Books with Fall Vibes (TBR and Read)

I’ve added a new Goodreads shelf called “fall vibes” when I noticed the recent trend of autumn-themed books. It kind of all started with THE PUMPKIN SPICE CAFE and exploded from there. I thought, now that we’re in September and my fall pumpkin-y decor is officially up, I would share some of the fall/back-to-school books I’ve read and the many that are on my TBR. I also found a cute roundup after writing this post on another blog, so check that one out for more!

On My TBR

A Season for Falling by O’Shaughnessy // This claims to be a Gilmore Girls-esque fall read, which I appreciate because I like the VIBE of GG but not the show itself lol. This takes place in Connecticut, which is another win for me.

The Thoroughbreds by Cunningham/Hilderbrand // I enjoyed THE ACADEMY in a popcorn fiction kind of way. I love rich kids behaving badly so boarding school drama was very much up my alley in book one. The sequel is out this month and I’ve been resisting the urge to read it on my Kindle all summer. I knew it would hit harder in September when school starts (just like the book).

Can’t Help Falling in Love by Sullivan // This book wasn’t on my fall shelf until I browsed some Goodreads lists and saw it was already on my TBR. This is very much set in autumn based on the synopsis!

A Fall to Remember by Alexander // A small town with a Fall Harvest Festival? What more could a gal ask for. This one seems like a really fun series starter set in Half Moon Bay. I love a companion series like this, and hopefully it goes better than the Dream Harbor series did for me…

Something About September by McKay // I’m a big fan of this cover and the love for September. I feel like so many fall books are October-focused and I am a September falltime girl. This is set in Bramley Hollow, another cute small town, and is a “fall-inspired second-chance romance.” Sold.

Pumpkinheads by Rowell // I’ve had this on my TBR for a long time but never got around to reading it. I’ve never written a full book but the pumpkin patch setting (that this one has) is very much in line with the one time I’ve recently tried to write a book lol. I just love that vibe for a story.

Falling into You by Harrison // Emma Harrison is a pseudonym for my girl Kieran Scott, so this YA fall-themed romance immediately made it onto my TBR. I haven’t read quite as much YA recently so I don’t know how quickly I’ll get to this, but I’m intrigued at some point.

Falling Like Leaves by Wilson // I got a review copy of this and tried to read it last year but the text was too small in the PDF to actually read it. This is another YA autumn-themed rom-com with, of course, the Gilmore Girls comp. And of course there’s a fall festival too.

Trust Fall by Painter // I’m mostly basing this off the title and leaves on the cover, but this book does start at an NYC private school… the season must be right for this one. I love the rags-to-riches concept, NYC setting, etc… all the fun things.

The Cinnamon Spice Inn by  // I grabbed this on a whim at the bookstore the other day after writing this post, and ended up adding a few more fall books on here before it was set to publish! This sounds like a classic Hallmark movie: a city girl moves back to her hometown to save her childhood home (which is, of course, a quaint inn) and has an enemies-to-lovers romance with the town handyman.

Grim Tidings by Borison // The first book in this companion series was Christmassy and apparently this one – starring a hot grim reaper – is more Halloween or fall vibes. Reallllly looking forward to it.

Bonfire & Bliss Bookstore by Nicole // I haven’t read the first book in this companion series but the autumn leaves on this cover (and the fact that it’s about a bookstore) make me want to read it. It looks so cute!

Recently Read

The Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Gilmore // I was not a huge fan of this one compared to other people but it’s worth mentioning as the book that seemingly started an autumn romance movement. I liked the following book even less and DNFed it, so this series is on permanent hold for me.

If It Makes You Happy by Olivia // I maintain that this is the perfect book to read in November. It perfectly bridges the gap between autumn/Halloween and winter/Christmas, so November is a lovely time to give it a go. Really loved this one unexpectedly. Her second book is more wintery according to reviews, so I didn’t include it above.

The Academy by Cunningham/Hilderbrand // I already talked about this above but I really enjoyed this back-to-school focused read last year and can’t wait to dive into the juicy sequel.
