Books I Meant to Read In 2018 but Didn’t Get To
Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review.
I feel like my whole TBR could be put here. I am so bad about reading books I set out to read! I’m breaking this into a few shameful categories because I’m the worst.
2018 Review Copies
Soooo I went a little egalley-heavy in 2018. I hope to remedy this and stay on top of things but my mood reading is still very THERE for review copies. I request something I genuinely want to read (it was even on my TBR before seeing it on Netgalley!) and then I’m just straight-up not in the mood for it by the due date. I might read it later when I want to, but sometimes that doesn’t happen either. Here are eight review copies where this happened.
Valley Girls by Lemon | I kind of liked the first book I read by this author, but not fully – so I’m really not sure why I requested another book by her. Don’t get me wrong, my opinion could always change, but I just don’t think this book was logical for me to REQUEST.
All That I Can Fix by Chan and Chemistry Lessons by Goldstein | So these two suffered the same fate. I wasn’t exactly in the mood for them BEFORE the review date. They were both PDF copies I had to read in another app, and those often expire on the pub date. Whoops. So, in order to review this on Netgalley now, I’ll have to acquire finished copies… which I haven’t been in the mood for yet.
Fight or Flight by Young | I saw some early reviews roll in for this one and I wasn’t sure about reading it, so I’ve been putting it off. There are quite a few trusted friends who really liked it but there are some other negative reviews mixed in from other friends that gave me pause? Even some elements of good reviews made me second-guess it because I guess the male MC is kind of an alpha guy, which I loathe.
I Do Not Trust You by Burns/Metz | I was invited to read this from Netgalley/the publisher but for some reason the email was shifted into the “promotions” section and I missed it. The book had already been published when I downloaded it but I’m happy to have a copy to check out! Just haven’t gotten there yet.
The Adults by Hulse | I was going to read this one in November or early December because it involves the holiday season in one way or another. I never got to it because it just didn’t feel Christmassy enough to read in December and November was a bad reading month blur.
The Corner of Holly and Ivy by Mason | This is another victim of the holiday season but for a different reason. I thought I had the first book in this series for review but cannot find the ARC for the life of me. I obviously wanted to read the first book first, even though it’s a companion series, so I checked it out from the library…. and then never got to it. I prioritized some other holiday reads instead, so this will be bumped to next year.
Dance of Thieves by Pearson | I should never request fantasy books from Netgalley ever. I am so bad about reading them. To top it off, this is a spin-off series of a series I have yet to read. I’m never going to read this book!!! What is wrong with me?!
2018’s Anticipated Reads
I spoke about 2018’s anticipated reads (for the first half of the year, at least) and gave the happy update that I read almost all of them. The only three I didn’t read are below. I requested these from the library at one point but ended up not being in the mood once I had them. Some had mixed reviews, some were just laziness on my part.
I am the same way about fantasy and Netgalley. I request because pretty covers then I don’t read them. I don’t think you’d like Flight or Fight.
I need to read The Wedding Date too!
I just added The Wedding Date and Love and Other Train Wrecks to my Goodreads TBR! They both sound so good.
The Wedding Date is SO GOOD, hopefully you get to that soon! Fight or Flight honestly isn’t worth it. The male main character is awful, and there’s so many issues with the book that are kind of hard to let go.
I hope you have better luck with these books this year.
This is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
I still need to get to The Adults and Fight or Flight, myself. How freaking cute is the cover for Fight or Flight?! I swoon every time I see it. Ah! I hope you enjoy these titles when you’re able to read them all.
