Halloween Freebie:
Spooky, Mystery, Fantasy Books on my Instagram

Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review.

I’ve said this a bunch of times: I’m not a horror kind of gal. Spooky books can be fun but I certainly read them seasonally, and they’re never TOO scary. Last year I did a Halloween round-up for the TTT near the 31st, so feel free to check that out. I thought I’d keep it simple today and highlight all of the spooky, horror, mystery, and thriller books from my Instagram over the past year or so.

(1) Imaginary Friend

I kind of thought I would be able to finish this one by the end of the month but it was inadvertently put on hold. I still have all of my page markers to plan how to break up the reading, but I’m lacking the motivation to read this one. Nonetheless, probably the spookiest book from my Instagram page!

(2) The Darkest Part of the Forest

While this isn’t overly spooky, it’s definitely a woodsy fantasy with a lot of the fae world. I loved it again upon my second read for Faerieathon and couldn’t resist using these candles for a couple of pics, clearly! Thanks Chris for making our engagement work for bookstagram 😉

(3) The Diviners

I could have included all three books out in this series so far but I thought it would be a cop-out 😉 This is obviously the first book and I LOVED IT. All of them are just the right level of spooky paranormal historical fiction for me. Libba Bray is, as always, a queen.

(4) A Curse So Dark and Lonely

This is not necessarily scary but definitely a rich fantasy story. Honestly the cover is what makes me think this book would be a little bit creepy! I tend to lump fantasy books in with the Halloween season because they’re heavier and definitely meant for the fall.

(5) The Devouring Gray

Another kind of fantasy novel but definitely a little creepier!! I mean, look at this cover. It’s a bit of a contrast to my bright ass flowers on the porch from this summer but it was too nice out to pass up. Either way, enjoyed this one a lot and can’t wait to see what’s next.

(6) The Winter Sister

This book wasn’t overly creepy or even that good, but the cover is super haunting… especially once you read the book and understand what’s actually happening on the cover.

(7) Two Can Keep a Secret

I’ve been really enjoying McManus’s books so far and can’t wait for her next one to come out, especially because it’s a sequel to her other book that I loved. Anyways! Enjoyed this one from the library earlier this year (the audio was so good too).

(8) The Similars

This book was set at a creepy boarding school (I mean, it’s called DARKWOOD ACADEMY. Creepy as hell) and I loved it so much. I don’t want to spoil anything but this involves the ~similars~ or kind of copies of regular people.

(9) Jackaby

This series was definitely out of my comfort zone a bit because I don’t read a lot of historical fiction mystery/paranormal books, especially involving female characters written by a male author. *cough* Anyways, I don’t remember much about this series in hindsight, but I enjoyed it overall. Definitely a bit creepy too.

(10) There’s Someone Inside Your House

I read this because Stephanie Perkins wrote it, despite it being a horror-ish book. I really enjoyed it for the most part! This is from back in 2017 because clearly I don’t read a lot of spooky books… or I didn’t post them on my Instagram.
