Wednesday Wrap-Up #3 | WoW & WWW

I don’t like to do too many weekly memes on the blog and usually stick to TTT, but I thought it would be fun to occasionally post Wednesday memes I’m interested in. It won’t be weekly, but it’ll be fun to recap the previous week or so and talk about what books I have on the docket. It will be a combination of WWW Wednesdays and Waiting on Wednesdays (more details below!), as well as anything else I’d like to share. Waiting on…Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine and asks upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. I’m currently waiting impatiently for… Blacklist by Alyson Noel Release Date: April 4th 2017 In the second book of the suspenseful Unrivaled trilogy from #1 New York Times bestselling author Alyson Noel, Layla, Aster and Tommy have to unearth Hollywood it-girl Madison Brooks’ secrets before one of them takes the fall for her disappearance and murder. Layla Harrison has finally found herself in the middle of a celebrity story worth reporting. Aster Amirpour’s name is in every tabloid—even if it isn’t the good kind of publicity she hoped for. Tommy Phillips is inches away from getting the girl of his dreams, which may be harder than scoring a VIP ticket to an Unrivaled nightclub. But Layla, Aster and Tommy never imagined it would be because they’re entangled in the disappearance of Madison Brooks—a story that’s blinded the world like a starlet blinded by the flash of a paparazzi camera. Now, Layla is receiving mysterious messages from an anonymous […]

Waiting on…Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine and asks upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. I’m currently waiting impatiently for… The Amateurs by Sara Shepard Release Date: November 1st 2016 As soon as Seneca Frazier sees the post on the Case Not Closed website about Helena Kelly, she’s hooked. Helena’s high-profile disappearance five years earlier is the one that originally got Seneca addicted to true crime. It’s the reason she’s a member of the site in the first place. So when Maddy Wright, her best friend from the CNC site, invites Seneca to spend spring break in Connecticut looking into the cold case, she immediately packs her bag. But the moment she steps off the train in trendy, glamorous Dexby, things begin to go wrong. Maddy is nothing like she expected, and Helena’s sister, Aerin Kelly, seems completely hostile and totally uninterested in helping with their murder investigation. But when Brett, another super user from the site, joins Seneca and Maddy in Dexby, Aerin starts to come around. The police must have missed something, […]

WWW Wednesdays #18

WWW Wednesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading, where we answer three questions each week: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What are you planning to read next? I’m still plugging along through The Scorch Trials. I’m not as enthused about it compared to The Maze Runner, but it’s still interesting enough. I feel like by the end of this series it’ll be more about the journey than the destination, but I still REALLY want to know what the fuck is going on. My goal is to finish the series by the end of the month; sometimes I think it would be better for me to just read the books instead of listen to them. Oh well. For my current read, I just started Biggest Flirts, in The Superlatives series. I’ve had the ARC for the second book, Perfect Couple, on my Kindle for months. I obviously wanted to read book one first. I’m enjoying it so far. I don’t like the trope of “I don’t need a boyfriend and will remain emotionally detached from boys until this one boy changes my mind,” but I’m hoping there will be a more unique take on the book based on the plot summary. We’ll see! Eeep I finally finished One Past Midnight and really liked it! It was definitely a unique take on the parallel life concept that I love so much. I feel like the book got started very quickly, which was nice, but I wished there […]

WWW Wednesdays #17

WWW Wednesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading, where we answer three questions each week: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What are you planning to read next? I started One Past Midnight the day before the Ho-Ho-Ho Holiday Readathon started, so I didn’t get much done before jumping into my holiday book. I was able to pick back up with it this morning. So far I’m really intrigued. This has been one of my highly anticipated reads this year because it involves some parallel life stuff in a unique way. I’m surprised at how quickly the plot is taking off; I expected there to me a lot more intro stuff. My current audiobook is The Scorch Trials, book two in The Maze Runner series. As usual, I’m constantly asking myself “what the fuck is going on?” about everything that happens. I have to suspend all of my beliefs when reading this book because it all just seems so crazy. Overall I’m really enjoying it though. I’m about a third of the way through and so far I like the first one better. Chris liked this one a lot, so I’m thinking it’s going to start getting wild again soon. Obviously I just finished The Maze Runner, considering I’m onto the second book now. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one because it seemed like not the kind of book I would like. The only dystopia books I’ve read so far was the Hunger Games trilogy, so it’s […]

WWW Wednesdays #16

WWW Wednesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading, where we answer three questions each week: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What are you planning to read next? I took a break from the Gallagher Girls reread (since I messed up my requests at the library) and finally started The Maze Runner! I just hit the 50% mark this morning and am really enjoying it so far. I like it because I have no clue what’s going on – just like the main character. He’s finally starting to get going with the actual maze running, so I’m excited to see what happens in the second half of the book. Chris and I are trying to see it on Tuesday so I’m hoping to do a little more listening than usual to finish it up soon. I just finished my previous book last night and haven’t technically started my next read (One Past Midnight) yet. I have it with me at work so hopefully I can get some done before the Ho-Ho-Ho Holiday Readathon starts tomorrow! I totally didn’t realize it was coming up that quickly. I’ve been looking forward to One Past Midnight for months and can’t believe I put it off for so long. I’m hoping to make some decent progress before I pause my reading. I finished the second Gallagher Girls book, Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy. Yet again, totally didn’t remember anything that happened in it! I’m excited to keep going […]

WWW Wednesdays #15

WWW Wednesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading, where we answer three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What are you planning to read next? I’m continuing my Gallagher Girls reread (in audiobook form) with Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy. I have only another half hour or so left and I’m so intrigued! I can’t believe I don’t remember anything about this series anymore! It’s a very good thing I decided to reread instead of just finishing the last books in the series. I first read the books when I was in middle school/high school, so it’s been quite a while! It’s kind of sparking an interest in me to reread books in general! I’ve been dying to possibly pick up A Great and Terrible Beauty series again. Anyways, the book I’m currently reading is White Hot Kiss – my first JLA book! I decided to pick it up on a whim. I went to B&N recently and read the first page of the book and was pretty intrigued. I’m halfway through and not sure how I feel so far. The story is VERY different, which is cool, but I’m a little confused. (Can anyone help me with this? The humans know that the wardens exist, but no one knows demons or other creatures exist? So, what do people think the wardens do? Seriously, if you know the answer, please tell me!) I finished the first Gallagher Girls book, I’d Tell You I […]

WWW Wednesdays #14

WWW Wednesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading, where we answer three questions: what are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? and what are you planning to read next? I’ve got quite a bit going on this week! I started my reread of the Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter. I’m actually listening to them all on audio and it’s been interesting so far. I LOVED this series; I initially read them when they first came out. I kept up with them for a few years but haven’t read the last two books. I figured a reread would be helpful to finish off the series. I NEVER reread book, so kudos to you Ally Carter for prompting me to do it! The one thing I dislike is the narrator’s voice.. holy shit she makes them sound like 11 year old girls. One of my Book Buddies and I are reading Salt & Storm for our October buddy review, but I can’t seem to get into it. She’s going to give it a try and let me know what she thinks; we may be switching it up. In the meantime I’m kind of pausing that reading. I started The Art of Wishing this morning since it’s due back to the library soon. It should be a quick read and it’s really fun so far. I’m excited to see where it goes! DAMN I didn’t realize how much I read this week until all of the covers were sitting […]

WWW Wednesdays #13

WWW Wednesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading, where we answer three questions: what are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? and what are you planning to read next? I just started Catching Jordan the other day and am already pretty far in. So far the characters are amazing. I LOVE Jordan and all of the boys on her team that seem to have her back no matter what. I can’t believe I haven’t read a book about football yet considering it’s my entire life during autumn. I’m still working on Poisoned Apples. Because it’s a book of poetry, I’m just kind of slowly reading through them. I’m listening to Rites of Passage on audio right now and I have extremely mixed feelings. I like that Sam is such a badass who doesn’t let anyone bring her down. I like the impending romance that’s happening. BUT – I absolutely can’t stand the hazing and misogyny. I know that it’s supposed to show their attitudes and how resilient Sam can be, but it’s just really hard for me to listen to. I’ve thought about stopping it quite a few times but I’m not one to DNF books. I know the hazing is only going to get worse, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to handle it, but I like that the romance will be coming into play soon and that she’s starting to figure out what’s really going on at the DMA. I’m interested enough in the […]

WWW Wednesdays #12

I am FINALLY, happily reading Dissonance by Erica O’Rourke. I’m glad to say that so far I’m about 50% in and it is certainly meeting/exceeding my expectations. The concept of multiple universes being created for every decision we make is absolutely fascinating to me. I’ve thought about this since I was a kid and can’t believe someone created a book about it. Her writing style is perfect and I’m so engrossed in what’s happening. I’m hoping to have this one done by the weekend. I don’t have a current audiobook since I just finished Big Little Lies (below) this morning.   I finished Trial By Fire by Josephine Angelini FINALLY (review). It was a great book and I wish it didn’t take me so long to read. I’m anxiously awaiting the sequel to this book because it left in a little cliffhanger. Not a shocking cliffhanger, but one that makes you NEED to see what happens next. A lot of the book focused more on world-building and setting the stage for the following books, but that really worked for me. Ask Again Later by Liz Czukas (review posting later today) was a really funny, light read that was exactly what I needed. I sat down and finished it within a few sittings over the course of two days. The characters were great and I LOVE dual decision books like this one. It definitely made it onto my favorites list! This morning I finished Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty, which I was expecting […]
