The Love-A-Thon is hosted by the wonderful Alexa at Alexa Loves Books! You can learn all about what we’re doing at the previous link, but basically it’s a two day event to spread love and kindness to the book blogging community! It seems like something everyone needs right about now.
Introductory Questionnaire: Learn About Me!
What’s your name?
Lauren! I also go by Lumby (thanks to my boyfriend), L, Laur, Lee, Bean, and Beeps. Don’t ask. But really, most people just call me Lauren 😉
Where in the world are you blogging from?
I moved from one boring small town in Connecticut to another one, right after attending college in a small boring town in Rhode Island. What am I doing with my life??
How did you get into blogging in the first place?
I’ve started more blogs, online journals, and diaries than I could count. This one finally stuck when I realized I could blog about something I’ve always loved: reading. I go through brief phases where I’m obsessed with other things (beauty, clothing, etc.) and therefore those blogs never stick. I basically dreamt up with blog without realizing there was a whole community waiting for me. It’s been about eight months since I’ve started and honestly I’m surprised at the fact that I’ve stuck with it!
How did you come up with your blog name?
I spent literally a whole day googling book-related puns for my blog title. Somehow “bookmark it” randomly came to me as a book-related phrase, and I decided to make it more of a pun by changing IT to LIT. I’ve talked about possibly changing it in the past but just didn’t want to re-do my web presence.
What genre do you read and review the most on your blog?
I recently did an evaluation of this and determined that about half of my reviews so far have been YA contemporary, which makes sense – it IS my favorite genre. I have definitely been reviewing more diverse books so far in 2015 though, because of my recent fantasy addiction. I’m hoping to expand more into fantasy, new adult, and some adult contemporary soon.
What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews?
I like to post discussions as much as I can! I’ve tried to increase those as much as possible, as long as inspiration strikes. I also follow a few memes, although the only one I regularly post is Top Ten Tuesday. I also have monthly wrap-ups called the Bookmark Lit Bulletin and monthly joint reviews with my Book Buddies. I also started a feature where people can share their favorite book covers and bookmarks called Inside and Out! Sign-ups are always open 😉
Best blogging experience so far?
I think so far my best experience has been increasing the amount of blogger friends that I have. There are quite a few “big” blogs I admired when I first started, and it feels good knowing that I could now count those people as friends who actually talk with me on Twitter or comment on the blog. I love this community!
Favorite thing about the blogging community?
One of my favorite things that I think truly represents the community is how people immediately reacted when I asked people for book recommendations for my boyfriend. He’s recently started listening to audiobooks and enjoys fantasy or sci-fi books with little to no romance. Everyone was so quick to recommend SO MANY series/books for him to get going on. People tagged their friends, created conversation, and gave us so many ideas. I appreciated that moment so much because otherwise he would still be listening to the LOTR series over and over…
Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2015!
EEK! This is not an easy question. You can see my TTT posts (debuts / all) about this, but I can tell you I LOVED The Start of Me and You, which was my most anticipated read for this year. I’m also going to leave off ACOTAR because I already read it and it was fantastic!! Here are my top five that I haven’t already read, in no particular order:
- Resonance (Dissonance #2) by Erica O’Rourke
- PS I Still Love You (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before #2) by Jenny Han
- Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen
- Things We Know by Heart by Jessi Kirby
- The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West
What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?
This is tough! I feel like I haven’t read a lot of underrated books lately, but my go-to pick for this one is usually Class of ’98 by AL Player. I pick this one because it’s a fairly random adult contemporary involving some cute time travel and romance. Really enjoyed it and most people definitely haven’t heard of it!
Which book boy or girl would be your book BFF?
Okay so my number one book BFF is probably Aspen and her group of friends from Aspen by Rebekah Crane. They were so funny and had the best inside jokes with each other. My book boyfriends include Matt Finch and Frank Porter. More recently, I have to add another Emery Lord boy to my list: Max from The Start of Me and You! (You can see some more book BFFs on this TTT post, too!)
Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests?
Well, folks, this is a short list! My number one interest/hobby is watching football. The Panthers are my team and I would kill to live in Charlotte. (Someday!) Football is my entire life from August to January. The Superbowl is often my saddest day of the year, because that means it’s all over. Beyond football, my boyfriend and I collect Legos. It’s fun to collect different sets, put things together, and help him design his own things.
Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?
Hmmm, I usually love shopping for clothes and makeup – but only when I have the money for it! Old Navy was a serious addiction for me last year. I love that I know my sizes there and never have to try things on. Ulta has become another favorite; I like that they have a mix of high-end and cheap makeup, unlike Sephora. I do enjoy going to the Lego Store with Chris too!
At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song – and it’s your song. What song would be playing?
This is even more difficult! To be honest, my favorite songs are generally not ones that would be played at parties by a DJ. I love classic and southern rock. If I’m thinking of actual party songs, or songs where my friends would go “THIS IS YOUR SONG” it would have to be Take You Down by Chris Brown, Ignition (Remix) by R.Kelly, anything by G-Unit, or (oddly) Not Over You by Gavin Degraw. This post has a Spotify playlist of my all-time favorite songs.
Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.
I’m so bad with questions like this. I think I’d have to say that some of the parallel universe books I like would make awesome movies, like Pivot Point or Dissonance. I also think the Private series could make a great TV show, similar to Pretty Little Liars.
Hi Lauren…happy Love-a-Thon weekend! So glad I discovered your blog this year and it’s been a blast getting to know you. Hope you’re staying warm down there in CT!! {hugs}
Thank you <33 Same to you! CT is freeeezing but I know you're probably dealing with the same thing up there lol
P.S. I Still Love You is going to kill me. I just know it, but I cannot wait for it.
Stay warm. I know this weather has to break soon. 🙂
I know! I can’t deal with the cold and snow anymoreeee
Hello Lauren! Lego’s are a toy not many can grow out of! The possibilities are endless. 🙂 I hope you’re staying warm!
Hi Alyssa! Thanks for coming by <3 I'm trying to stay warm but it's hard when it's about zero degrees every day hahaha.
nice to meet you Lauren!! 😀
Happy love-a-thon! Nice to meet you too 🙂
Oh yesyesyes, Resonance! I haven’t seen that mentioned anywhere else today so that’s exciting… I’m very thrilled for it’s release too!
I think it’s fabulous you collect Legos. I have always liked them since I was a child, but only as an adult have I been looking for some sets to purchase! Pivot Point would be an amazing movie, as would Dissonance, I totally agree!!! I think Private sounds like it would be an awesome tv show, although I haven’t read the series I kind of know what it’s about and it seems like something I would really like!!!
WOO! Some Resonance love! Legos are fun, I highly recommend collecting again 🙂 We love it. I still have a few more books in the Private series to read, but overall I did enjoy it!
Hi Lauren! I’m glad to hear that you’ve been getting a lot of love from the book blogging community 🙂 I have an early copy of The Start of Me and You, and I am EXCITED to start that one. After reading Open Road Summer, I love Emery Lord so much.
Yes! Read it as soooon as possible. It’s so good!
Hi Lauren! I remember finding your blog a year or so ago, but I’m not sure how. All I remember reading was how big a fan you were of Friends and adding you to my blog feed right away. I also can’t wait for P.S. I Still Love You! And I’m also a huge contemp fan.
Haha yesss I love Friends more than anything..ever!
PS I Still Love You is hopefully going to be amazing. I really can’t wait.
Great post! My favorite genre is YA Contemporary, but I have been trying to diversify my reading a bit more this year. I have been reading a little fantasy, which I never have before. I attribute that to book blogging. I have found so many great recommendations.
Yes! That’s one of the best things about book blogging 😉
Hi Lauren! I love your site! It’s so pink 🙂 I’m also really looking forward to reading Jenny Han’s next book. I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen between Lara Jean and Peter!
Hi Kristin! YES I cannot WAIT for it.
I’m so excited for Saint Anything! I love Sarah Dessen.
FRANK PORTER AND MAX *SWOONS*
I know! Me too. And yesss those boys are the best.
