Wednesday Wrap-Up #5 | WoW & WWW

Wednesday Wrap-Up #5 | WoW & WWW

I don’t like to do too many weekly memes on the blog and usually stick to TTT, but I thought it would be fun to occasionally post Wednesday memes I’m interested in. It won’t be weekly, but it’ll be fun to recap the previous week or so and talk about what books I have on the docket. It will be a combination of WWW Wednesdays and Waiting on Wednesdays (more details below!), as well as anything else I’d like to share.  I haven’t done one of these since 2017 and thought now would be a good time, since my reading is terrible and I have no reviews coming that soon. Waiting on…Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine and asks upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. I’m currently waiting impatiently for… Majesty by Katharine McGee Release Date: September 1st, 2020 Is America ready for its first queen? Power is intoxicating. Like first love, it can leave you breathless. Princess Beatrice was born with it. Princess Samantha was born with less. Some, like Nina Gonzalez, are pulled into it. And a few will claw their way in. Ahem, we’re looking at you Daphne Deighton. As America adjusts to the idea of a queen on the throne, Beatrice grapples with everything she lost when she gained the ultimate crown. Samantha is busy living up to her “party princess” persona…and maybe adding a party prince by her side. Nina is trying to avoid the palace–and Prince Jefferson–at all costs. And a dangerous secret threatens to undo […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #291: TBR

Nonfiction Books on Race and Fiction by Black Authors I Have on my TBR Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This post is supposed to be the books we added to our TBR and don’t remember why, but there are a few reasons I’m shifting to this topic today instead. I recently culled my TBR and moved things around a lot so there aren’t really any books on there I didn’t intentionally put on. So, instead I’ll talk about ten books I intentionally put on my TBR about race relations and how to be an antiracist/better ally, as well as some fiction books by Black authors on my TBR (either recently added or already on there). The past couple of weeks have been unlike any other (hell, the past few months have to, for different reasons). I’m so inspired by people out there protesting! I have a anxiety about large crowds (I barely even like concerts) so I haven’t gone myself, but I’ve donated as much as I can each day and signed more petitions than I can count. It’s important to recognize that Black Lives Matter. I also usually don’t link books because I’m incredibly lazy, but am linking to Goodreads today so […]

June TBR

June TBR

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. Last month’s progress and approach for June: Lol I read TWO books from my TBR for May. I spent most of my time reading two cookbooks, one graphic novel, and one coffee table book. The others were random picks that I was in the mood for at the time. I’ve decided to follow along with my reading in May and just read whatever comes to mind, but following specific categories (like I used to do). There is one book that I have to read for book club, below, and then I’ll discuss each of the bookish categories I hope to follow and read ten books in June. Must Read THE DECK OF OMENS has been on my TBR since it was released but I just haven’t gotten to it. We chose it for our virtual book club this month since we read the first book together recently. I will definitely be going back-and-forth with the physical copy I ordered and the audiobook. TBR Category Method for June Sometimes it works best for me to choose a bunch of categories and make it a goal to read a book that fits within that […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #290: Summer Vibes

Books that Give Off Summer Vibes Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I love a summery book, especially when reading on the porch or in the sand. I’m eager to put together my 2020 summertime TBR and almost did that here, but instead I thought I would follow the prompt specifically 😉 I’ve already read a book or two with perfect summer vibes! 2020 Summery Reads The three books above are all YA fiction – I didn’t see a whole lot of summery YA books coming out in 2020! But these three are definitely on my radar. SAY YES SUMMER is about exactly what you think: a girl says yes to things for the entire summer. MEET ME AT MIDNIGHT and JUST A BOY AND A GIRL AND A CANOE both take place during the summer and have great warm covers. BIG SUMMER (a woman invited to her ex-BFF’s summer wedding… as the maid of honor, when they haven’t spoken in years) and SUMMER DARLINGS (nannying gig on Martha’s Vineyard) are new to my TBR but both seem pretty great. I’m also excited that Forever Romance has two great titles coming in July, set in two of my favorite book settings […]

Bookmark Lit Bulletin | May 2020

This post was drafted and scheduled late last week, so I want to hop in now to address the fact that Black Lives Matter. I am fully in support of the protesting that’s been occurring over the past few days and think it’s imperative that we ALL fight for reform. We need major changes in this country immediately. The Bookmark Lit Bulletin wraps up the last month in reading and what was on the blog, as well as what’s coming up next. You can check out my book haul, books read, posts shared, challenge updates, etc. You can read past bulletins here. If you’re looking for more personal updates, you can check out my Lauren Lately feature; it highlights my life events and non-bookish fun from the previous 30 days. Lol if I thought April was bad, check out May. Yes, I managed to complete 9 books… but two were cookbooks, one was a small coffee table book, and another was a graphic novel. I just couldn’t focus on reading most of the time but I finished a few books in one sitting basically. Idk what’s going on anymore. I really wanted to finish a 10th book over the weekend but spent all of my time online following and supporting the protests instead of being able to focus on books.      9 books read in May 9 new books  •  0 rereads  •  0 DNF Pages read: 2,480  •   Average rating: 4.1 stars Sources: 7 for review, 1 gifted, 1 Book of the […]
