It fits perfectly in my […]

Five on Fridays #20

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! As you know, I’m a big Lego fan with my boyfriend. We build our own stuff (called “MOCs” = my own creations) as well as collect minifigures and sets. We had seen rumors lately about a new minifigure series involving Disney characters, but it wasn’t confirmed for a long time. Well, as of the end of March, here it is! IT’S COMING FOR REAL AND I’M SO EXCITED! We’re excited to announce new #LEGO Minifigures The #Disney Series! Available starting May 2016! #LEGOMinifigures A photo posted by LEGO (@lego) on Mar 29, 2016 at 7:01am PDT I can see a lot of non-Lego collectors wanting to get their hands on these, I’m sure. I figured they would be fun to share and see what you guys think! Even if you’re not a Lego fan, would you buy these guys? Chris and I overall have some mixed feelings on the design, but are very happy they’re coming around. The biggest problem is that some of the figures here already exist as mini-dolls instead of minifigures, so it’s not consistent. But whatever, beggars can’t be choosers! 😉 In other general Lego news, we’re working on some new builds for our Lego Club. We’re planning a movie build for a competition for this month’s meeting (the 16th). Chris and […]

Five on Fridays #19

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! I’m aware that I’m probably the last person to listen to Serial. Chris started getting addicted to podcasts because he was sick of listening to books at work. (Rude, right?) I recommended Serial to him without ever having listened to it myself, just because of the hype. We’re both not thriller/murder mystery kinds of people. He was hesitant (and so was I) but he ended up loving it and demanding I start it right away. He also started season two but I’ve already decided not to bother with it. ANYWAYS, holy shiiiiiit we’ve been talking nonstop about this case for the past week. I binge-listened to Adnan’s case in a matter of a week. Just so addicting, it’s unreal. He also started Undisclosed, which is a podcast by some other people involved with the case. I guess it goes into more detail about everything (like, way more than Serial does) and can get pretty addicting too. I decided to start that one this week but only allow myself one episode per week. I can’t handle binge-listening to another podcast like I did. Did you listen to Serial?? Who do you think did it? I don’t think Adnan did but I’m also not entirely sure that Jay did either…I’ve referenced this a few times so […]

Five on Fridays #18

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! As usual, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve had anything worthy of sharing for Five on Friday. I’ve also been on a big blogging kick lately where I have so many posts and nowhere to put them. I don’t even give myself a chance to fit in a Five on Friday! I’m hoping to start combining review posts a little better to free up my weeks, because I have a lot of more fun ideas. ANYWAYS, here’s what’s been going on in my life!YES. The biggest reason for this post is that I had the pleasure of heading to ALA Midwinter up in Boston last weekend. Because I live only about an hour and a half away from the city, I was able to take a quick day trip to meet up with everyone there. It was a lot of fun. The day started at 9:00 when I got into the city and to the convention center. I met up with Brittany, Amy, and Alyssa and we killed it on the exhibit floor for about an hour and a half. We got so many books in a very short time period! We were hot and exhausted so we sat outside for a bit, then hung around in their hotel room. We went down […]

Five on Fridays #17

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! As of September 16th, Chris and I have been together for three years. It honestly feels like forever while also feeling like no time at all. Does that make sense? He and I definitely get caught up in the routine from time to time; we spend time together without actually spending ~time~ together. Sometimes we get into bed at night and I feel like I haven’t really talked with him, even though we were together all night. It’s nice to take some time to celebrate anniversaries and special occasions because it reminds you of how long you’ve been together, and not to take any of it for granted. We celebrated our anniversary by getting sushi at the restaurant we had dinner at for our very first date. Of course, if you asked me at that time if that dinner was a “date” in my mind, I would have said no! I didn’t exactly get the hint right away. Chris and I went to high school together and were friends there. He was even friends with my then-boyfriend and spent a good amount of time in our group. After graduating and being at college for three years, we hung out again because he was best friends with a girl I had been spending a lot of […]
