Top Ten Tuesdays #31: Favorites

All-Time Favorites in the Last 3 Years Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Well, this was surprisingly easy (even though I cheated with 16 instead of 10)! My favorites shelf on Goodreads actually has less than 40 titles on it, and most of them are from within the last year. I didn’t read much previously (because of college) but I definitely added a looot more to my list of favorites since 2014.   Goodreads:  Dissonance / A Court of Thorns and Roses / The Distance Between Us / Catching Jordan / On the Fence / Just One Day / Meant to Be / The DUFF / The Start of Me and You / Princess of Thorns / Second Chance Summer / To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before / Breathe Annie Breathe / Anna and the French Kiss / Since You’ve Been Gone / Open Road Summer

Top Ten Tuesdays #30: Heroines

Favorite Book Heroines Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. I’m not sure of the exact definition of heroine when it comes to books, but I’m going to loosely use it as “main female character.”  I don’t read a lot of books where there’s a badass heroine kicking butt… because most books I like are contemporaries. There are some great heroines in fantasy books so you can be sure I didn’t leave any of them out 😉   Em was one of the first characters that came to mind for this one. The character development in this story was just like no other. I don’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t read it, but I couldn’t believe how much Em matured and grew up compared to her former self. Del was a character who was probably hit or miss for some people, because she was kind of reckless, but I liked that about her! She did whatever she wanted and really didn’t let anything or anyone stand in her way. Sure, it caused some problems, but it still was entertaining to read. Hazel was pretty damn fearless in her countless interactions with fae people. She definitely didn’t obey the rules by any means, but she […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #29: Bookish Problems

Book-Related Problems I Have Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. 1. I’ll never be able to READ ALL THE BOOKS! Every week there are new books that get released. On top of that, add in classics and backlist books I haven’t gotten to yet. There will never be enough time in my life to read all the books I want to read! I know everyone here probably has that same issue, but it’s a very sad feeling. This can also relate to the fact that I never know what to read next because I’m too excited about too many books. Do I read the one I’ve been really looking forward to? Do I read the one I just bought? Do I read the new release? Do I read the ARC? I don’t knooooow. I’ll never know! 2. I buy books on release day because I’m so excited… then let them sit on my shelf for weeks/months/years. You know how it goes – you’re all excited about a book release and you run to the store/internet to buy it that day…. and then it sits on your shelves for god-knows-how-long. This happens to me TOO MUCH. Day before payday and I have $20 in my checking […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #28: Romance

How do I like my romance? Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. This week’s topic is top ten things I like and dislike when it comes to romance in books. This is a great topic that relates to a topic I’ve covered on here in the past: my favorite and least favorite tropes that appear in YA books. Here’s my list for this week! Likes I’m a big fan of some of the usual tropes in romance. The classic best-friends-turned-lovers saga is one I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of. This is probably because I totally used to think I was going to marry the boy next door. Granted that definitely isn’t going to happen (and I don’t have any desire anymore – he turned into kind of a jerk), but it’s still fun to read about the stories where it does. This is especially sweet when it’s a childhood best friend who comes back into your life after being away for a long time. I also love the slow-burn romances – the ones where it takes a while for the character to even realize it’s happening. It just feels so much more real than love that happens too quickly. (You can see the opposite situation […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #27: Long Overdue

Books I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Read… Because Everyone Else Has! Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make LISTS of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. This week’s topics are books you can’t believe you haven’t read yet, like certain YA staples in a specific genre. There are so many books and series out there that I feel like EVERYONE has read. I feel a little out of the loop! There are staples within the YA genre that everyone also has a strong feeling about (sometimes good, sometimes bad!). Many of these I plan to read at some point – someday – but some of them I’m not sure if I’ll ever bother with. I decided to keep the genre wide open because there are so many different ones across different genres that I need to get going on. (And yes, there are a couple more than ten. Not sorry!) Which of these have you read? Are you a black sheep like me and haven’t read any? Which live up to the hype and which don’t? Jellicoe Road / The Selection / Throne of Glass / City of Bones / Vampire Academy / Divergent / Cinder / Uglies / Percy Jackson / Delirium / Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour / Obsidian

Top Ten Tuesdays #26: Book Club

Reading List for my YA Book Club Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make LISTS of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. I WANT A BOOK CLUB. I joined one last year and ended up attending one meeting. They just weren’t reading books I’d want to read. I get that it could expand my horizons and all that crap, but I just want to read Young Adult at this point in my life! I’ve debated starting one up, but don’t know if there’d be any interest out there. (Hey, anyone reading this live in Connecticut? Lmk) I think I’d like to focus on new books for my book club, so here’s the schedule for my YA New Releases Book Club!

Top Ten Tuesdays #25: Books that Evoked Strong Feelings (Freebie)

Top Ten Tuesdays #25: Books that Evoked Strong Feelings (Freebie)

FREEBIE: Books I Have Very Strong Feelings About Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make LISTS of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Because I am not the most creative at coming up with my own things (you can tell this by the lack of lists I’ve been posting on my blog in general), I browsed the Broke and Bookish site to see what some old topics for this were. Since my blog is newer, I’ve missed out on many years of TTT’s. I chose the topic of “books I have very strong feelings about.” Two categories here are good feelings and books I enjoyed. The other two…not so much.

Top Ten Tuesdays #24: Meant to Read in 2014

Books I Meant to Read in 2014…and Didn’t Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make LISTS of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. OKAY so oddly enough, I prepared this post for last Friday, thinking it would be a neat little graphic to share for a discussion post… then I went on and found out it was the topic for this week’s TTT! The original topic is the top 10 books released in 2014 that I meant to read but didn’t. I tweaked it a little, so mine includes 14 books and may also include books from before 2014. Honestly too lazy to see when they were released! Sometimes I look at my TBR and wonder how it’s possible that I haven’t read a certain book yet. When it was first released or I first heard of it, I was the most eager person in the world to get my hands on it. Maybe I even bought it. There are some books that have been at the forefront of my mind for months. I’ve pined over them. I’ve whispered “I’ll read you next” when I pass it in my list or in a store. I’ve read countless reviews on it. And yet…. I still haven’t read it. Here are some of the books I cannot believe […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #23: 2015 Debuts

Most Anticipated Debuts (2015) Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make LISTS of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. I’m pretty bad at figuring out and/or knowing off the top of my head if an author is a debut or not. I just don’t keep track of that stuff (yet) since my blog is so new. Everyone feels like a debut to me! Regardless, there are some that pop into mind immediately (um Red Queen) and some I needed to do a bit of investigating to remind myself that it was in fact a debut. Regardless, all of these have been on my TBR for quite a while and I’m very excited to get to them this year! The Night We Said Yes by Lauren Gibaldi: I like books that alternate between “then” and “now.” Definitely really excited for this one. Emancipated by M.G. Reyes: Kind of sounds like The Breakfast Club except all the kids are living in a house instead of Saturday detention. I’m down to give it a try. Last Year’s Mistake by Gina Ciocca: Another one with alternating chapters, this time between two people instead of two moments in time. Still down with it. Even When You Lie to Me by Jessica Alcott: Okay yes I’ve talked about how much I don’t care […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #22: Resolutions

Top Ten Bookish and Blogging Resolutions Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make LISTS of our top ten books based on that week’s prompt… and then we stalk other people’s answers to add a million books to our TBR. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. I was planning on including a post like this within the next day or two about my goals for 2015, so this is perfect! As everyone knows, I started blogging in July of 2014, so this coming year will be my first full year of blogging. I’ve signed up for a number of challenges, since it’s the first time I can participate in the year-long stuff, and plan on doing a lot of stuff in the coming year. Thanks everyone for your support in getting me started! Write more original discussion posts: These seem to get a lot of traffic on the blog and I love reading other people’s opinions. I need to start drafting a post the minute an idea pops into my head, because otherwise I forget all of my ideas when the time comes. Write more top 10 lists and recommendation lists: These are supposed to be a main feature on my blog but I rarely post them. The problem is that I didn’t really have a lot of books to base these lists on. I would find myself repeating the same ones over and over again. With the hefty […]
