Bout of Books 37 | Last Minute TBR & Reading Plans

It’s been a long time since I’ve participated in Bout of Books! When I was reminded it was kicking off this week (technically Monday), I decided to hop on board. I had read about 20% of Queen of Shadows that day so I made enough reading progress to feel good about joining late 😉 Here is more information about the readathon:

The Bout of Books readathon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It’s a weeklong readathon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 8th and runs through Sunday, May 14th in YOUR time zone. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are reading sprints, daily Discord questions, and exclusive Instagram challenges, but they’re all completely optional. For all Bout of Books 37 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

Reading & TBR Plans

This is a good week to get a lot of reading done for a few reasons. It’s playoff season for various sports we’ve been enjoying lately (basketball and hockey) – I don’t pay full attention to these because I’m not super invested, so I like to read during the games instead of scroll on my phone. I also plan to drive around a lot this week (primarily between heading to the office and errands one day and driving 2 hours roundtrip for an author event on Friday). That’ll be some good audiobook time! Chris will be out of town on Friday and Saturday for work so I will have time to listen to my books while cleaning out my closet and hopefully being productive around the house while he’s gone. All in all, I feel like there’s a really good chance I finish more than half of the books below. I *must* finish one of them for a blog tour on Monday too. One of the reasons I’m hoping to read a lot this week is because my tandem read of EoS and ToD will take up a LOT of time and energy in the second half of the month. (More on that below, but basically I want to stack the first half of the month with more books than usual so I can still finish with 9-10 books read!)

Ebooks, Egalleys, and/or Audiobooks

QUEEN OF SHADOWS // audiobook and ebook

I just started my reread of QoS this week. I finished books 1-3 in April and took a little break before diving into my final reread before starting the final 3 books I haven’t read yet! I plan to tandem read the next two books at the end of May and then finish off the series completely in June. I finished 20% of QoS on day one of the readathon and by the time this posts, I’m hoping to be a good portion through. I like alternating between the audiobook and ebook for fantasy because it helps me get through it faster!

THE BOYFRIEND CANDIDATE // blog tour egalley

I’m a big fan of Ashley Winstead and haven’t really gotten into her romances yet, so I’m excited to try this one! I am scheduled for a blog tour for this on Monday. I hope to finish of QoS and then work on this immediately afterwards so I can get the post up and scheduled for the tour. There’s a chance I read it later this week on my Kindle and just focus on the QoS audiobook if I feel like I need to get to it faster.

THE FOURTH WING // library ebook and audiobook

Ever add a book to your TBR purely because of hype and barely read the summary? That is fully what happened here. I even went so far as to request the ebook and audiobook from my library without investigating much further. Both holds managed to come in around the same time so my plan is to finish QoS and move into this fantasy world while I have both formats for the next 2 weeks. I don’t know if I’ll finish this book during Bout of Books (unless it’s super addicting) but my goal is to at least start them ASAP when I finish QoS so I can get back into the ToG series before the end of the month. I don’t like reading two fantasy books at the same time.

Physical Library Books

THE HOUSMAID’S SECRET
WHAT HAPPENED TO RUTHY RAMIREZ
WHAT STAYS BURIED

These are three library books I currently have checked out that I can (and should attempt to…) read during Bout of Books. I usually enjoy reading one physical book at the same time as a Kindle book just for the variety. I have a good feeling that the first and third books up there will be quick reads, either because it’s addicting OR a shorter middle grade (respectively). The middle book is one I’ve been really looking forward to but have seen mixed reviews, so not sure how quickly I’ll read it or if it’ll work for me. Definitely want to crank out 1-2 of these before the end of Bout of Books!
