Top Ten Tuesdays #242: Childhood Faves

Posted July 2, 2019 / Top 10 Tuesdays, Weekly Memes / 3 Comments

Late Childhood Favorites

Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review.

This week’s topic is “childhood favorites.” I have quite a few of those, of course, but I thought it would be more fun to include some of my later-in-childhood favorites, like the series I read in middle school and high school. I talk about them from time to time on the blog, but a round-up is even better.

The Clique (The Clique, #1) Gossip Girl (Gossip Girl, #1) The It Girl (It Girl, #1)

The Clique series by Lisi Harrison

This was one of my earlier forays into mean rich girl books… but at least this one was slightly more age-appropriate. I remember reading this series and starting in a similar age range to the girls it featured. I did kind of grow out of the series later, but I would be super fascinated to go back and reread/finish this series up!

Gossip Girl + The It Girl series by Cecily von Ziegesar

I loved GG and hated what they did to the TV version (of course I still watched it all). I also highly enjoyed the spin-off series featuring Jenny as well. I feel like these are such classic books for people in my age range. Even my friends who aren’t really ~readers~ wanted to get their hands on these books.

Private (Private, #1) Privilege (Privilege, #1) ttyl (Internet Girls, #1)

Private + Privilege series by Kate Brian

Yes, I STILL need to finish these series off! These are a major part of my Nostalgia Project that I very much need to complete still. I need to reread and get a refresher for sure. The spin-off here was definitely not as great as the GG spin-off but it was kind of fascinating to be inside the head of a killer instead.

Internet Girls series by Lauren Myracle

I was so excited when this series came back with an updated, new installment a few years ago! It was nice to be back inside their lives and try to remember everything that happened before. These were such quick reads though; I probably should have just reread the first three beforehand…

Rhymes with Witches (Crestview Academy, #2) The A-List (A-List, #1) Secrets of My Hollywood Life (Secrets of My Hollywood Life, #1)

Rhymes with Witches by Lauren Myracle

Another series by Lauren Myracle… except I definitely didn’t know it was a series back when I read this book! I’d be very curious to read these now because there are some interesting elements I forgot about when I reread the synopsis recently. It’d be good to read the first book in the series too… whoops. (Not the best reviews for these books so who knows if I’ll ever actually do it.)

The A-List series by Zoey Dean

I LOVED rereading this series with Cristina back in 2017. It was so fun to blaze through these books and bring back all the nostalgic feels. These are not perfect books, by any means, but they definitely reflect their time. They’re incredibly engaging for rereading as well.

Secrets of my Hollywood Life series by Jen Calonita

And finally, yet another unfinished series from my youth. However, I can give myself some props for this one: I’ve reread a couple of these and just need to continue. I picked up all the books from the Book Barn a while back too so let’s hope I can commit to finishing this one up.

I’ve read Rhymes with Witches and its sequel (or prequel, really; anyway I liked it a lot better and recommend it), TTYL, and the first two Secrets of my Hollywood Life books, which I think are the best of this bunch.

Truly cannot believe how many Rich Girl series there were in this time period…
